Great video Allen my combi losing pressure overnight, i pressurised to 2 bar isolated the boiler as per the video ( both pipes off) and turned off and it still lost 1 bar of pressure during the night so im assuming the problem is with the boiler ? And not the heating system!

Hi Allen. Fantastic video's delivered in a no nonsense and clear manner. I wish you were in my area because I would call you for help without hesitation. I have a 12 year old Worcester combi that is losing pressure. When the heating is on 2 it is near 3 bar on the pressure gauge. The boiler has been serviced but the engineer says that it needs a new expansion vessel. Unfortunately the job can't be done until after Christmas so I am just hoping that the boiler will last for another 4 weeks or so. The Worcesters look complicated...after watching your video's I wish we had a Baxi or something similar with a more accessible vessel. Anyway, many thanks for your hard work in providing valuable information in such an honest way...you are brilliant at what you do.

Great info! I've a 440 HiFlow that gradually drops pressure. Turns out, from the filling loop ball valve, so I've that to see to. Drops about 3/4 pint in 24hr in plastic pot, but as the unit's on the floor behind a cover, the drops normally evaporate off.

Your video covers all the usual causes of pressure drop , clearly explained, very occasionally and you can count them on the fingers of one hand the connecting pipe between the expansion vessel and entry into the system has sludged , Vokera Linea was usually the offender .This showed up as high pressure very quickly after turning on .Checking the expansion vessel showed it to be 1 bar . Make sure you deflate the vessel though before you clean it as there is still water under pressure in the vessel.Vokera mynute range was bad for the heat exchanger leaking , back left hand corner sometimes only visible when working.or is that showing my age?

Hi Alan. Good explanation of the possibilities you covered. However I have noticed over the last 6 months that the boiler will show zero pressure when cold, will start up perfectly normally and show 1,5 bar when up to normal temperate. IE I do not have to top up, so no leaks. That one is a mastery to me. Also the annual service for the boiler is only 6 months ago, no faults then.

The only combi available that can be fitted on a open vented feed & expansion tank is an Intergas. As is the case for Intergas heat only and system boilers. Any minor very slow weeps do not stop the system from working. When changing an old boiler on a feed & and expansion tank, it may be worth while keeping it when changing to a Intergas. The Pressure Relief Valve can then be capped up. Intergas state that when fitting on a feed & expansion tank, to keep the internal pressure vessel vessel connected. Any pressure rises at the boiler will be partially absorbed by the pressure vessel as well as the feed & expansion tank. When changing an old system from an open vented to a pressurised system leaks can be created on old joints - also some radiators can bust or balloon out and TRV valve bodies leak at the spindles, needed new valves. Keeping an old system open vented has many advantages. If it is not broke do not fix it.

I have a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 30i that loses pressures after the heating as been on. I've pressed the schrader valve on the expansion vessel and water comes out. I haven't noticed the the pressure gauge going over 2 bar or leaking outside. Am assuming the expansion vessel needs replacing due to water out of the schrader valve ?

Awesome video. Thank you. Immergas Intec Combi boiler is losing pressure over 13 minutes running from 1.1bar to nil E10 error. Expansion vessel replaced 24 months ago and today recharged with air (no water in vessel). Bled rads to get some air out of system. Now recharged and testing heat exchanger overnight having isolated F and R valves. Will 1.5bar be enough pressure to test? Very strange. Suppose I have to now have a look for leaks... baffling 😢

Top man!, thanks to you my customer has no choice but to pay, hes had another builder in before me and the system has been empty since January, he asked me to hang and connect up 6 Rads, and get it pressured up, but i prewarned him about possible faults on boiler because its been empty so i covered my ass, but thanks to the advice from tou about seperating the system overnight to diagnose the boiler or system im getting Payed thanks im most greatful

Great video very interesting. I have had a leak on my Worcester Bosch 28 CDi for years now, had a second heat expansion vessel added because my engineer didn't want to remove original expansion vessel inside boiler case , vent valve on top of boiler replaced, have also monitored the pressure relief valve , leak is still there and have to increase back to 1.0 bar once a week on average when using central heating. I have also noticed now and again if i tap the boiler pressure dial on the front of boiler it sometimes moves the needle. Has this been the issue all along? I was also watching a you tube video on how to detect a leak be it wherever in the system by smell, think it was Skill Builders You Tube channel. The suggestion made was to add something very smelly into the heating system, eg TCP? or perfume etc as long as it's not corrosive. Then in theory wherever that smell is in your house thats the place to start investigating. (Not done that yet) My worst fear though is that the leak is under the floor boards, house was built in 1935 , foundations are non existant just bricks laid onto clay, just pure dirt under the boards, very little height available have to crawl on stomach. So would be hard I reckon to find leak, maybe a copper tubing joint is my best guess?

Thanks for posting this. Just to confirm, if I set the Baxi boiler pressure to 2 and then unplug it, turning off both 22mm flow and return pipes for the central heating and wait and watch........that should be reasonable enough to suggest an ongoing pressure drop is either related to our system or within the boiler..? We had a Baxi, under warranty, engineer visit us due to pressure drop, slow but regular. He could find no issues each time wit h the boiler but the expansion vessel was at 0.35lb pressure. So he reinflated it. All 8 rads have had kitchen towels underneath their valves, no leaks noted at all. A few years ago we had full 15mm copper / Hep20 piping fitted, not much of it underfloor, some run on the skirting boards. All looks good. Doing this type of test could help to confirm whether the boiler or the system is at fault. I assumed that the boiler might only be leaking when it is in use, something to do with the heat etc..? But, perhaps that is why you raise the pressure to 2bar..? Thanks, and subbed :)

Good video Allen. I am not a plumber but its worth mentioning when tighten the pipes to the rads do not over tighten the nuts on the copper pipe as you can "neck" the pipe at the olive and it will never seal properly. Don't ask me how I know. My son had a pressure drop and we found a pin hole leak under the floor, pure luck that we found it. I saw another video that these can be caused by pipes not being de-burred prior to soldering.
