I know I'm a little late to the party watching this, and am only 15 minutes into this episode but seeing how her power works and her literally feeling someone's emotions, her text messages with Isaac makes way more sense. Assuming it's not just anger she "empathizes" with, the reason Isaac thought she was so into it was because HE was so into it and she literally feels and copies those emotions. If so that's a wild ass power. As always, great LP so far.

12:15 ooh, I was worried I made the wrong move by succumbing to rage, mashing W cause I couldn't stand to see Gabe in danger, but apparently you don't have a choice here? I always thought superempathy would be my preferred superpower, but now I'm seeing some downsides. there's always some negative consequence in the LiS games.

"She was wearing rings too" I know. I think some people underestimate just how much damage the proper rings can do in a fight. I wear self-defense rings for a reason. I'm undecided whether I'm sad or happy that more people don't wear them.

Some years ago those... knuckle ring thingies idk? became very fashionable in my country and ended up banned, and people were mad because they really didn't understand the danger lol. But pepper sprays and such are also illegal here so it's not that surprising.

Yeah, sounds awful to live in a state where your emotions are always competing with someone elses. Like your emotions aren't even your own. When do you know when to act on the things you feel?

So far, I really like this. Definitely more than Life Is Strange 2, and a fair bit more than LiS 1. Before the Storm was my favorite entry in the franchise until now, so it makes sense I like this one. The superempathy is done well so far. There is a couple of paradigms regarding how empathy works, but one I like the most separates inborn empathy (natural one, you could call it a talent, a genetic capacity) from obtained empathy - empathy you gain through process of socialization and develop through interaction with people. Having too much of the natural empathy can actually hinder your ability to refine it into the "skilled" empathy - because your inborn empathy is mostly about your brain picking up clues and "reflecting" emotional states of others like a mirror passively, while obtained empathy is about doing that through effort, observation, imagination, and communication. So if you are too empathetic "by default", it actually makes things harder, because its easy to get overwhelmed and tangled with feelings of others. This is kinda why a good therapist needs healthy dose of natural empathy, but critically, they need a lot of obtained empathy - and if they had to choose one, lacking natural empathy is much better. There is some research on this subject, but it is not very popular in USA, because, well, a lot of it is interested in resocialization of prisoners, and that kinda diverts the goal of prisons from exploitation and alienation of inmates to actually trying to make them capable of rejoing the society, and that is a big no no. It also highlights how education and wealth gap makes socialization and development of obtained empathy harder, which...yeah. I don't want to think how Alex power influences her intimate life, because yeah, being around a horny dude must be terrible for her. Same for depression. I know how being around depressed person impacts highly empathetic people who try to care, and how soul crushing it can be, and...with superpower intensity, it must be unbearable. The comment about Tree Cop being tuned to emotions of others is interesting. Since there is a lot of focus on birds, I wonder if that's the reason? Birds are supposedly very sensitive and the common trope is that you need to be really cautious and serene to properly photo-hunt them; it might be why Ryan is good at self awareness and mental self regulation. Or it might be just "big guy softie with weak spot for birds and animals", making him a Disney Princess. I die inside every time DND replaces RPG, basically conflating the entire genre with just one game :( but i guess it is "the game" in north America...still, its like seeing somebody look at a comic book and hearing "Oh, is that Marvel?" while you are doing Sandman or Batman or something.

Yeah, first time i see another game studio surpassing the original one. I like original LiS, but when Deck Nine made prequel... god it was so much better in writing department. And this game rises quality plank even higher. I hope we see more games like that from Deck Nine.

I've been figuring shit out about myself and realized recently that I'm innately very empathetic and it explains so much of what's gone on in my life. Your description really resonated with me, and I'm seriously glad I don't have Alex's superempathy omg! It's hard enough just with the level that I have, I definitely would not want to be even more affected by others feelings, yikes. Interestingly I've always liked birds and they've liked me, dunno if that goes along with being more sensitive & empathetic but it's a cool coincidence either way.
