i do find the debate on the legality of this knife a bit odd. It is legal end of, if an ignorant cop arrested you the surely the custody Sgt would send you on your way. If they were also a tool then the courts would sort it, came applies to any legal EDC knife though. I'm really thinking of getting one of these, looks like a very solid thing. How has yours stood up to the test of time? cheers

mines worked out just fine, the edge does take a little work now and again on the strop but overall its been absolutely solid. I do however still feel that you are asking to be arrested for producing it in public. the problem lies in the intent, if a member of the public feels fear or distress from your useage then it becomes a weapon in the eyes of the law.

@@mountainbearoutdoors thank you for your reply, I think I'll get one as everyone seems to rate the build quality. It's kinda just the same as any knife I guess, if you use it in a sensible place for a sensible reason you're unlikely to have any issue, if you fetch it out in a town centre pub you're asking for trouble.

@@mountainbearoutdoors oh and also, thanks for testing it with a ferro rod, this is such an important factor that just gets overlooked by most!

I don’t mind the AUS-8. It isn’t bad per se as long as you know it’s a budget steel, don’t over pay and sharpen it a bit more frequently. When you speak of the UK knife laws, it makes me cringe. But then again I’m from Texas and we have more freedom to carry a wider range of blades. Are you up to taking suggestions for knife / product reviews? If so, I’d like to see more regionally favored products that may not get any of the spotlight here in the states. Plus, ways y’all may use the equipment differently. Thanks for your video. Btw: not sure if I mentioned before but I did purchase the Morakniv Bushcraft Stainless Steel 4.3-Inch Fixed-Blade Survival Knife with Fire Starter and Sharpener in Desert Tan. VERY happy with it. I opted for stainless as it stays in the trunk of my car for backup purposes - but I get it out and work with it intentionally as it seems to want to ha ha. Thanks again

Hey thanks for getting back to me, I'm pleased you like the bushcraft in tan it's a less obtrusive colour. In terms of regional products the UK isn't well known for its knife production with the exception of Sheffield which is a city raised on the steel industry. I have to be honest most of the Sheffield knives I have used are either poorly finished or really expensive. The knife laws in the UK are a bit stupid, our government takes a hard line on knife crime but most of the knife crime in the UK is committed with kitchen knives. Our law states a cutting edge of 3 inches or under and the blade cannot lock, that has also been extended to include leatherman tools. A royal pain in the arse as I feel naked without my leatherman but have had to resort to carrying one of the old PST models or the Gerber mp600 bladeless. I'm hoping the Aus 8 handles a bit like 440c as it's really easy to sharpen, I would rather spend 2 minutes stropping than half an hour on the stones. I think I would be in my element in Texas I could carry something like a Becker bk9 on my belt. Stay safe brother

It's a UK legal knife to carry.. I thought the UK law states you don't need a valid reason for carrying 3inch and under none lockable knife. So if they confiscate it then they're stealing your property which is in itself a crime they're commiting

yep stand up for your rights, insist on seeing the desk sergeant as they are normally much more sensible than your average uni graduate with no clue of the actual laws in this country. top tip, be polite but firm. being an arse gets you nowhere with the police.

you do not need any justification for a pocket folding knife that is 3 inches and below

Wow that's some really level headed policing, I'm surprised they let you have it back being as big as it is. Tbh I haven't been searched but I just know it would raise eyebrows if I had it with me.

Mountain Bear outdoors because it’s legal, it complies with s139 under 3 inch cutting edge and does not lock, they had no choice, if they refuse to give it back they have to charge me and that’s an easy lawsuit

@@tydeProductions yeah we both know it's legal but I've heard some horror stories in the news of people getting arrested and charged for having a Swiss army knife on them. Good to see the law recognised that you were in the right.

@@tydeProductions Good to hear, yeah some police are a bit ignorant of the legalities of what you are allowed, I was considering printing the blurb off the gov website and carrying it on me if I got stopped I could present them with the facts.
