This was a longing of Lust not love .The script had Ridge going after Caroline to spite Bill and then later Thorne . Bell Sr.finally put Ridge with Caroline because he knew Joanna was leaving the show..so hence the Pity marriage story to kill off Caroline character. Bell Sr. knew all to well that dynamic chemistry between Ronn Moss and Katherine Kelly Lange so that is reason for Caroline not being with Ridge character and more so with Thorne.Joanna and Ronn had an ok chemistry..but it was not a hot one.Ridge and Brooke would become the core love couple of B&B and these characters of Ridge and Brooke have spanned many decades together. The break up to make up core love couple of the soap.

Ridge has been like that in many episodes. He has badmouthed Caroline behind her back, has badmouthed Brooke behind her back. He has treated Margo quite rudely to her face when he suspected that she might be the woman in Eric's life - just to soon after that hit on Margo again when Caroline had been "busy guarding her virginity". And I still pity the model, who had done nothing wrong at all, who modeled for him ...and he suddenly without a warning ripped off the sleeve and rudely treated her like a lifeless mannequin/ doll, when he made changes to Margo's design. But still they all loved him, they all admired him.

@@Esi528 From a real part of ourselves, extremely true, and also it helps when we are able to see behaviors and examples to avoid in real life whether we like the character or not. I know Brooke does dumb things, although she isn't dumb herself. Also don't forget, conversations like this with Ridge and Caroline, Brooke doesn't know about, she hasn't watched it lol As for lack of any interests besides Ridge I see where you are coming from, she IS in love so it's kind of logical, but also I imagine they wouldn't show Brooke reading a book, collecting stamps, or having friends who are not related to the story. We don't see that with any characters. And we did see Brooke for example having very little thought of Ridge during her dad situation, when she travelled to meet him etc. Going up against Stephanie being a David and Goliath situation, I imagine you mean because Stephanie has more power and is smarter than Brooke (not academically smarter as Brooke is a scientist) I will add that even when Brooke has power, it is still David and Goliath because Brooke for some reason doesn't stay angry at Stephanie for too long, when Stephanie does. In all their truces I am quite sure Stephanie always broke them because she hates Brooke a lot more than Brooke hates her.

@@Esi528 About Brooke just standing there concerning Ridge's joke, I am not sure she got it was a joke at first, I think for a moment she bought it too. just like Thorne and Caroline, but I am not sure. She did show weakness. Now as for Brooke being boring, I get it she can be seen as such although she has been in interesting storylines that didn't have to do with Ridge. I guess yes you may be affected because you don't think KKL is a very good actress, I think she isn't the best actress you will ever see, but I am in the middle about this and I will give you an example. I don't know if you remember the scene where Brooke is packing to leave the Forrester house and Stephanie sees her and they have another uncomfortable discussion, I think around 1989. Anyway at the end of the scene Brooke tells Stephanie she will pay for this etc. I thought that was the lousiest acting I had ever seen. Couldn't they do it again? But on the other hand in exactly those scenes the way Stephanie talked to her and Brooke's expressions were on the spot. At the moment Stephanie gets up to leave and then stops to bash Brooke a bit more, the way Brooke desperately turns presumably thinking "what else am I going to hear now" that to me was excellent from KKL

I know this was a tormenting episode for Brooke's fans. But guys you have to admit that Caroline was undoubtedly his first love. Ron Moss was not always the best of actors but the scenes with Joanna in those early episodes were his favourites and both did a wonderful job. Well, the show was so much better back in the day.

Honestly, Moss’ best acting was when Ridge was wooing women or they were swooning over him. I never watched later seasons, but in these early seasons, he nails any scene where Ridge is being charming. Like in Season 1 when he met each of the Logan sisters, Ridge dealt with each introduction perfectly. With Katie, he won her over immediately because she was a naive teen crushing on him and Ridge dealt with her as her elder. With Donna, she was mad at him at first because he forgot to call Rocco, but it took like 2 minutes before he calmed her down and charmed her. With Brooke, it was verbal sparring ending with a kiss. I can’t imagine another actor being as believably smooth as Moss.

Stephen does introduce aspects of Mental illness to me. I'm happy the girls are tickle but they treating the mom like it's some kind of Bye Felicia attitude! When their needs are getting met that the Dad sure can't do yet!! I pray he gets a good understanding and job!. I feel very in the middle this time. I understand that last time when Brooke came clean to Caroline, it blew up in her face and it was used to stop her from seeing ridge..... now Stephanie is again using Ridge as the ultimatum to enlist Brooke's interventions to save her marriage.. But Brook lying to her own mother here is just so dreadfully painful. It signal the first of many betrayal by Brooke towards other Logan women. It's a dark and sad moment.

I have liked Caroline and her (former) morals, but really Ridge dragged her down and I disliked her passive aggressiveness. If you love your husband and want him, then move out if your brother-in-law permanently disrespect you and your marriage to his brother. How would your husband feel and react, if he sees you talking in that short pyjama/ underwear to his brother? How would Thorne feel, when he has to listen to Ridge going on about how you would be only naked if you were married to Ridge and not Thorne? That talk already crossed too much borders as that anyone would think it is a good idea to live under the same roof. You think Ridge has been disrespectful enough to slap him? Then why stay in that home and why don't you move out as your husband has wanted you to do already? If you still are so hung up on Ridge that you can't let go of him, then divorce Thorne and move out of his bedroom and his life. Why let Thorne kiss you and make out with you in bed, while you think about his brother and that he has asked his current girlfriend to move in? At times I would have liked to see Caroline dating Storm for a bit (and he had been attracted to her too), but watching her with Thorne and Ridge, I think Storm would just have ended up getting hurt.

The gender dynamic is at play here. WARNING: Long Post Ahead with 34-35-Year-Old Spoilers! I didn't watch the show in its first three years; by the time I started watching this once-fine program in 1990 (Sorry for the spoilers in this sentence and beyond!!), Ridge and Caroline were just married, Kristen had just left for New York, and Felicia (Colleen Dion) had just joined the cast. Bill Spencer and Margo Lynley were still around, doing... something or other. All the Logans were gone except Brooke, Donna, and (the oddly recast) Storm. Sally Spectra and her daughter had essentially taken over the "underdog" / "Not as good / rich / classy as the Forresters" role by that point. As a result, I find it marvelous that the producers are making these early shows available to us! Having said that, I'll ask whomever catches this message: Viewing these from the very beginning, and now at the 287th outing of "B&B," am I the only one who discerns that the "Close-Knit" Logan Family aren't nearly as close as they appear? From almost the very beginning, one or several of them has kept secrets from the others and been otherwise duplicitous, and in nearly every case, they justify their deviousness by saying, "It's for [her/his/their] protection." Not only are they not close, they're all so very, very annoying - at least, to me. Storm throwing the anonymous letter in the trash instead of showing it to his mother is one small but recent example of this behavior. Early on, there was the (what ultimately is an 18-20 month story of) "Donna-fixes-Katie-up-with-Rocco-Carner-to-be-a-good-sister-even-though-she-clearly-likes-him-herself" debacle. Yeah, I skipped ahead, 'cause I just couldn't take it anymore; this thing started around Episode 5 in March 1987 and goes all the way 'til Episode 396 in October 1988! I know Bill Bell loved telling his stories over a long period, but---OH, the humanity!!! Rocco by himself is more annoying than all the Logans put together, but that's a whole post in itself... Back to the Logans. We have "Miss Thang," Donna, running around back in '87 with Mark Mallory and the gang in secret, then her secrecy, irresponsibility, coupled with the lie to her mother, (original) Beth, nearly cost Grandma Logan her life. Then, even GRANDMA lied to the rest of them to protect Donna's sorry hide. Speaking of Grandma, her needling Beth to wait faithfully for her deadbeat husband to return---never divorcing, never getting involved with another man---takes the cake. I was glad she moved out. Storm seems a bit too one-dimensional to me. "I'm angry and I'm gonna let the whole world know it! That's why they call me 'Stormy'." Waaaay too overprotective of his sisters. The anger over Stephen, Sr.'s abandonment is the only thing in the house that has ever made sense, so he's earned props from me for that. Donna is insufferable: pouting like a baby any time she doesn't get her way, modeling and/or prostituting for obvious sleaze merchants, keeping it all a secret from her family. Brooke encouraging her mother nearly from the beginning to pursue (or at least respond favorably to the romantic advances from) a married man, keeping Dave Reed at arms length for nearly a year of "engagement" (I don't recall her ever actually saying "Yes" to his proposal...) while she (1) stalks Caroline Spencer, a stranger she only knew of through newspaper articles, during one of her most vulnerable moments (2) manipulating her, with not much convincing from Thorne Forrester during another such vulnerable moment... Let's pause right there. Brooke and Thorne took advantage of a rape survivor while she was in an emotional crisis. Thorne, much more so than Brooke, but she was no innocent waif, either. Thorne is being written as a sociopath; I say he is guilty of *emotional* rape. (No time was granted to Caroline to consider what marriage to Thorne would mean; Thorne refused to allow Caroline to see Ridge, much less speak to him; proposing the MOMENT her rape trial was over was desperate, ridiculous, and insane. 'Nuff said for now.) As far as Brooke, there's another 34 years of her... "stuff" to dissect. Beth warned Brooke several times about getting in too deep, about hiding Caroline's letter, and a whole host of other things this first year... nearly all of which Brooke ignored. (Not to mention what later would happen between Brooke and Eric.) And finally, Beth----WHYYYYY did you hide your relationship (and Lifelong Love for Eric) from some of your children, and not the others? This emotional affair had been going on for over six months by the time Brooke and Donna went to get Stephen. Why the secrecy? Why the clandestine activities? Why the lies? Lies made baby Jesus cry. Doesn't seem like such a close family to me. This business with Katie and Donna now is the pinnacle of it; I just--can't, with these twits. "Daddy's home. Why doesn't Mom just forgive and forget? Her emotional upheaval and future plans with Mr. Forrester mean nothing. We're six-year-olds who don't have a care in the world! We'll leave and be drifters with Daddy if Mom doesn't get over herself and take him back!" Aren't these supposed to be young adults? Do they not have the mental capacity to put themselves in another person's shoes, or at least those of THEIR OWN MOTHER, for God's sake??! Now, we have Stephen, who seems to have fallen under the same delusion as his daughters AND his mother... namely, expecting Beth, Storm, and Brooke---and the whole world---to accept him back with open arms, like the last eight years of struggle never happened---and his abandonment, his wanton rejection of everyone who loved him, was like unto a long weekend in Vegas. AARGH!!! I say all the foregoing to say, and I know I'm in the minority here: I'm glad Bill Bell wrote these people out within the first four seasons. It was his wisest move. Brad Bell's dumbest move was writing them back in shortly after his father's death. There, I said it. And it's been "The Logan Show" ever since... I submit that Brooke (say what one will about her) is merely a product of her environment. I never expected this, but, watching these early episodes, I've unexpectedly gained for Brooke what I never had before: sympathy - and a bit of grief for what "might have been" with Dave Reed, had she not given in to certain... shall we say, "temptations"(?) and insinuated herself into the Forresters' lives.

@@Esi528 I totally seeing your point as for Brooke here! However, the whole issue with this quadrangle was a lack of trust on Caroline's end. She should have trusted Ridge enough and his love to continue the relationship in the first place! William Bell did some awesome writing to build CRIDGE UP and matured them to be the powerhouse couple that we as viewers can root for! As for Bridge my biggest problem with them is their lack of impulse control. To me Brooke made some bad choices to live in the Forrester household without a ring and Ridge had intention to marry Brooke in the first place. I believe Ridge loves Brooke as a friend which he has said in some episodes that will come up soon. Even though he has shown some tender moments it's due to him not hurting Brooke. However, Brooke knew and still took a risk that Ridge loves Caroline he made that no secret. Playing devil's advocate! Looking back over drama series I'm looking at things differently!

Brooke should have stopped every contact with him early on. He did not deserve her and her love. Although, Ridge was raising Brooke's children, she also raised his when Taylor died, regardless if they were ungrateful brats (besides Phoebe). And when Ridge did abandon them they were not children anymore and Brooke didn't ask him to do that, and she didn't want him to at the time.

RIDGE IS THE REAL VILLAIN here. How can he say so blatantly that he's playing with both Brooke and Caroline? Caroline was disappointed here, she got a shock. Ridge from the start has given me enough reasons to dislike him (eg when he proposed to Caroline to upset her father, then cheated on her with Alex). But his "seduction" in today's episode would have been another turn off for me. I have no interest to always run around naked because my husband would want me that way. While I don't like the way Ridge talked about it (that he would not let me wear anything, no gowns, no pyamas, ....just me), that thought alone makes me freeze, because I so easily get cold (even in summer it can't be really too hot for my taste). Currently I am sitting with warm blankets and a got cup of tea, and are still focused on what to wear to feel warmer, maybe taking a nice hot bath..... . Maybe that is the difference between Californians and us. Here, many currently go either skiing - or just try to deal with the cold when at home.

Well Ridge just said it how it is! I always thought Caroline and Thorne were better suited however, I have seen another side of Caroline. She now is now playing games, she wants her cake and eat it too. She has the perfect little set up going on. In hindsight, perhaps she would have been better off with Ridge. No doubt he would have become bored with her over the years and had many affairs. The very thing her father was trying to spare her. Ridge didn't love her, she was just another conquest and a virgin at that, and a way of hurting Bill. Perhaps Ridge did grow to love the 'idea of Caroline' as she made him wait and didn't chase him. Two things I doubt he ever experienced with girls/women. Once she was married to Thorne, Ridge was almost obsessed over the 'idea of Caroline' not who she truly is now. It's all about punishing her now. IF she truly loved Thorne and NOT interested in playing games with Ridge, she would have said yes to the idea of moving into their own place and getting on with their lives.

I find Ridge so deplorable.
