There's been a lot said about the natural and easy chemistry between Jeff Trachta and Bobbie Eakes. What I also find is that, perhaps mostly due to both their performances, Thorne and Macy come across as more human and accessible than the other characters on the show. These are the kind of people you'd happily have over for dinner because they're friendly, down to earth, and real. It says a lot that I feel more for Macy and her upcoming battles with throat cancer, than I do for Taylor who is being held captive by a psychotic prince. Macy is just so much more grounded in reality.

@leviaj1 I totally agree with you! Thorne and Macy are more like the couple next door, down to earth and easy and fun to be around. I said it before, but as a still huge fan of Jeff & Bobbie, I love this storyline and everything what will follow in the next months ❤️

I agree - Thorne and Macy come across as real people with real feelings, and it makes it much easier to empathize with them compared to anyone involved in the Moroccan storyline. Macy trying to hide her worries behind a casually cheerful tone of voice just hits much closer to home than Taylor screaming and tearing her clothes to shreds. It's this low key, "normal", lighthearted acting style that makes it absolutely heartbreaking when something extraordinarily bad does happen.

@@annieo6527 I wonder what the show would be like if it was rooted in the rivalry between the Forresters and the Spectras, with Thorne and Macy as the main supercouple, as opposed to the Forresters and the Logans, with Ridge and Brooke as the main supercouple. The Logan/Forrester dynamic went off the rails the moment it became incestous. The Forresters vs Spectras/Thorne and Macy storylines give us so much more to root for.

Where the heck is Eric is always the question.. He's only around when there's some young tail to chase. I keep saying he was the one who was most desirous of wanting to press charges against Dylan and now he has disappeared bc of his marriage troubles, as usual leaving Steph to deal with everything. And you are right.. Jessica is not even Steph's blood relative.. She needs to pack Jessica off to Eric and Sheila's. Sheila wants a Forrester child.. Jessica is it 😂

"Don't worry, it's not contagious!" This is what I always liked about the Spectras - with them there's always a very fine line between comedy and tragedy, between laughter and tears. Macy is joking about her sore throat, and the other day it was Sally joking about Macy's coughing fit (until she realized it actually _was_ a genuine coughing fit). Also, it says a lot about Macy's character that her focus when talking about her doctor's appointment is not her own concerns about her health, but reassuring Thorne *first* that _he_ isn't going to get sick, and *second* that he shouldn't worry about _her_ being sick. She is entirely focused not on herself but on Thorne in an interaction that is actually _about her._

A better use of her power to have the state at her beck and call, would have been to have found out Taylor was alive and basically being held hostage by Omar, and calling the Feds on him (she could also call Lt Burke but I feel like Morocco might be slightly out his jurisdiction lol

I think it's only natural that the law on B&B is a kind of extension of Stephanie's will. After all, the law is a sort of personification of the "rules of the B&B universe", and Stephanie is the "ruler". So when Stephanie uses the law to deal with her private matters, she is basically seeking validation from "the universe" for her own point of view. And being the powerful character that she is, she usually gets it. What is interesting in this case is Sally's role as a representative of something more "chaotic" - she has a big heart but is a natural rule breaker. And the writing is actually ambivalent in this storyline as to who is morally in the right.
@NewYorkNick0607
@NewYorkNick0607 Жыл бұрын
@@annieo6527 Oh Annie I LOVE that interpretation! I've compared the Stephanie/Brooke feud as one where Old World Tradition clashes with Modern Romanticism and there's a similar dynamic between Stephanie and Sally. As the traditionalist, Stephanie embodies rules and propriety and norms so naturally she would marshal the law to defend the status quo (and her niece's "honor"). But Sally is more modern in her outlook, more subversive and not just a norm-breaker like Brooke but _an actual law-breaker_ (constantly stealing from Forrester Creations) so naturally she would feel sorry for the young lovers and scoff at the statutory laws. There's a kind of Mark Twain moralism going on here where -- as he depicted in _Huckleberry Finn_ -- society and the law may actually be standing for the wrong thing (slavery in that case) and it takes someone uncouth and outside proper society to see that (Huck Finn/Sally).
@annieo6527
@annieo6527 Жыл бұрын
@@NewYorkNick0607 exactly! And this is one of those cases where the writing _doesn't_ side unambiguously with Stephanie but appears to lean towards supporting Sally's point of view (case in point, Sally has _Connor_ - usually a representative of reason - on her side!).

@@annieo6527 And as you said in another thread, this would all work better if the couple at the center of it was root-able. But there's nothing between Jessica and Dylan. And I agree with you that the casting of Jessica is the main problem. Dylan Neal isn't the greatest actor but there's room on soaps for a stunningly beautiful man - they just needed to make the character hungrier and put him in s ex ie r situations. But Jessica really needed to be played by a strong young actress who the audience could identify with (because Dylan is the "object"). They needed to find the next Heather Tom.

While it's nice to see an Asian actor on this show for a change, this is exactly what I was referring to about how actors of color were often relegated to these side "legal" roles in the 90s (prosecutor/judge). It was a way for Hollywood to claim diversity and representation by making these high status professions characters of color to "correct" previous depictions of them as criminals or uneducated. But it was just dressing up the same old problem in different garb because these roles were marginalized and the characters still lacked subjectivity and storylines of their own. This happened _a lot_ in the 90s. In movies like _A Few Good Men, The Client, Primal Fear,_ and _The Rainmaker_ (just to name a few) the judges are played by actors of color and none of the main characters are. On _The Practice_ and _Ally McBeal,_ there were a number of judges played by great characters actors of color but they were just a rotation of side roles and when they needed a judge to be a real character with a real storyline, they got Dyan Cannon and Holland Taylor.

Yes, this has been something @tiroyaonejustinphologolo9763 also observed. YR did a much better job of integrating ppl of colour into storylines. And not necessarily stereotyping them (Altho I do find they would start off their POC character as a stereotype, then make them mainstream). I actually wish they'd had the guy playing the judge on as a steady character (he could still pay a judge) with his own family. And I wish they had kept on Ruth and family!

As much as the story is a bit of a snooze fest... I liked the judge a lot lol. The naivety of Jessica and the stupidity of Dylan is exactly why they need someone to intervene. As it is, they are allowing any and everybody who sounds like they agree with them, to influence them into making things worse. All Dylan, the adult, had to do was wait the few months til Jessica was a legal adult.. Then they could do whatever they want.

I could see the Jessica/Dylan storyline working as a "star-crossed young lovers" type of plot, if only the characters involved had better chemistry. The problem is that this couple doesn't actually have anything that keeps them together. There is no connection, no explanation _why_ they are so in love with each other (and why Dylan would prefer Jessica over Ivana who in spite of her wooden acting still has more life in her than Jessica). Jessica was head over heels in love with Dylan the moment he gave her a random rose (sorry for bringing it up, Trish!), and Dylan's love for Jessica is even more inexplicable because she radiates negativity, low self esteem and immaturity, and acts more like Dylan's star-struck kid sister than his girlfriend (even the show has a problem explaining what Dylan sees in Jessica). So we're left wondering what exactly they are fighting for. There is also the problem that neither of them, individually, evokes any feelings of sympathy. Neither of them is particularly well-defined in terms of personality (and what is defined is not necessarily likable). Jessica is an annoying teenager whose most prominent character trait is that she plays the violin badly. And Dylan seems too confident, too much the "most popular guy on campus", to make us feel sorry for him - we know he will never have a problem finding a girlfriend whether or not it works out with Jessica. So where are the stakes for us viewers? I think Jessica in particular is miscast. In order for this storyline to work, it would have been so much better if she had been intellectually mature (like they tried but failed to portray her at the very beginning with her interest in classical music, literature, and the writings of Dr Warwick) and not awkward but an unapologetic introvert. Then it would have made more sense for her to connect with an older guy. Jessica on the other hand comes across as if she'd be out of her depth in a conversation with Kevin about bank accounts.
@mara4450
@mara4450 Жыл бұрын
I have wondered about Dylan too. He is supposed to be older and so more mature, but climbing into Jessica's bedroom or regularly secretly meeting your girlfriend, when you have been arrested and indicted, is just kinda dumb and immature. But when I went back to the episode, when Dylan meets Eric for the first time and has his internship interview, Eric mentions that Dylan is a *freshman* at college, even when Dylan already knows what he wants to do as his major and that he wants to be finished and out in 3 years. Dylan also mentions to Eric that if he wouldn't have his baseball scholarship, he couldn't afford UCLA. But yes, the writers should have written a better story to show and explain why they had fallen so quickly for each other and why Dylan is willing to risk everything for Jessica.
