How nice that Rick’s mother’s nemesis, not his father, not his mother, is negotiating a deal to secure Rick’s happiness.🙃

Rick's mother is too busy fighting a new younger nemesis over her step son, to really care that her actual son is fighting for custody of a baby that could be her own grandson ... And Rick's father.. Well.. He's as useless as using a bucket of water to put out an inferno. Ppl have said so many times that Steph didn't like Brooke's kids and didn't spend any real time with them growing up (Altho why should she as they were literally no blood relation to her)... Yet funny how these same children are always turning to Steph for help and she's the one who supports them. Imagine Steph pulling out her chequebook and writing a cheque for 100k without so much as blinking (or telling him to get the money from his actual parents), just to help Rick out of a jam he put himself in. Nobody can ever convince me Steph isn't a good mother, even to kids that aren't her own

Now we are supposed to forget that the writers made it seem like CJ was slumming it . That he didn’t come from a well off family Sally Spectra has 200k to pay Deacon And CJ owns a night club He chose to live with Amber in her crummy apartment ,but could easily have moved to a better $$ place!
@TriniT21

Same thing I said... All of this could have been avoided if CJ had stopped acting like he was poor, and just moved the baby and Amber into Sally's nice apt in the first place, like they are now.

The way Amber is talking about Rick is just the same distorted way Forrester men talk about Brooke: they give features Brooke and Rick dont have at all. And for the record, CJ has that features.

After finding the predominant storyline boring, it became more interesting to me today. That’s because I realized that the real story here isn’t the Amber/Rick/CJ triangle; it’s the class struggle Deacon Sharpe ignites. There’s always been an element of classism in the Forrester vs their antagonists storylines, but it’s never been as apparent as it is now. I still loathe Deacon, but he became far more interesting to me today. Watching him abandon the money not just because he realized he could get more (he can) but because he is truly bothered by the Forresters’ casual dismissal of and disdain for him was a twist of sorts -one that made him more compelling, at least to me. His interactions with Sally were interesting for the same reason. @annie has noted that Sally seemed to get Deacon’s respect in the chapel scenes because she was able to relate to him at his own level. Similarly, here she talks to him as an equal, and he clearly relates to that. I even think he respects her somewhat. When he tells her to drop out of the baby auction because she can’t afford it, he looks like he actually means it, at least in part.
@annieo6527
@annieo6527 8 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly! I was just about to make that same comment about Deacon telling Sally to drop out of the auction - it does appear as if Deacon has some sympathy for Sally, and even though he may want the 200 000, he doesn't want it from _her._ It would be more satisfying for him to get it from the Forresters, because of the class subtext. Deacon and Sally recognize each other as similar, and the Forresters as fundamentally different from them. (By the way, I just realized there is a follow-up in 2003 to this class dynamic in the context of the battIe for custody of Little Eric, involving the Forresters, Deacon and the Spectras - and the sudden Deacon/Macy connection in that storyline makes more sense when we've seen this Sally/Deacon connection first.)

Yes to both you and @AnnieO! I couldn't even relate to the class "struggle" between CJ and Rick bc it frustrated me how they kept making CJ "poor" when really, he wasn't, and owns a whole business (which, incidentally, Rick patronises quite often). Deacon IS, actually, of a lower social class (in many ways.. Not just financially) and so he is the key to making this class war relevant, as you say., and to @AnnieO 's point, looking as if he is siding with Sally against the rich and powerful Forresters, from whom it seems he prefers to milk for money. I may not like Deacon the character, but the actor who plays him is doing a fire 🔥 job of it with all the nuanced behaviour

Rick stating all he wants is to be a husband and father, when a year ago he was wishing he could just be a normal college freshman. And when Rick said he had been looking his whole life for someone like Amber, I chuckled since he's only what, twenty?
@annieo6527
@annieo6527 8 ай бұрын
I thought that was funny too - during which part of Rick's "whole life" was he looking for someone like Amber? She was literally his first girlfriend. He met her when he was like 16, got her pregnant, married her, spent the entire marriage not wanting to be married to her, divorced her and happily pursued Kimberly, and only recently decided he wanted Amber after all. I guess that "whole life" refers to the last few months after he discovered that he wouldn't be getting what he wanted from Kimberly.

It would certainly be very interesting for any judge to know that the biological father wants to sell his child to a man who in turn wants custody of that child. How should this be viewed morally and would it possibly greatly strengthen the position of a former husband of the biological mother?
@mara4450
@mara4450 8 ай бұрын
Maybe it would strengthen the position of the former husband, if the husband did NOT just also join the bidding process, offering more money to the biological father.

@@mara4450 right. Every one of them has now taken part in that shady auction. At this point the most sensible thing to do would be to give Joe and Tilly custody of the kid.
@TriniT21
@TriniT21 8 ай бұрын
@@mara4450 exactly. The paternal father didn't actually ask for money... He didn't even know who Rick was at first til Rick told him, and thought Rick was trying to shake him down for money over the baby. Rick started this whole ball rolling by bragging about what his last name was, and then offering Deacon 100k. In reality, any judge, I think, should take that baby away from them all - Amber included - as they all are complicit in potentially endangering that child's life and participating in a baby auction to the highest bidder
