as someone who is most interested in the characters in a story, what deeply interests me is how each character in a story feels about their first kill. it's somewhat like a mile high club. we never got to see Killua's first kill, but he's so unfeeling when he does it, it's obvious from his assassin past that it's just normal to him, but he's trying to do it less. meanwhile, Gon and Leorio have yet to kill. then there's Kurapika, who, after killing, is so *disgusted*. to think this is the revenge he wants, he truly doesn't enjoy hurting others, let alone committing murder. he wants to avenge his clan, and he gets nothing out of it. it's so sad. poor Kurapika

As tradition dictates, it must the said: "Kurapika brought a shovel to a fight to the death." Man, I love this episode, and there is so much awesome to come still. HxH is top tier 😁 EDIT: On the topic of the "thief of joy" part, the problem is considering something like HxH is baseline. HxH is pretty much a masterpiece. If you make that baseline, almost everything else is "shit". It's not fair to the creators. Imagine how unfair the world of art, all forms of art, would be if only the top 10% of all creative works are considered good because people watch those and consider the worst of those 10% as baseline for quality. I just think it's important to not let your baseline be too high, otherwise you're just throwing away works that have their merits in the same bin you would those you think have a lack of any merit. It would literally mean failing in comparing the works when comparing them is the whole point. *Also, "thief of joy" only happening on shows that aren't good is very inaccurate. "Thief of joy" happens when the person doesn't enjoy a work as much as the one they compare to, regardless of which one would be objectively better, if there can be such a thing.* I've seen the same argument go the exact opposite way. A friend told me HxH is boring and takes too long compared to the stuff they like, comparing it to Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man, especially regarding the Chimera Ant arc. I told them I thought they all have their merits and did great in what each meant to do and I thoroughly enjoyed all of them, and that HxH is amazing in what it does best: consistent storytelling and the qualities that brings, including the power system and its own consistency. I believe that if comparing a show to another makes you like a show less, then you're doing it wrong. You can like a show better than another and still like the other show a lot. HxH has its merits, just like Chainsaw Man has theirs, like Mairimashita Iruma-kun has theirs, like Shinobi no Ittoki has theirs. If I'm going to compare the last 3, which all aired and I watched this season, of course Ittoki would be at the bottom. But knowing it's nowhere as good as the other 2 doesn't mean I can't enjoy it for what it is: a flawed story that didn't have a clear direction and went 180 halfway through with a conclusion that was ok for the level of the work. Being able to enjoy a show that for you is comparatively worse than another you like doesn't mean you have bad taste. In fact, I'd say it would make you someone with bad taste as much as wearing pink would make you gay (which was a thing they instilled into boys in the 90s, for those who are younger than that and wouldn't know).

Emperor time even tho it's real powerfull it takes a toll the longer he uses it and that's the only weapon he has against any other opponent (since you know he can't use his chains) so you could say that Kurapika's biggest weakness are long fights.

@blackprotagonist2 жыл бұрын
@@Ryuksgelus Uvogin literally said that Kurapika had the strength of a Master Enhancer. That’s one thing I simply can’t overlook. People are saying Emperor Time is still limited by Kurapika’s innate Conjurer category, but I don’t understand how that works even if Togashi explained (read: retconned) it because: 1) Kurapika is no longer a Conjurer when his eyes are Scarlet … he’s a Specialist. So Conjurer is no longer his innate category in that state, is it not? Otherwise he’d be occupying two nen categories at the same time. 2) If he can only have maximum strength RELATIVE to his innate category as a Conjurer, then what is the point of Emperor Time then? Like, given enough time, he can maximize his nen to their relative potential and then he wouldn’t need Emperor Time anymore. 3) Uvogin literally said that only another Master Enhancer should be able to block his blows and strengthen the chains to the degree Kurapika has. 4) Doesn’t Emperor Time spike his aura in a way that enables him to pour 100% of its output into every nen type efficiently? So with training, he can still hone this like any other fighter would to improve it.

This, right here, is why the Nen system is so brilliant. Typically it's based off the standard Shonen power system of 'improve your base strength in the magic system', which is additive. Except...everyone can cheat if they are willing to constrict themselves. Kurapika *cheats*, both through Emperor time and the powers he bestows on the chains. However, for both, he pays an extremely high price. He can only use the full power of the chains on a small list of individuals. He is immensely powerful at the cost of his life. Specialist applies to both his category and his abilities, he's only effective against a few people. If he's against other people...he's immensely weaker. Anyone in Hunter x Hunter can cheat the Nen system--but it's all based on what they're willing to sacrifice for that immediate short-term gain.
@suzumutsu Жыл бұрын
I feel like people sometimes forget that Emperor Time doesn't just automatically give Kurapika a bunch of cool powers, all it does is raise the percentages of how effectively he can learn techniques from each nen type. He still had to learn all of those techniques by himself. I feel like he's probably an ever rarer talent than Gon and Killua because they all learned nen around the same time but Killugon still only know the basics, I mean they can use a bunch of nen stuff like Ren, Ten, Hatsu, Zetsu, Gyo, etc. but they don't have any specific techniques they developed, while Kurapika has all those different chains with different abilities. He seems insanely overpowered at first even with the drawback of the nen blade that could kill him at any time, but after learning about the full price he pays for Emperor Time in the manga, it hardly seems worth it honestly...

@termindterguta35142 жыл бұрын
@kindabatooni9314 everyone has their opinions, and that's cool yet, there is a total difference between what kurapika saw and what the phantom saw. Kurapika lives for some years in peace and then lost everything, the phantom troupe never had a family, a home, or the "luxury" kurapika had (the luxury that I'm talking is having the food, water, being always clean etc") . For what reason did kurapika suffered? Money For what reason did phantom troupe suffered? No reason, they were simply born there, there were not considered humans, no one cared about them, so killing them was not a problem. During the flashback they were talking about how another kid died, how someone disappeared, about how the mafia kidnapped kid to make them join them. Meteor city was an environment where today you are friend with someone, and the next day you cry at his graveyard. So yeah, kurapika easily had a easy life. As I said, I agree with you that phantom troupe are the bad guys,there is no excuse for what they did ( I think there must be something more that we don't know about the phantom trope killing the kurta clan buy we will see). The 2 chapter are not meant to make them more likeable or to try to justify their actions, the 2 chapter were made to let the readers know, where they come from, and why their bond is so strong. Because of the hell they were living that they don't care about anyone anymore, cuz no one cared about them or continue to care about meteor city (in fact phantom troupe is taking care of that city by becoming the most feared organization so that the criminals can stay away from the city).

hunter x hunter is the best thing there is out there. not only battle shonen, not only shonen, not only anime medium... I'm talking all media! As far as series go, I won't touch film because the format is too different. But yeah, the world, the rules, the arcs, the character development, everything is masterfully well crafted. I've heard other people put OP or FMA on top of HxH but theres no argument there. Theres so much intricacy in HxH, Nen System, characters. While the other two feel more infatilized, sometimes forced, over the top shonen bs, etc. Waaay many ass pulling per minute those than in all HxH. I also think as Mushishi is other well made work. It lives in its on world though. Same with Samurai Champloo/Cowbow Bebop, although I'm partial with Samurai Champloo just because. I think I like the setting more, and its way less edgy than CB. But the two of them are masterpiece. Why HxH is better IMO? Because for starters the scope of SC/CB is way less ambituous, and thats fine. To me thats the enchant of both of them, the "antologic" shorter series vs the long run shonen. But its way harder to maintain the quality in a series with a greater length as HxH. Not only that, HxH gets better and more complex without losing its whimsical quality too. Althought this last arc is sooo seinen but I'm all for it. Yeah the creativity to come up, craft, maintain a work as HxH is much greater than OP and the rest. The rules are more well thought, more tight. The characters's psychology is more realistic, they don't make stupid decision just because, unless they are really dumb or they make an unfortunate mistake. spoilers ahead: People will counter with the "gon/kite plot armor", or the hisoka revival, but cmon. I can say that for Gon there was lots of foreshadowing. And Alluka was a deux ex machina, but is a great character that puts everthing in its place for that final arc of the friendship of gon x killua AND ties directly to the Dark Continent. We may have more clues about her true nature as Nanika. Kite? He had a Nen ability, he also lost his body and part of his self too. He didn't die but he did die, you know? as far as Hisoka, I think the evil clown only bought a brief moment of life so he can wreak havoc momentarily. Also the rules for his revival were set a long time ago. I thought it could've been fine if he died in that battle, but at the same time its more interesting this path. He also lost body parts, and its more deranged I think. But as I commented I don't think he will survive again. And the only glaring plot hole in HxH is Killua knowing his granpa ability during the Palace Invasion scene. But thats about it. For a series with so many rules, and game theory-ish decision making, this is fucking fine considering that it seats unique above all else in term of consistency, logic, quality, complexity, maturity, care, depth, etc. Theres no other thing as HxH out there... You can find complex stuff with very well crafter stories and characters, and a power system in literature only.

for all the comment that saus "Kurapika was so confident he would win, that he even brought a shovel. " i dont think its the case here i think kurapika conjured that shovel from his nen

Its not that easy to just create anything because you're a shovel, besides I don't think he'd use his Nen for something so trivial.

learning to conjure a thing is not that easy, he went through intense image training just to make chain, there's no point in learning how to conjure a shovel if he's not gonna use it in battle

the best answer for this is "he went there in a car that's owned by the mafia," so they probably have a shovel in the trunk for when they need to do mafia things and there is no water nearby

@@Pingu2004 sure the phantom troupe are great characters but… they tortured and killed his whole family and everyone he ever knew. I get liking the villains but it’s just a matter of empathy really, I mean how would you feel if the troupe did something like that in real life to you? Also he’s not ruthless about it he gives the troupe the chance to repent if they want.
