I think I still enjoyed the ending more than most people. Some people say it was anticlimatic, but in my opinion it fits the anime pretty well. Ie didn't NEED any kind of battle, because I really love how "realistic" the anime was throughout. And with people complaining that Kayo didn't wait for him, that would've been unrealstic too. Sure, she owns a lot to Satoru, but she also showed that by literally appearing 15 years later. No girl would throw away her happiness just to stay loyal to a childhood crush that might never wake up again. That's why I actually love this whole anime and find that it's pretty overhated.

Though I must agree with people that the "hints" at Yashiro being the killer were a little bit too extreme. I mean he was pretty much the only possible suspect for it, since we didn't really know any other middle aged guys that could be the killer. But that's about my only complaint in the whole series.

Watching this a second time with you guys 5 years later also made me feel it was better than I remember. The attention to detail they gave to continuity was incredible. It's the kind of consistency you only realize was there after watching it again. And on top of that, I have a slightly more mature impression on the events and psychology of the characters. *Certainly raised ranks among my favorite mystery shows. Speaking of which, my top suggestions on the topic of mystery shows is Steins;Gate (in fact, top suggestion for most), Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni and Another.* *I should, however, warn about mild gore in Another and, well, serious gore warning on Higurashi, though I must clarify that for me the greatest selling point of both, ESPECIALLY Higurashi, is the mystery.*

The OP of this anime is really interesting. You expect the roof scene to play differently because they mislead you the whole time showing Satoru running from a bullet, but it turns out that didn't happen .... or did it? At first I thought it was more like a metaphor, but ... it's quite possible that actually happened in an alternate timeline! Maybe they just didn't show the scene or the butterfly, but Satoru might have had another revival after that. After all, he doesn't quite remember the details after a revival, and we're watching from protagonist's perspective. But a hint that this might've happened is here: 5:48 "Not like telling you would stop you from killing me." Maybe he actually tried that! Did anyone else notice this too?

I really love this anime, totally recommend it to people. Most things people seem to dislike about it don't really bother me. Kayo not being endgame and Yashiro being the killer because it was so on the nose never really bothered me. HOWEVER, there IS a 3rd main thing that people do tend to complain about it and that I also personally dislike. How after Kayo get's rescued (first half of episode 9) they simply rush things over, cut lots of content and create an anime original ending that is pretty lackluster (the final confront with sensei, i like the things that happens after). And I really felt how things got faster by the end of it, so it did leave a poor taste in my mouth. And then, when I read the manga a few months later I finally learned why I felt that way towards the end part: Kayo get's saved on chapter 24 of a 44 chapter manga. Chapter 2 or 3 or 4 (can't remember which), gets entirelly skipped, so with this you can analyze that it took 8 episodes and a half to adapt 23 chapters and they did a fantastic job here! Now, how the hell are they gonna adapt the remaining 20 chapters in 3 episodes and a half??? Well... Not with the same quality... We lose Kenya's backstory and also lose Yashiro's true backstory. Airi's character gets SO reduced as all of her scenes during post-coma Satoru gets cut (and also the early cut chapter (2 or 3 or 4) heavily featured her and Satoru). The girl in the hospital was also a bigger character who lost most of her screentime. And lots of other stuff are lost as well. Anyway, the anime is still really good, I gave it a 9 and I do not regret it. However it needed a bigger episode count... The manga for me, however, is a 10. Not only the skipped and rushed content are pretty good, the original ending is way better than this (in my opinion) very anticlimatic final confront, the cut content simply works so well to elevate this show so much to me.

Oh, and I do have a recomendation: Orange. Never seen anyone doing a reaction to it, but it is similar is some ways to Erased and It's also one of the few anime that emotionally destroyed me so I would love to re-experience it with you guys lmao.

Ahh, what a wholesome anime. Glad you guys watched it. Oh also, for note, the "Yuuki" in Japanese is "Courage" but not the snow. The snow is "Yuki", it sounds almost the same but the courage "Yuuki" has longer "yū" sound. Just wanna let you guys know.

Im japanese and for us, Yuuki(勇気) and Yuki(雪) sounds really different.But thinking that many japanese who didnt learn english, can’t distinguish L sound and R sound in English, it makes sense for me

Some short underrated shows I would recommend would be Akudama Drive has a really cool cyberpunk feel & is action packed each episode. Astra Lost in Space lots of twists and turns with a very likable cast set in space pretty self explanatory with the title. Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu amazing cast, storytelling, & drama.

Totally agree with re:LIFE, literally read the manga after watching the last episode,however,personally I feel like they ruined it with the 5 episode ova (or whatever it was actually called) cuz the manga was 200+ chapters and they barely fit around a 100 in 13 episodes,so doing 5 for the rest was DEFINITELY not enough.also the anime original ending with the confession between the red hair girl the blonde guy wasn’t the best but I understand why they did it that way so that they can end the season

One thing I adore about the ending is that like alot of emotional anime like this, in the end, everyone usually parts from eachother but this isn't the case. All of them stayed friends in the end. Absolutely loved it just wished him and kayo got together tho.

You want recomendations. I do not think the are series alike Erased. But something alike could be "Steins Gate" (time travel) and "Charlotte" (students with secret powers). In other aspect could be "Hyouka" lesser mysteries and good friendship.

I know that in the manga, while Satoru is in coma, his mother told Kayo to keep going on her life and leave Satoru behind, but even tho, it hurts seeing that Kayo ended up really leaving Satoru behind and getting together with a character that barely had any relationship with Kayo in the whole story. It's just nonsense. But the anime was so good 10/10, one of the best animes that I've ever watched, I even dare to say it was the best that I've ever seen.

I think many ppl were into the mystery part of the show, and since the show threw the mystery aspect out of the bus at the ending some lost the connection they had towards the show. Tho I've seen the show more like a thriller so I enjoyed the whole show🤷‍♂️ everyone views stuff differently

I can't bring myself to like this ending. I really hate how anticlimactic they 'defeated' Yashiro, but on the other hand, I love the ending afterward, friends reunited, people saved, meeting love interest Airi, that is the good shit. However, the resolution with Yashiro was just lame. Another critique is how many things they left out from the manga. I read the manga it was a lot, mainly the ending. Anime ending was made up by the anime crew at that point it stopped being an adaptation. I know this was done because of the limit of episodes, the one cour series, 12 episodes, so they just had to improvise and leave out a lot of stuff, I just wish they could have 15-16 episodes series just to wrap things out properly. Although with the limit they had, they've done a great job in terms of storytelling, passing, overall direction. Adapt 2 volumes of manga into 2 episodes is impossible, so if I overlook the anticlimactic ending with Yashiro, this show is easily 8/10, otherwise 6.9/10.

Maybe someone didn't understand the essence of anime, but the essence of anime is lonely people, The ending is very sad, Yashiro has always been a lonely person and Satoru understood it "Because there's only one person in this world who knows real u, me", when I watched the anime for the first time I didn't understand such an obvious thing, but now I understand what Satoru meant, all the anime Satoru helped lonely people so that they would not be lonely, so that they would know that someone needed them, and Yashiro was very angry because no one helped him with this, Yashiro was always lonely, and therefore he did bad things to make these bad things Filled his empty heart

My first watch I didnt realize that the teacher was the killer till the candy scene. Also I thought it ended badly. But I rewatched recently and it was so obvious it was the damn teacher. And I thought the ending was perfect lol weird

As a mystery, this show could have been much better. Same goes for the anticlimactic ending. However, the journey it takes you on and the emotional beats all hit just right. The direction for most of the series is also fantastic. As such, it will always be one of my favs.

I watched it with being super critical but those critics are ridiculous. okay, not a good mystery, what's the definition of that genre then? is mystery something that needs to have plot twist? don't think so. people are just nitpicking things. most people loved it. aside from genre, the whole ploting, sequencing, moral value, and several themes that being brought were fleshed out pretty amazing. don't get caught on people who desperately want to be the anti-thesis.

We all know how terrible anime liveaction are, but the netflix version of Erased its really good and in my opinion is better than the anime. Also because in the final its the same as the manga and adds an entire new final arc like in the manga

At the same time, you have to consider how effin' long a 15 year coma is. Even if you are best friends and they are your hero, would you sacrifice your teenage and young adult years for them when there is no guarantee that they will wake up, be the same person and/ or have any romantic interest you. It's also stated often throughout the manga that Satoru's interests in Kayo wasn't romantically but in a way of resolved determination of protection. He even thinks the idea of being with her is creepy because he is mentally 29 while she is mentally 11.

Overall I liked this anime. Obviously I disliked that Kayo tease. To make it even worse the anime tries to replace her with Airi. The same people against Kayo are ok with Airi like it's not fking weird the 17 year old girl is close with the 29 year old guy. Y'all can fk off with that logic. As endings are paramount this anime always irks me near the end but I use it as a reminder of a flawed masterpiece. Still always recommend it as an entry level anime to new people.
