Just a trivia: The funeral of Merry is a known tradition for wooden ships before. It was meant to show last respect to ships while putting them to rest. It was not special for Merry. Even for viking funerals, the human also were cremated the same way on a boat in river. U might have seen it in GoT
@Shiftarus3 ай бұрын
Its probably a reference to "viking funerals", which were for people not ships. But acually that is only in stories and fiction, it wasn't a thing in actual history.
@parthachem833 ай бұрын
It was for ships too, not just human
@biswaranjanmallick74073 ай бұрын
@@Shiftarus No, in Buddhism and Hinduism they burn it.
@Shiftarus3 ай бұрын
@@biswaranjanmallick7407 If you are refering to ""Festival of Fire Boats" that is not really the same. The "boats" are made of paper and are not meant to represent real boats, they are metaphors for the vessels that transport to the afterlife. There is a large decorated boat that has candles put on it but it is not burned, For the record I love the imagery and significance of viking funerals in storytelling... I just wanted to let people know that it didn't happen in real life... since I was surprised when I learned.
@Shiftarus3 ай бұрын
@@parthachem83 I havent seen any stories where they did it for ships other than OP but I will take your word that it happens, the reason I said it was for people was because vikings did actually hold funerals by burning people with their possessions so that's probably where the trope comes from

When you make your readers and viewers cry for a ship that was more than just a ship, but she was a fellow crewmate, then you know that what you're creating is something special with your series.
@alaindesuason45223 ай бұрын
You can understand the loss of that boat, it's comparable to when you lose the place where you grew up, all the memories where you did so many things.
@emiliocorvalan33223 ай бұрын
Normally this is the episode where most comments say "welcome to the crying for a boat club" but that seems kinda late as you have been crying for the Merry for a while. I wonder, is there ever going to be a point that i watch this without crying? In the real myth of the klabautermann, the spirit shows itself more the closer the ship is in danger, so as her final moments comes closer the Merry voice reaches more people, first just Ussop in skypiea, then to the whole crew in enies lobby,and in this final moment even the Galley la randoms hear her and she can hold a whole conversation with Luffy. Her final moment is the moment her voice is the loudest and she uses it to say sorry and how happy they made her. Now for One Piece at a time: The Merry is a Caravel,in the real world even though they didn't hold much cargo, they were preferred by merchants as they were quite fast,but compared to other ships at the time they were not really made for combat or exploration, which makes sense Merry the butler made it to use himself. Iceberg is right, the Merry is a miracle, that it made it even to this point in the Grand Line is a statement to how much she fought to be with the crew.
@SuperSky93 ай бұрын
Fun Fact - Klabautermann actually exist in real life folklore Its a water kobold that assists sailors and fishermen on the Baltic and North Sea in their duties. It is a merry and diligent creature, with an expert understanding of most watercraft, and an irrepressible musical talent.

Yo, BOLDcast. I've been trying to catch a vid of yours early enough that maybe you'd see this comment. I've been watching along w/ you from the live-action on and wanted to offer some encouragement. I've been a weekly manga reader since 2004. I was weekly w/ Naruto, Bleach, etc. during that time as well. To Carson's credit, I (and many other people during this era of One Piece) was enjoying those other series more week to week. I liked One Piece, but I still didn't get as hyped about it as those others. It wasn't until a bit beyond this point, when Oda started to really crystalize how he wanted the Marines to work as a threat and settled into the over-arching narrative that this series leapt up to my top spot. A lot of the folks watching you guys are forgetting that their perspective and all that they already learned informs their views on how YOU should view the series. They aren't trusting Oda's writing to get you there on its own, and I apologize on behalf of the long-time fans that so many commenters have been bashing how you enjoy the story. I personally believe you will see the hype once it delivers on the hype. The story refines itself further from here. I'm eager to see how you feel about it as time goes forward. It always has flaws, but it's the sum of its parts that makes it such a special work in the medium. You are the reactors I'm most anticipating getting fully hooked on this. Just enjoy it your way, try to ignore most comments, and I trust that the writing will land for you as it did for others. Thanks for trying it out. P.S. Interested to hear a list of your favorite book/manga series in general, as I've yet to find that info anywhere and it would go a long way for me understanding your perspective. Much love.

Thank you for this, truly It means a lot to hear this As for my favorite series, I haven’t updated it in a few years, but we each have MAL accounts and livestreams on our main channel documenting our perspective on each rating It’s incomplete, but it might be what you’re looking for. I also did a livestream somewhat recently where I roasted viewer’s mal accounts and their opinions. I went on some weird tangents at times but it’s a pretty good stream I was never deep into manga as I was into anime, especially now that we react to anime and I need to keep from spoiling myself. But my favorite anime is Welcome to the NHK. Idk what my top 10 would be I feel like I’ve changed a lot of my opinions since starting the channel. Off the top of my head NHK, Attack on Titan, Clannad After Story, Baccano, Hunter x Hunter, Fate/Zero, Honey and Clover, Psycho Pass (Season 1 and movie only), Promised Neverland (season 1 as a complete story), Steins;Gate (Season 1 only), and Wolf Children if I can name a favorite movie.

"If it was just the fucking thing that was broken" the Keel support the whole ship. If it's broken, it makes sense the pressures will destroy the boats starting from where the weakness is. That's why they said the Merry wouldn't be able to reach the next island, especially since it's obviously not just the keel that's broken, it's just the keel that's unrepairable.
