I think fans though to a certain degree were being a little hard on Korra, because even though she was wrong to make out with Mako, he still said he liked her and he never turned pushed her away and at least Korra immediately felt bad about it afterwards and apologized whereas Mako might well as have said "Your crush and I made out. Get over it " But yeah with Opal she didn't have any relationship or emotional baggage and wasn't a diva or a yandere so she was perfect for Bolin

Bolan interestingly is far different from Sokka. While they both lift the spirit in team, Sokka never had any bending. The team rely on Sokka 24/7 to travel on the world and his instincts to decide what's best for the team. Sokka also has insecurity as the only non bender in the team. Bolin however had a bending, and a special one that is (magma bending). While Bolin offer many comic relief, the team doesn't really rely on him to make a decision or plan. Bolin is a great character and in fact, he is more amusing to watch than Mako in the series. But compared to Sokka, his character growth aren't that great as TLoK was rather short. Bolin character could've expanded greatly as he is the youngest in Team avatar.
