I used a pair of bolt cutters for the first time last night to cut off a metal spring that was sticking out of the underneath of my chair. The cutters are by Cobra and are 14 inch which I believe is suitable for cutting through things which are under 10mm in thickness. The spring was under 10mm, so to my surprise when cutting through the spring it was very difficult and it damaged the jaws. I'm not sure whether I did the wrong thing or whether the bolt cutters were just very low quality.
@ultimatehandyman3 жыл бұрын
Just saw a pair on eBay, they are very inexpensive for bolt cutters, so probably poor quality. Spring steel can be tough though! I used to have a pair of these when I worked on site, they were brilliant- kzbin.info/www/bejne/i5yxZniQlLeal7M&t

Just use an empty coke can to make 2 strips to put between the shackle and lock body, doubt it's using ball bearings, maybe reach through the keyhole with a bradawl to move the lugs? Doubt the keyway is shielded, probably easy to rake with a paper clip bent into a squiggle and a jewellers screwdriver, if you see the ones that have a circular keyway with a line at the top, tubular pick, cost so little, aren't much harder to use than a key. Plus due to recent events you don't look suspicious if you cover your face! So CCTV is useless! The guy with the face mask is just a responsible citizen and your CCTV is worthless! And the lack of noise or evidence of a break-in (convince the insurer that you didn't leave it unlocked, your door probably isn't much better, may need one of the three most common bump keys and some special lever keys you can buy online or a little picking knowledge.) Quicker, quieter, smaller, lighter, more easily concealed, especially if you have done some reconnaissance and you know what tools to bring! Most locks are actually really bad, both the materials that can be cut with bolt cutters or, in some cases, other, smaller metal working tools, bypasses like shims or raking/picking. Get a good sturdy lock with a quality disc detainer if you value what you're locking up!

The jaws on a 36 inch one I have won't open, and one bolt, the one closer to your hand is missing, when I tried putting a new bolt in it bent, does it have to pass through the part on the handle or hold it down with its head, to make the jaws open or why would that happen?

there is an adjusting screw on the side of both handles(or should be)...tighten them up and it will close the jaw up.

Wouldn't it be easier to cut through the shackle then the body?
@ultimatehandyman3 жыл бұрын
No, the shackle is made from hardened steel. If you look at a lot of bolt cutters that have been used on the shackle, you will see that the jaws are damaged and have gaps in them- this is because they have been used to cut through the shackle. Sometimes you don't have a choice, but it is best to avoid cutting the shackle if possible.
