Some of those locks would be impossible (or very difficult) to get the bolt cutters in a position that would effectively cut the shackle, IF the locks were connected to a hasp or latch... especially considering that you could barely get the cutters in to cut some of the shackles with them just loose on the table.

@@Fierriel I wasn't talking about the regular MasterLocks that you would find on HS lockers... I was referring to the reinforced ones, with high walls or extra buffering around the shackle... The ones he couldn't even get the shackle as deep into the bolt cutter jaws to bite as much as he wanted because the jaws were too big. (Including the one that was stil unopenable after he cut it from the top... the only place for a hatch) Now, I'm not saying that better quality, (even slightly) slimmer cutters couldn't handle the job and potentially fit in the small gap. I've sliced through very large eyebolts, steel cable, very heavy chain, automotive tires...the wires used to make tire carcasses are incredibly high tensile strength pearlite (upwards of 4000 MPa), which translates to incredible hardness upwards of 1200 Vickers, or more than 71 Rockwell C (harder than almost all tool steels). I'm quite impressed with them.

FYI... "Bolt cutters" are designed to cut bolts, chain, & cable, not hardened locks. Battery-operated angle grinders would usually work better, but only if you have the correct blade on them. The best thing about the Harbor Freight bolt cutters is the flush end of the cutting part; the "high dollar" ones have a rounded end (harder to get into a small space), dent more easily, and typically slip worse.

If you try and cut close to the shackle, the wedge of the blade will but up against it, and create a sheering force perpendicular to the cutting force. You want to make sure there is good clearance either side of the blades, so that its easier to cut, and so that it doesnt introduce sidewards movement and increase blade damage. @@mxzplx78notforkids Well they wouldn't work at all how they did here if it was a 'real life' scenario. The title asks "are they worth it" and given you'd want to use this in real life scenarios, I'd say no

I bought the small pair at HF, and I haven't had an issue using it. Pretty impressed actually. And I use em on multiple, weird thing's. I drive a tow truck. They come in handy

May I know what length of that bolt cutter you bought? The one shown in this video is 42", too big for my purpose.

@@LawAbidingCitizen117 I believe it's a 12"

I have the exact same tool, used it a few times over a dozen or so years. Still cuts like new.

If you turn the cutters on their side like you’re doing but put the one handle on the floor you can use both hands to push down on the top handle and get more leverage. Makes it a lot easier cause your not trying to balance them while cutting

If you put whatever you’re trying to cut closer to the tip of the cutting end it will help also it doesn’t seem like much but it does give more leverage and helps cut

Was anyone else expecting Tyler to wipe out while trying to cut that bike lock?😂
