Some of those locks would be impossible (or very difficult) to get the bolt cutters in a position that would effectively cut the shackle, IF the locks were connected to a hasp or latch... especially considering that you could barely get the cutters in to cut some of the shackles with them just loose on the table.

@mherrmann81687 3 жыл бұрын
@@Fierriel I wasn't talking about the regular MasterLocks that you would find on HS lockers... I was referring to the reinforced ones, with high walls or extra buffering around the shackle... The ones he couldn't even get the shackle as deep into the bolt cutter jaws to bite as much as he wanted because the jaws were too big. (Including the one that was stil unopenable after he cut it from the top... the only place for a hatch) Now, I'm not saying that better quality, (even slightly) slimmer cutters couldn't handle the job and potentially fit in the small gap. What I am saying is that due to their cost-saving (aka cheap) quality HF bolt cutters are too bulky and would not make a great first choice...

I have those 42" HF bolt cutter and the 12" bolt cutter. They make a great pair. I've sliced through very large eyebolts, steel cable, very heavy chain, automotive tires...the wires used to make tire carcasses are incredibly high tensile strength pearlite (upwards of 4000 MPa), which translates to incredible hardness upwards of 1200 Vickers, or more than 71 Rockwell C (harder than almost all tool steels). I'm quite impressed with them.

FYI... "Bolt cutters" are designed to cut bolts, chain, & cable, not hardened locks. Battery-operated angle grinders would usually work better, but only if you have the correct blade on them. The best thing about the Harbor Freight bolt cutters is the flush end of the cutting part; the "high dollar" ones have a rounded end (harder to get into a small space), dent more easily, and typically slip worse.

If you try and cut close to the shackle, the wedge of the blade will but up against it, and create a sheering force perpendicular to the cutting force. You want to make sure there is good clearance either side of the blades, so that its easier to cut, and so that it doesnt introduce sidewards movement and increase blade damage. I got a much smaller pair of these, and whilst cheap and cheerful, they get the job done and have never failed me on the odd jobs I use them for.

Some of the locks you tested are designed to not give you access to the pin to cut when locked, like a tongue lock on a trailer, you would have to try and cut the opposite side.

While attached to something, a massive pipe wrench can work wonders. Just put the entire lock body in the jaw and twist. The lock or the attachment point will give.

Bro... Those locks with the shielded shackles are designed that way because when the lock is on whatever it needs to be on, you won't have any room to get those cutters on the shackle itself. You need to redo those and cut them from the sides!

12:23 Think realistically here, the tests for all these locks probably should have been done with the locks *actually* locked onto something, because the ability to access certain angles and parts of the lock ENTIRELY defines whether or not it can be busted off by even the easiest tools. I think with this lock in particular there would be NO CHANCE of these bold cutters getting to them. Not even the slightest chance of even cutting the metal a millimeter

If you turn the cutters on their side like you’re doing but put the one handle on the floor you can use both hands to push down on the top handle and get more leverage. Makes it a lot easier cause your not trying to balance them while cutting

If you put whatever you’re trying to cut closer to the tip of the cutting end it will help also it doesn’t seem like much but it does give more leverage and helps cut
