Those are some fun builds, Chris. I can't wait to see the completed build! Thanks for the shoutout as well.

Both builds are coming along nicely. I do hope to see more videos in the future. My guess is it's a lot easier to build without all the distractions from filming.

It’s definitely easier to build without the video camera! Maybe not easier as far as the actual woodwork and precision, but less distraction and less moving around all over the place trying to get shots. Thanks for watching and even leaving a comment!

It is great to see an update, since I still haven't dragged myself over to Instagram. 🙄 The western red cedar is definitely softer than spruce. I really struggled with keeping the top damage free on my last build. I'm really curious about the removeable neck, and looking forward to see the final result.

I will have to be very careful! I may keep it covered with some posterboard like Somogyi shows in his book.

All my guitars so far (about 16 I think) have been dovetailed necks but I like the look of your design, will be following your progress. BTW London plane is also known as Lacewood, very pretty.

Ahh, I have heard of lacewood and now that you say it, it does look like it. Good to know! The neck joint is not actually my design. I first saw it in use by a lot of other luthiers and then learned more about it from a book written by a couple of professional luthiers of many years in Australia, Trevor Gore and Gerard Gilet. They cover the joint in detail in their book, which is how I’m figuring this all out as I build this guitar. Thanks for the comment!

Chris, Very nice work, I was going to try the Bolton bolt off neck but we just moved into a smaller home so my shop is not built yet, I hope all goes well for you. That Tele looks nice too👍👍🇺🇸🎸👨🏻🦯

I appreciate it!

Needs more tapers or dovetails, no reason, I'm just feeling like it needs it.

The mortise in the face of the guitar above the soundhole is actually slighly dovetail shaped. It’s about 3mm wider at the bottom. Not a huge dovetail, but I’m sure there won’t be any issues as this neck joint has already been in use for many years and is currently used by many professional luthiers. So, I feel pretty good about it. Thanks for the comment!
