My sister’s wedding was during the Cup Final and one of the other groomsmen is a Habs fan. He was so psyched that there was a fellow hockey fan who wanted to watch with him during the rehearsal dinner that we improvised a setup on one of the TVs so we could stream it. Shame it ended the way it did for them and especially Carey though.

The habs winning the Campbell torphy for best team in the WEST for the playoffs will always be something fans will never forget. Truly a remarkable achievment given that they had one chance to win it once and got it. The Canadiens pedigree is just immaculate.

This was the last year for NHL on NBC. Shame Doc Emrick retired the year prior. NBC had a lot of critics during it's run but it'll always be a special one for me. That's when I really started to get into the sport. I practically grew up with the NHL on NBC theme. Doc was the hockey voice of my youth. You knew you were in for a big game when Doc was on the call.

I found it interesting that with the realignment of the divisions and them going back to normal the following year, Tampa was in the same division as the team they beat in the previous year's Stanley Cup final in back to back years.

There were outdoor games in 2021. They did a special setup at a golf course on Lake Tahoe to get around various restrictions in more densely populated areas, and were held in one weekend. I distinctly remember the first game that weekend being delayed partway through the second period because the ice started to melt under excessive sunlight.

Yes, I'm biased as a Tampa resident. Tampa was the only team that tried to change the cap space thing where you cant do it. Every other team wanted it. So, tampa said fine. If this is how every team wants it to be. So be it. Dont be mad at Tampa. Be mad at your team and such for wanting this.
@BeastOfMetal1989Ай бұрын
Yeah, I remember their prior objections being pointed out. Also, though, 2022 Vegas showed why it's actually a pretty difficult thing to pull off. Not every team is deep enough to survive being down a superstar for an entire season.
@DrainbamegeАй бұрын
Important to mention, they wanted to fix it after losing in the cup final to Chicago who was over the cap that year. So it wasn’t like they were the first team to win the cup by being over the cap.

That Tampa/New York series was epic. Ryan Pulock blocking McDonagh on an open net as time expired is one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen. Too bad the Islanders ended up losing in 7.

My first season watching hockey / sports in general. That first game for the wild (the team I root for) versus LA was the debut for Kaprizov. I often think of his overtime goal in that game with Anthony LaPanta yelling "Kirill the Thrill is For Real"

@@matthewdaley746 I'm glad we now have a management team that knows how to build a team culture. Where players aren't out to break the bank. Knowing their chance at a cup are slim. Molson wants too see some success before he goes. Like previous generations of his family. He put together a great management team and finally put a lot more money into development and scouting. And the players want to be part of how special it is to win in the market with the most passionate fans in the sport. MB loved handing out bad contracts.

And finally this video is up and I can point out the reason from yesterday in which I'm not a fan of "Play your own conference and help build rivalries." By the half way point, which we already face the teams four times, I was already mentally checked out and not go out of my way to watch and find out the results the next day. It did the opposite of "I hate these guys" in which it became "Oh, this team again? We already had them last week...."

This is probably my least favourite season of my entire life. Seeing Toronto blow that 3-1 lead to Mintreal is easily the most embarrassing thing tjats happened to Toronto in my lifetime. Worse tjan blowing that 4-1 lead in game 7 to boston and worse than losing to their own zamboni driver. The only thing that would have made this season worse is if the Canadiens won the Stanley Cup. So thank you Tampa for making sure that didn't happen. Didn't wanna see them win again but i'd rather they win 5 cups in a row than see Montreal win 1.
@lenkennedy9214Ай бұрын
@@matthewdaley746 with Hasek and Price in net anything is possibe. But i agree the Canadiens and Sabers both had horseshoes up their asses those seasons. They had no business being in the final. The Leafs beat theselves in round 1. I'm not sure where the Jets were in round 2 but it wasn't any of those 4 hockey games. Then for some reason the Golden Knights thought they could beat Montreal without trying.

Price and Weber willed the Habs to the finals. Another Canadian team looking to be "tough" might look at these two individuals as an example of what "tough" actually means. I can't imagine what it would have been to be on the Habs to see these two teams leaders, horribly hurt, willing their bodies to play literally until they could play no more. The pandemic and the shortened season obscured what is a mythic performance by Price and Weber.

As an Islanders fan in this season is going to get more and more painful as time goes on because that is looking like it was truly our shot for that era. I have no doubt they would’ve destroyed Montreal in that final.

The amazing thing about this season was that with players being put in quarantine for two weeks if they sneezed, Phil Kessel managed to keep his games played streak intact. The guy really is Superman. Also, I don't know who was voting for GM of the year, but it wasn't Islander fans. They complain all the time about Lou, but these two years were the most sustained success the team has had since their dynasty years. And, Let's Go Bolts. All the whining fans of other teams can go cry in their pillows.

The problem with Tampa Bay haters is that they’re gonna hate. I’m not saying that I’m hating. I’m saying to not hate the players, but hate the game. 🤷 I mean, even the TBL org. voted to get rid of LTIR - everyone else begged to differ. If anything, we should blame our team org. for voting against getting rid of LTIR.
