I beat this game on the 64 and the One; this was the only track I had some difficulty on. Best advice I can give anyone is to use Mars Guo; if upgraded, he has one of the (if not the highest) top speeds in the game. However, that’s not what makes him essential for this level, it’s his stability. The gripping power of his pod is second to none. Granted, I used him on this map when he was fully upgraded which I have no doubt helped me immensely, but it’s not the Everest mountain that he’s making it out to be. You can do it after some practice; hardest thing to overcome is just not falling. After that, you’re golden. May the Force be with you, racer!

So, a few things about Abyss: - The Speedrun record for this course with Skips is under 20 seconds. - It is possible to climb back up from the bottom track to the top track, but if you do it at the wrong place you will end up dying on the top track for no discernable reason due to poorly designed collision. - Veteran Runners consider Grabvine Gateway to be a more difficult track, which is comical given how bad Abyss feels for newcomers. - The Ports of this game actually have completely different physics from the original game as a result of badly coded traction in the year this game was released. For whatever reason, traction scales with framerate, so higher framerate means higher traction. The result is that the power slide has been nerfed, but the base traction of every vehicle is playable at bare minimum without upgrading traction, and upsetting if you upgrade too far or at all. - The Speedrun community for this game is alive and well, discovering new speed tech and skips as recently as 2021. We have a discord, we are in the middle of a no upgrades amateur circuit tourney right now. - Your struggles on Abyss are known by all who own this game, but the best racers to overcome it are Neva and Bullseye. Bullseye is preferable because of lower acceleration. Just some fun facts to share with you because this is my favorite star wars game of all time as well EDIT: Corrected an inaccuracy. GVG is harder than FMR

Interesting that you didn't figure out the short cut at the end of the second multilayer section. When you complete that section and you end up above the tunnel, just go straight. You don't need to follow the tunnel. It's a great short cut and you can boost there. Another hint, smaller pods are better for this track because the track becomes bigger giving you more room for mistakes up top.

I still reinstall this game from time to time - it is still brings much joy.

I remember playing this on the N64 as a kid and being infuriated. Now, I learned how to upgrade the podracers properly and I have played a handful of racing games since. It's not too bad, just be ready to use the brakes. Also, racers like Anakin, Teemto Pagales, Bullseye Navoir, and Slide Paramita are the best choices (pretty much in general).
@JaggedFel6213 жыл бұрын
After the second tunnel if you stay on top to the part with no walls, you can launch straight off the side in-between the flags at 5:38 and land on the platform (the minimap shows the split and the AI will make the jump, too).

If you're going too fast and aim the pod down slightly you'll catch on the ground and that will sometimes cause you to explode. Sucks but it just kinda happens if you're throttling it too much. Also I couldn't tell if you were taking advantage of all the shortcuts on this track either- after you get out of the early mesh tunnel but right before you go into that 180 degree curve you can bank hard left and cut right around all the structures instead of going through the narrow slit between them. Also if you manage to stay on the top level the second time through in the later part, don't follow the snaking tunnel from above and instead go straight through the flags- you'll end up going straight into the next part of the course.

Bullseye navoir I think is the best racer. The real secret is using a pod racer with good traction. And buying the upgrades is hugely important.
@digitalunity2 жыл бұрын
Hi, coming from the Speedrun community for this game: You're half right. Bullseye is really good for this track, though top level runners will use Ben Quadinaros. Upgrading traction is actually really bad though, as it will dampen the slide ability (which very few players actually seem to know exists or how to effectively use it for some reason, maybe no one read the manual back then). The best thing to do for a novice is to take that first corner slowly and go from there, but experienced runner not only can take that corner at speed, but can get back into the top track from the bottom by tilting sideways and climbing the wall of the tunnel. As an additional note, the port he's playing here runs at a higher FPS, which (because this game was coded kinda badly) increases his traction considerably

So glad this game's getting more recognition these days with the releases on modern consoles. When you said you chose Sebulba for this track I was like, "Oh, so you've chosen pain". I was expecting you to change racers at any time but by gawd you stuck with it. Hats off to you. Want more challenge? Beat the tournament mode without buying any upgrades at all. Use every racer to beat abyss. Fully upgrade Anakin and wait at the starting line of the Boonta Classic for the same amount of time as in the movie and see if you can still win. It's possible! Please developers, make Star Wars Forza 5 Pod Racer.

If i can give you my personal opinion, you need a race pod which has good traction and turning, not top speed. Sebulba shouldn't be a good pick in this one, cuz, although he has top speed, this track has tons of tricky turns and tricks to nail it. However, if you already thought this and wanted a challenge for yourself, then nevermind :)

Actually I didn't think this level was all that hard. At 2:44 of your video there's a shortcut in the gate on your left that all the CPU racers take. There's a small opening in the fence there that allows you to skip a long and difficult section of the course. You gotta take that shortcut every lap otherwise the CPU racers will have a HUGE advantage over you.

That was a hard ass race for sure. The way I used to win it on the N64 as a kid was to use Mars Guo. His racer is fast, but for one of the big ones handles pretty well, but also the MASSIVE engines seemed to make it easier for me to keep it on the track up top when I wanted to. Stay on top on the first bit, but I also went bottom on the second bit on purpose and then take the shortcut like you were doing. I won't say it was easy, but once I got myself a winning method I stuck to it.
