It’s not about the guy is playing hard to get. Basically she is a Muslim and he is a Hindu. They know each other and they already fell in love. But their love is doomed because of the religious tension! But they express their love secretly at her friend’s wedding! The girl you see with him is his sister who teasingly warns him that this love is forbidden and she is going to expose their love to their family!

This is an Indian Muslim wedding. You are right. The one in white singing is not the bride. She's like the equivalence of the bridesmaid. The guy who is a Hindu likes her and she likes him too but is afraid to proceed because she's a Muslim and there will be complications

In South India, brides do wear white saree but after marriage. For marriage ceremony they wear 2nd most expensive and colorful saree. For reception, they wear most expensive saree. Number of sarees changes by bride depends on time constraint. My sis changed 5 sarees during her wedding. By the way, groom is just a show piece expected to buy clothes which match bride sarees but not out shine bride. In North India crimson red dresses is standard wedding dress. Again here too, groom is expected to match not outshine.
