TD was a utility that played well in defence mid forward. Not sure jones would do so well as a lock down defender or at a bounce. Langford is more like TD. I guess jones could be like a forward half TD

Last night we had fewer mids in the team that we normally have to try and shove in other positions. Made a huge difference having Caldwell playing his proper position in midfield. When Perkins, Setterfield and Shiel are back, I'd love to see us leave mids out and develop more actual small/mid forwards

This is a really astute comment. Having fewer mids but more focused on their role was apparent. Great point

There might be a discussion for Durham being our most important player he's our only big bodied midfielder he plays like a dog he just continues to fight and never give up he didn't play against Port and we were smashed in the midfield and completely stopped the Bulldog midfield and got the ball himself what a star he is

It is I Bruce Ismay, the long dead titanic survivor and owner that is currently on their way home to Brisbane from Melbourne. Went down to Victoria this week cause I wanted to see the bombers at their home (notionally at least). My first game at marvel and I went in with low expectations and 3-1 losing odds. So I take my nice seats on level 2 watch the dons fans pile in and oh boy was that a special night. Quite possibly our best performance under Brad, yeah we beat Melbourne last year but they had no Gawn and yeah we beat Carlton but they were out of form. This was a full strength bulldogs lineup vs a undermanned Essendon one and boy were we awesome. I’m about to board a flight and I haven’t re watched the game yet so I’ll put my full analysis in the reply under this comment at about 10 o’clock. Great vid as always, carn the dons!
@XanderHerman-y8j7 ай бұрын
big parts of this game, durham was massive, he physically bodied Bont which I noticed at the time, always holding him back or pushing him too far or on the verge of laying a tackle so Bont could have little impact. one touch for Bont in the entire 4th quarter. the next big part was the overall clearance game, we filtered durham, Merrett, parish, caldwell and a little bit of stringer in there, all of which played very well. you saw so much more of caldwell on the ground, I was saying it last year, him and Perkins are our near future, they are at the age to start breaking out in this game, if they become elite we could too. the midfield in maturing, slowly but surely. we beat the dogs in clearances! ive made a lot of fun of kingy this week, he's flip flopped on us constantly and he was very quick to dismiss our midfield issues we are so sure about, and then call us "elite". we aren't elite yet but we aren't shit. we lost last week due to clearances, port were just unstoppable, and no matter what magnets we moved they were out. against the saints swans, cat in the pre season, hawks and now dogs, we haven't been trashed by the giant mids as much as normal. we are starting to find our feet in the middle, we won't be perfect this year but we could be figuring it out. the defence was amazing. everyone I have talked to since was incredibly stressed in the 2nd term, but being there I wasn't scared. we stopped many entries and we held our own. we didn't give up goals after a big effort like the goals in Sydney and port. we were so good at shutting down opportunities that we almost never let them run it down the field like against the hawks and swans. crazily I haven't been upset about that problem in 3 rounds! it may return of course, but right now we are stopping the run down the middle. and that brings us the the pressure, THE PRESSURE!!! I can't believe it, we applied great pressure, shut down transitions, played well after turn overs for and against us. normally if we turn it over its game over, and if our opponents do it we will turn it over and then read the previous part. but we woke up, the edge is here we are really doing well. the final and most important part for the win was.... me! being a Brisbanite I went to the Brisbane-melbourne game the night before and they beat the mag curse out of nowhere, and then I go to our hoodoo team in the dogs and we beat them. clearly I am not only a good luck talisman but the Essendon edge. that's right I AM THE ESSENDON EDGE!!! but yeah, awesome game great fun and a wonderful trip, fun, hilarious and great game as always. Jones had an impressive game, I want to see these efforts long term to make a decision. But the boys were really well. Just one issue, why is it that stringer only plays good when it’s a contract season? He is a star but just needs to be consistent. I was at the game and was expecting 50 point thrashing so to have this result was like a dream (no lie the night before I had a nightmare where we it was 74 - 19 at 3/4 time)

Unrelated to the match, but I'd seriously love to see some more Smokin Joe's Multi-Mania! You could save the multi-mania and/or an in-depth preview in the lead up to iconic games like ANZAC, dreamtime, and rivalries like dons vs blues. Maybe this is already your plan, but would be great to see. Would also love to see more collaborations with other KZbinrs/Podcasters/etc (which may help get your name out there to a larger audience). Not sure if maybe you've covered some of this breifly already, but I'd be interested to learn some of the "Absolutely Essendon" lore regarding things like how you two met, how the channel came to be, a studio tour, where the names Smokin Joe and DT come from, how you came to barrack for Essendon, favourite historic moments/games/players, and of course... DT's apparent interest in The Lord of the Rings (as he's referenced LOTR a few times haha). It could make for a fun video for the off-season or bye-week, or perhaps you could do a short Absolutely Essendon lore-realted segment in your regular episodes. People come here for the match reviews, but they stay here for the personalities. You two are an iconic duo. Just a few friendly ideas and suggestions I had for you, but feel free to tell me where I can go shove my suggestions. Would love to see this channel grow and gain the audience it deserves :) Great work and please keep the videos coming! They've become one of my favourite parts of the footy season! That one that mckay could have marked it on his chest, but his smaller opponent moved him out of the way to take a chestark from behind, just shit me. Our workhorses that put in every week are Merrett, Caldwell and Durham. Parish and Shiel (when he gets back in the side) need to be shown highlights of these guys of what the standard should be when it comes to effort. Also our kicking efficiency is sh1thouse, why are we missing basic passes whilst kicking and turning the ball over easily resulting in a opposition inside 50 or worse another goal? Last year 267 goals 236 behinds wasn't great, but 7 teams were less accurate. 7 were more accurate and 3 the same. We were one of the highest teams from having a scoring shot from time in 50, so there were a few rushed shots. Accuracy wasn't really a big issue. Hawthorn, West Coast, North and Essendon had the highest total score against. That was the big issue. Ball wasn't in our forward half enough too. It was a make shift forward line last year. Just take weideman out, less pressure on jones, add duursma, add gresham, a bit more experience and the results of last year indicated that we would be one of the most accurate teams
