Have to say I agree with the call of Sam Mitchell being coach of the year. Hard to admit but what he did with that list was pretty special

Why didnt we have a look at Ivan Solo over goldy
@absolutelyessendon2 күн бұрын
Excellent question. Think it came down to timing (Goldy signed on a day or so before Soldo was delisted) and the possibility that Essendon is preserving late round draft picks to match any early bids for Kako?.

Got a not winning finals question - someone suggested that, apart from Kevin Sheedy, the last Essendon coach to win a final, any final - not just the big one, was Jack Clarke in '68... I've read back through finals results (research skills not guaranteed) and am unable to disprove this... can you help?

This is correct. 56 years and only one finals winning coach.

Essendon, for the longest time, was feared, and had an arrogant, 'bring it on' attitude, and was deserved. The club as a whole strived for premiership glory, over the past 20 years, the club seemed to be living off the success and hard work by strong, defiant Essendon people. This club has been lead, by the wrong type of people. Evans, Tanner, Brasher, Campbell, Woosha, Truck, Dodoro etc, sycophantic, and complicit, all while screaming, 'WE ARE ESSENDON'! Change needed to be made, and Barham is the only one to have the balls to do it. He's made mistakes but, Dave, Vozzo, Scott and Rosa are the faces to bring us back to relevance. It may take time, you can't change 20 years of accepted mediocrity around over night.

Merrett is the only one of our aging players that has draft capital. He would get twice as much as what rioli will get for richmond. Reid wont come to us, he will be looking for success

Going to be a long season next year. Have less hope of winning a game next year, than in the top up season. Every game we won if we are 1% worse, we will lose. Guess not the norf game, but they will be much better next year, while we will be much worse

We share that sentiment but boy do we pray that we will be proven wrong.

@brucejensen30814 күн бұрын
What clubs usually do is trade an earlier pick for a bundle of later picks for draft capital. They were going on about some team using 3 early 40's picks to get someone that would have gone top 5 in the draft. So 3 early third rounders. Pick 28 should be good enough to trade to a team that has a lot of late picks, that want to trade up.

Welcome back Gents. Firstly I would have picked Dyson Heppell's brother to go backwards in the sprint and still beat Ben Hobbs. No guarantees Stringer would kick 40 goals next year no matter which club he plays for given his inconsistent performances and bringing in Membrey wouldn't change much for us I would have thought. I'm going for Brisbane only because of my hatred of the Swans particularly for the rivalry between us and them in recent years and also because I don't want to see that sewer rat Papley win a premiership.

Tim Membrey is another step backwards - sure, he's a solid player. But, play the youth and if it means we are no good we get a high draft pick = more young talent. Building culture is much more important at the moment over ladder position at the Hangar. No more top ups.

About 100 years ago if the team that won the final was not the team that finished on top of the h&a ladder, could be challenged by that team that did finish on top. That was called the Grand Final. If you can get hold of this years GF record (sold in news agencies) there is an interesting story about the 1924 GF and the controversy Essendon players caused, taking bribes etc. We were bad boys back then too!
