I had bought this album on August 7, 2017 just hours hours before my dad passed away. He was hospitalized and i liked sending him music to listen to. I had heard skinny love and For Emma before but never listened to the whole album until that day. I loved and still love it. I like to think the last thing my dad heard from me was Justin Vernon saying, "Your love will be safe with me"

tracktimes: flume - 0:54 lump sum - 3:15 skinny love - 4:54 the wolves - 7:05 blindsided - 9:38 creature fear - 11:39 team - 13:14 for emma - 14:53 re:stacks - 18:13 also fun fact, he made this all on his own, in a cabin in the woods and also hunted for his own food, after some pretty sad life events he needed to deal with, and to do so he made this album, he didnt plan on releasing the album to the public, but his friends encouraged him enough to do it :) also his other albums like "i,i" and "22, A Million" are fantastic as-well so u should give them a listen!!!

If I remember correctly his band broke up, broke up with his gf, and got mono and then went to a cabin for a few months and wrote this masterpiece

'Re: stacks'...gets me. Every time. EVERY time. Just literally the first few bars of guitar is enough.

Same... It's the way in which he comes to terms with that chapter of his life being over. And it's a lot more minimalistic than everything else on the record, just one vocal layer and a guitar. It's really the perfect like postscript after he closes it off on For Emma.

For Emma is quite literally one of the most beautiful songs ever produced. The fact that it’s literally a conversation between two people, and those trumpets in the background just solidify it as the best song on this album, and maybe his discography.

it's crazy you also mentioned listening to this in the winter. I totally agree! I've never heard an album capture a season better than this one, and I think that only compliments the feelings of isolation in the music. I like to hear your thoughts on music, you seem very open-minded. Hope even more subscribers come your way soon! :)

Bon Iver self titled and 22, a million would make for really good reactions aswell. Also, meant to comment this a while back but given how much you liked Jeff Buckley I really think you should give his father, Tim Buckley, a shot. Happy Sad, Lorca, and Starsailor are all fantastic albums 🙏

This was so cool / nostalgic watching a reaction to an album that changed my life.. Now I am re-obsessed with Bon Iver, and I thank you for that
@AquaticDot11 ай бұрын
Great reaction. This album, and really all of their albums, are absolutely beautiful. If you like this kind of vibe, their self-titled is very similar in aesthetic, but more polished. 22 a Million incorporates a lot of electronic elements and is probably their most experimental album, and in my opinion it's their best by a mile.

i think the don’t bother me like complements the what might’ve been lost as a phrase, like “what might’ve been lost don’t bother me” but it’s him tryna convince himself that he doesn’t feel bothered by losing what he thought was the love of his life and much more that he actually lost at that time, while actually working as him begging these thoughts to not bother him… one of my favorite songs of all time and after all these years i simply can’t listen to it without crying

My favourite Bon Iver record and I think his best has to be his second "Bon Iver, Bon Iver", feels like it retains the rawness of the first record but a lot more confident and interesting in instrumentation . Def worth a listen.

I love that you said it just feels so warm.. I love Justin Vernon.. such an amazing musician. Justin made this album alone then posted it on SoundCloud... he create the band Bon Iver after this album took off. The voices are all Justin's in this first album. In an early interview with Justin, he said the album wasn't about breaking up with a girl. Hope you plan on more Bon Iver albums.

Easy 10. There are two albums made by people dumped by their girlfriends who went and isolated in a cabin to write an album that are perfect. The other is Adrianne Lenker - songs. Adrianne Lenker is the lead vocalist of Big Thief, but I think she shines even more brightly on her own. Hit that one up after you listen to the best album ever made, Ys by Joanna Newsom. I love your videos. Keep up the grind Mr. Reliable o7

Fun Fact: He created this album alone in a cabin for a straight year after his girlfriend broke up with him, his band broke off, and losing his job. The vulnerability in the atmosphere, his voice, his lyrics, his production, and melodies make this to personally be one of my favorite albums of all time. sorry to admit that I relate to his words in this project, but this album has helped me a tone to get through it. Recommend his album i,i (heavy kanye influence!)

Funny you mention winter with this album, that’s the season I correlate with his 3rd studio album, 22, a million. I think Bon Iver is a good artist to go in chronological order to hear how his sound and style has progressed through the years since he gets more and more experimental.
