You make me almost cry every time you almost cry. Such a emotionally charged album. Even the instruments sound like they’re crying or shouting in pain like the drums. Great video

So the story behind this album is thus: Justin Vernon's band breaks up, his girlfriend dumps him, and he get sick with mono. He retires to his father's hunting cabin jn the woods, and eventually buys an old creaky guitar off the Internet. At some point during recording, his laptop crashed due to a power outage and he had to start over. Eventually, he leaves the cabin with what were supposed to be demos, but his friends convinced him to release the songs as is. A few edits later, and you have this album.

oh this is making me emotional… what a beautiful and genuinely human story.. those always inspire the best music don’t they!!!🥲 thank you for sharing!!

Small corrections: he states he's the one who left the band and his girlfriend. It wasn't just all bad stuff happening TO him. He said he felt uninspired and stagnant.

I swear, if you listen to a Bon Iver album in a dark room with a candle burning, you can see your entire future and past in the flame... or that's the legend... right?

This is my "in sickness and in health" album. I listen to it when I am sad, melancholic, content. I listen to it on the bus home. I listen to it before I go to bed. I listen to it when I wake up. Each song is a masterpiece. I have so much to say about this album. For instance in wolves where he goes "What might have been lost, don't bother me" would make you think he's over things, and yet it gets louder and louder towards the end - why the compensation? It's almost as if he's lying to himself about it. And of course one of the best closing tracks in the history of indie albums - Re:stacks - about finding hope when hope seems impossible to find. This album is everything. Bon Iver is everything.

gonna have to second the other comment recommending the glow pt. 2 by the microphones, probably my favorite album of all time. it's another one of those highly emotional "go out into the cold and think about life" albums. the artist name might lead you to believe it's a band but it's mainly one dude, though he did get some help (also i saw someone on the giles corey video recommend "songs about leaving" by carissa's wierd, which is probably my second favorite album haha. highly recommended even if it's just on your own time and not a reaction)

you said it right the first time...like Bon EEvir...means "good winter" in French. This album is brilliant. I remember hearing "For Emma" driving home from work one hot summer day in August 2007 on 92.9 WERS. Been a huge fan ever since.

this reaction makes me so happy. to see someone understand this music, when so many people don’t, is incredible. thank you for reacting to this, if i had bon iver requests after this it would be beach baby(my favorite), blood bank, wash. & holocene (this song is ethereal). do your thang ma’am

This is my favourite album of all time. Something about Vernon's solitude is felt so deeply in this record. I'm currently planning on getting my first tattoo based on this album. It's carried with me for so many years because of it's raw emotion conveyed. Amazing video. I totally recommend his other album, 22 A Million. I reacted to it on my channel and it was an absolute blast. Subscribed!

Justin Vernon is such a master at his craft.. also he surrounds himself with so many talented musicians who compliment his music also. He is my favourite musician ever.. even going back to his old college band with Megafaun.. Deyarmand Edison. His collaboration with Aaron Dessner.. Big Red Machine is definitely worth listening to..the second album is a must.. many collaborations with great musician's on there.. Vern is a very special soul. ❤❤

This was one of those special albums for me when it came out, at that time in my life... I don't know, I feel like sometimes albums can be the bookmarks for the seasons of your life. And this is a blast from the past from early youtube but they did a Take Away Show (Tiny Desk before Tiny Desk lol) on Blogothèque that you should check out! Or Justin performing 'I Can't Make You Love Me' at Air Studios. And you should also check out City and Colour - Sometimes, for another singer songwriter. Or Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans. And maybe even Elliott Smith - Either/Or, and Lianne La Havas - Is Your Love Big Enough? lol sry, just so many incredible artists and albums from that time period and genre

Absolutely the same. This came out a few months after my divorce (which was final 17 years ago today, coincidentally.) I was in so much pain and this just broke me. If I listen too closely it puts me back in that bad time period and is almost too much to bear. It’s so raw.

I almost feel guilty suggesting it, but A Crow Looked At Me by Mount Eerie will redefine the way you look at music and mourning. It is of course made by Phil Elverum the same artist behind The Glow Pt. 2 by the Microphones (which I have seen suggested on your channel). If you are easily saddened or depressed by music, just be cautious as it will break you.

Damn it sucks that the rabid Olivia stans won and forced you to take down the Guts video. Anyways, I shall continue to compliment your taste and give you some more suggestions for album reactions. First, if you liked this album you should definitely listen to The Glow Pt. 2 by The Microphones if you haven't already. That album truly hits me in the gut emotionally every time I hear it. I would also suggest It's a Wonderful Life by Sparklehorse as well. Second, I know this band isn't like Bon Iver at all but I've been on a major Dinosaur Jr kick for the past few months and even saw them live a month ago and it was incredible - if you haven't already I would strongly recommend their album "You're Living All Over Me". I really wanna hear what you think of them since sonically they're far more energetic and upbeat than most of the albums you've reacted to so far, although their lyrics can still be pretty dark and depressing at times.
