Bonanza was a weekly event show for me. In about 1973, our family went to Lake Tahoe, and we visited the Ponderosa Ranch, which at that time, was an attraction that had a small admission and guided tour. Remember the staircase in the family home? It led up to nothing more than a wall at the top of the stairs... Typical of Hollywood, just like the Universal Studios back lot; lots of main streets, lots of storefronts, but when you look behind, it's nothing but plywood propped up with 2" x 4"'s, lol...

It kind of takes the "magic" out of it a little right? Would have loved to see it built to include all the upstairs rooms and in the series, Ben added on to it downstairs. There was a kitchen and guest room off the living room, then, there was supposedly 3 more rooms adjacent to the living room that were supposed later add-ons (but that was like the upstairs, not part of that Hollywood set, only a few shots later in the series. Lorne Green had a replica built for he and his wife, with many rooms furnished with items from the original set. Of course they had modern kitchen and actual rooms around the main one. There are some videos of it here on KZbin. I'd love to see that one too, but the land it was built on was disappointing lol

I use to enjoy the Bonanza series until I discovered some little tid bits about Little Joe Cartwright. I was very disappointed to learn that Michael Landon didn't want any actors on the set that he felt were better looking than he was. He definitely didn't want the actor who played his mother's son on the set. That actor made Michael Landon look like chopped liver! LOL!! I also found out that at the age of 17 or 18 Landon was prematurely grey, which made him have to dye his hair quite often! I also found out about a few more little tidbits that I don't care to mention.

We called it Red Mountain known as 'Simi Peak' because when the sunset it becomes red, on the other side is Simi Valley on my side the beautiful Conejo Valley ..all houses now, for as far as the eye can see, every inch of it, so sad for me to see it disappearing as I grew up man did we have fun playing on all those sets, & each time something was filmed we head out with our canteens meager food & raise hell so the honey wagons would feed us, I sat with Christopher George, Lee Van Cleef, Warren Oates, even a really young Dianne Ladd, & Farah Faucet, John Wayne great memories & as a kid you sure got away with a lot of shenanigans, great food by the way, roast beef, BBQ chicken, Ribs, even the water tasted better than any water I had ever had.
