An extremely well-scripted, acted and directed episode. One of Pernell's best performances as Adam. He was truly a highly talented yet underrated actor. Keir Dullea, Otto Kruger, William Zuckert, Kevin Haven and Ron Soble all shone in their supporting roles. Once again, Adam is the brains of Bonanza with a heart to match. The humanity of this series is truly humbling. I especially liked Keir's Bob Jolley facing the truth about his flawed but innocent father and his guilt over his father's lonely, tragic death. A very moving episode that still resonates after more than five decades. That is the true test of any art form, especially drama. Many thanks again for airing this fine episode.

@@hannahcruz1440 Pernell never regretted leaving the show. He went on to an award-winning theater career and a more satisfying and lucrative TV gig as the lead on Trapper John MD. Pernell also was a social and political activist, having marched for civil rights with Dr. King at Selma. He may have foregone making millions of dollars had he stayed on Bonanza, but he led a million-dollar life in values, in my humble opinion. Most important, he did it his way, to paraphrase Paul Anka's song. That's what counts.

@@arlineabdalian8974 Well said! D Dortort admitted he had been too hard on Pernell and hadn't appreciated him enough and he enhanced any part he was given, He left the door open for Pernell to come back but as we know he never did. When Pernell agreed to the part he was promised diversity in the role but it didn't happen, Pernell tried for 3 years to give suggestions to improve his part but they were rejected, he asked to work on a part time basis so he could do other things but D Dortort refused so for the next 3 seasons Pernell gave up trying and saw his contract out . For his own sanity he did not renew his contract and left and the 7th season onwards was not the same and lacking in losing the Adam character. Pernell went on to bigger and greater things and had a lucrative career....What would you do for your own peace of mind and sanity, in todays world mental health is an issue but back then Pernell decided it was for his mental health that he left...I applaud him!
