I’ve been using FF almost since the day it was born. It just keeps getting better and better. When I went to OSH VFR this year, I loaded my departure airport and KOSH into the flight plan page, selected the best altitude for wind and selected fuel prices to be displayed. I then checked for the best fuel prices along my route and chose an airport with the most reasonable fuel price for my first stop (4+30-5+30 hrs of flying). For destination, I chose an airport about 20 min from OSH that had a good fuel price. From past experience with this, one can save $1/gallon. For a 50 gallon upload, the stop 20 minutes short can save you enough to make the stop worthwhile and still leave you with enough fuel to depart for the return journey. ForeFlight makes this planning so easy along with providing a weather source enroute when ADS-B In equipped. The old fashioned way is too tedious and severely lacking in details.

thanks for the video. This is logical, brief, and well laid out. Very cool.

NIce overview of a flight with ForeFlight. I also use (and teach) the use of ForeFlight with my students. It is an excellent tool, and they continually add useful features. A relatively recent addition is the W&B stuff. It’s pretty complete. Also, doing instrument instruction with the aircraft position on the plates (again, depends on version of FF) is excellent for positional awareness. There are so many features with ForeFlight that I can lead seminars once a year for our club and lots of people who use ForeFlight regularly are able to learn new things that they’ve never known about.

Ahh, the Foreflight vs Garmin Pilot debate. :-) I actually started with GP and had used it right through my instrument checkride. I found it very intuitive and easy to use. My favorite features are the split screen and all the items that are available, including notes, checklists, FIS-B Wx, Icing, etc. I also really like that all the charts for the departure airport, destination and alternate are all put into a single folder as part of the flight plan. THEN, a bug was introduced at one point and it no longer worked on my older iPad. So, I got Foreflight and started learning it. Probably my favorite FF items are all pre-flight; the planning and wx briefing is brilliant. In flight I find it a bit more cumbersome to use. Today I have a new iPad and am running both (along with a copy of FlyQ). I still haven't decided which I will eventually settle on, but I keep coming back to FF...

I've tried everything except for WingX and I keep coming back to FF. It is my sincere hope that Boeing (the new owners) don't screw it up!

Can you provide a link to the weight and balance program you reference in the video? Why do you prefer it over the weight and balance in ForeFlight? Thanks, really enjoy your videos!

John- Sure. The App designer also has several different types available. I like how easy it is to configure and use, plus it references the POH performance data. I really like the performance calculations! I found FF W&B clunky and not easy to setup and it was not all that accurate... moreover it really doesn't do performance calculations either.
Scott out of curiosity do you always have a couple of hours worth of fuel with you even on short flights? Interesting software for planning and calculation..

Jan-Arie I plan to land with at least 1 hour of fuel left in the airplane... or more. When flying the Bonanza (I fly a lot) on short hops I typically won't refill until I get down to less than 30 gallons. Fuel gives me options and I am enamored of options!

Still trying to justify the $200-300/year for ForeFlight vs FlightPlan Go which does almost the same for FREE. Especially when you’re only flying VFR

I hear you! I miss the days of $74 a year with FF. I think a lot of this is Boeing's involvement. We've seen how they bolloxed manufacturing.

FlyWire- scott perdue yeah I would tend to agree. And if I typically flying long XC IFR maybe I would pay it. But it’s amazing how much Fltpln Go does for you these days. It even gives plates on maps and georeferencing and taxi. ALL FOR FREE
