Our experts here at The Antique Road Show date your piece between 1905 and 1910, going by the hammered copper and fine original butter caramel satin stain finish. And the sticker on the back also helped us establish that.

My uncle, back in the sixties, bought a huge old house full of arts and crafts furniture with copper details and stained glass doors etc. He took it all out into the garden and set fire to it. I still remember as a kid being horrified and rooting around in the ashes for the hinges and details which I wasn't allowed to keep. He then bought a 'lovely' new formica table and chairs !

Grew up in the Syracuse suburb of Manlius NY..... Stickley is based there, owned by the Audi family (not the VW Audi folks).... my siblings and I inherited a large number of original pieces, in addition to a large number of McKenzie-Childs decorative accessories. Quality and uniqueness

Appraiser should have been clearer about distinguishing the various Stickley furniture operations. Gustav was the big kahuna of the 5 brothers, with L. & J.G. Stickley's company next, with Stickley Bros. bringing up the rear. (I can only afford furniture from the last guys.)

$3,000- $5,000? That's all for Stickley that's over 100 years old? Still has the original finish. I would have said considerably more than that since brand new could cost around $2,000
@sarahwaters82623 жыл бұрын
Brand new in 1905? Surely that's not what you mean because $2,000 is almost $60,000 in today's money.
@joanwood94803 жыл бұрын
@@sarahwaters8262 brand new now would be over $2000. Stickley is highly coveted furniture because of the quality and how it is manufactured. Even in 1905 that piece of furniture would have been very expensive. There are pieces of stickley brand new on the showroom floor that are $5000 and up. Even the simple mantle clock I would like is close to $400. Solid wood, handmade, as is everything that stickley produces. I have been in the stickley store close to their manufacturing plants many times, just to drool and dream

15 years ago she could have gotten 7000. The arts and crafts market crashed. Older people have what they want, younger people want ikea.
@joanwood94803 жыл бұрын
@@sharksport01 its hard for me to wrap my head around people that prefer particle board that will fall apart in 3 yrs compared to solid wood that will last 2-3 lifetimes. Even my 20 something daughter recognizes the value of solid wood.

Hello from the Netherlands, the words "Als ik kan" say's "If I can". But he maybe will be right that the meaning in the US could be "as good I can" because he is the expert and talk's like a British.

In designing and building his furniture, Stickley promoted the ideals of “simplicity, honesty in construction, and truth to materials.” Stickley signed each of his pieces with the Flemish phrase Als Ik Kan centered in a joiner’s compass. Doing a little more digging, I learned that Stickley borrowed the phrase from Jan van Eyck, a 15th century Renaissance artist who signed his paintings with the personal motto Als Ik Kan, which is taken from the Flemish saying “As I can, not as I would.” Als ik kan in dutch means If I can.

$25 in 1969 is worth 175 dollars in 2020. So annualized inflation adjusted return on investment on that is about 6%.
