@hannah748dale3 жыл бұрын
Same. The whole time I’m watching this thinking you’re doing it all wrong 😑 The entire plant is edible, including the bulb. Which in my opinion is the best part! 👍 Pickled ramp BULBS are the best!!
@gravity49503 жыл бұрын
The bulb is very good, but if you dig it up that plant won't regrow the next year, it has an effect on the soil and colony health, and ramps are a vulnerable species. In order to harvest ramps in a sustainable way, please just use the stem and leaves.

Current AT thru hiker here. Ramps all over the south in the spring! Also found some morels. Be VERY CAREFUL NOT to eat Lily of the valley, which has leaves similar to ramps. Just pull up on the ramp, smell, and if it smells like onion/garlic, you're good. If not, don't eat it. If you can't smell, also don't eat it. Because one person on trail almost died doing just that. Happy foraging, be safe and smart!

We call "ramp" "Ail des bois" which translated means: "Garlic of the woods". The leaf tastes very good in a salad. The bulb is great roasted in a pan with a little bit of maple syrup. It is illegal to pick them in Ontario (except on private property) because people tend to just pick them clean (and improperly as well). You should just pick one out of three and leave the root if you can (by snapping below the bulb). Never had it on pizza and unfortunately, probably never will since my source is gone.
