The Bond Experience

Күн бұрын

In 2012 while in London to see the red carpet premiere of SkyFall, I reviewed the Billy Reid Bond Peacoat and this sartorial piece has been a staple in the Bond Community ever since. But the coat has changed over time, and we have been asked by many of you to REVISIT the very piece that put this channel "on the map". In this video we test drive the NEW Billy Reid peacoat in the wild by putting it to the test in the streets of NYC, the snowy tundra of Pennsylvania, and the confines of an Aston Martin Vantage! How does it hold up, and how does it compare to the 2012 version? Watch the video to find out!

When David is not running an advertising and marketing company, his hobby is The Bond Experience which is primarily a video blog where he discusses Bond experiences and the people and brands that help to create those experiences...
The mantra of living like Bond, one moment at a time emanates from a concept of experiencing the joy of collecting small moments in life that add up to amazing journeys and stories....whether it's through style, locations, literature, fitness, and the movies themselves the world of Bond is explored through its people and their stories.
Ultimately though, The Bond Experience channel is a celebration of the James Bond franchise and the many people that form a true community. Our core mission is to create a strong connection in the Bond community amongst all the fans, regardless of interest or demographic.

The Skyfall Peacoat was an immediate icon. The Bond Experience definitely elevated its status. That's why I bought it, because of Mr. Zaritsky's review! Style and Function. Keepin' it real.

Lovely peacoat. I've always had a peacoat and liked this one as soon as I saw it. But I went for a cheaper alternative which is very similar (Charles Tyrwhitt peacoat in part cashmere mix but obviously missing the smaller details like the leather trim). They key difference between this style of peacoat and most peacoats is that this style is from the WW1 era, with the mid height slash hand warmer as well as lower flap pockets. Most peacoats are modelled on the WW2 and later style with a single set of slash hand warmer pockets lower down where the flap pockets used to be. The other thing about the Billy Read (and the CT to some extent but not as much) is the smaller collar.

Your earlier videos on the peacoat sold me on it. But I hunted around and found one over the summer from a 2nd party seller at a discount. After this video, I checked the label and found it’s the new version with nylon. I can’t even imagine how stiff the all wool version is. My tailor said I’ll have this coat for the rest of my life because of how well it is made. I’m not crazy about the pockets and wish it had a inside pocket but that’s the price for no lining. Thanks for the videos!!

David Z out in the wild again - all is right with the world. Well done and informative review - your whole look was nice (sunglasses etc.) showing your Bond brands in use/functional is a testament to their worth/ value. The peacoat looks great - less sure on the addition of nylon. I think breaking in an article of clothing is part of the process/satisfaction of having it mold to oneself. It is the norm with shoes and I have found with my 11 Zegna suits (FYI: they are the makers of Tom Ford suits) the vast majority needed to be broken in (going from comfortable to ultra comfortable) - interestingly my 6 Brioni suits had the comfort of pajamas within a few wears. As for shoes: my 13 pairs of John Lobb were, by far, the easiest to break in, 4 pairs of Gaziano & Girling and 4 pairs of Edward Green being a bit more of an effort - as for Crockett and Jones one pair of shoes was serious time and discomfort but when they finally broke in were nice and one pair of their rough out suede Chelsea boots were an easy break in. Thank you for your time spent on this review - I checked the link to the coat and they are currently sold out - c’est la vie.

It's worth noting that there are a bunch of differences in this version vs my original (pre-2015) model jacket. It's also missing the additional leather square behind the main label (and featured a much larger paper label instead of the smaller shuttle loom label) and the leather quality looks to be much cheaper than on the original. The leather at the back neck also did not have the bias striped embossing. I understand the need for the change in materials, however, it is worth noting that the new version is simply a shell of its former self. All buyers of a true melton wool peacoat understand that stiffness is inherent to receive the best of the moisture and thermal performance, and the heft adds a true feeling of armor. This is likely why Daniel Craig purchased the last one, given how much of a fan he is of stiff leather jackets as well (notable Aero).

David when at Billy Reid have you ever eaten across the street at Fish Cheeks? Terrific Thai food. Give it a try if you haven't yet. I wish Billy Reid would rerelease the peacoat in charcoal. Something I've noticed is that the wool-poly blend has a bit of a sheen to it that I don't recall with the 100% wool felt of the older models.

What is the height and weight of Mr.David? They only have M left of the Bond Peacoat but I couldn't pass it up due to BlackFriday discount. I'm 5'9, 180lb, Athetlic build and currently planning to take myself to 190lb-200lb before a nice cutting phase. Hope Medium fits the bill but seems like they added material to the shoulder/upper back. Crossing my fingers I'm also in CA, so I won't be needing to layer much with it, probably not at all really. Just a basic tshirt or long sleeve

It’s still rather snug in the XL. I’m a 43 chest and my tailor pointed out the shoulders even with the XL will make it difficult to wear a suit coat under it. But I love it so much that it didn’t matter if the coat bunches up some under it. The peacoat is damn near bulletproof lol.

David do you think that Billy Reid would ever do another run of the 100% wool jackets? I'd also like them to reissue the navy and tan Bond peacoat in 90/10 virgin wool/cashmere and the Ike quarter zip they released in 2015.

Awesome review as always David.. I remember watching your review on the first one and boy was I not pumped.. I was having mails with Billy Reid about sizing back then.. but so much time have passed and I never had the chance to get one.. I got myself 2 Bond Jackets.. The Skyfall Barbour and NTTD Rgt.. they are both size Medium.. and they both fit perfect like a glove.. I'll probably try to nail this badboy hopefully this year.. But, the eternal question remains.. should I also go with a size M with this one too.. or should size down to a size Small just like you did...??? Anyways thanks again for the very delicious and informative review. From Istanbul with Love! ❤🥃

I bought my first peacoat from a local army and navy supply. Moving to NYC I often scoured various thrift shops for peacoats. I have not had the opportunity to see the Bond peacoats in person. Granted James Bond would not wear the regulation peacoat of surplus wool. These renditions are a bit too glam for me. Yuppies, Genx, Millennial homogenized.
