I saved my older brother from drowning on my birthday 05/01/2020 he and I were in the deep end of a swimming pool my brother isn’t a good swimmer so he ran out of breathe underwater so I decided to dive into the pool even though there was a no diving sign unless there’s an emergency and I grabbed my brother and carried him to the ladder so he could breath to keep swimming carefully

Henestly though, I am areally strong swimmer and have had to swim 1k freestyle non stop, though.... Still, all you need is a bad cramp at in swirl and you are in trouble. Respect the ocean, respect the lifeguards

You can be the strongest swimmer in the world you aren't going to win a fight against a rip >.> Locals and those used to surf conditions know how to navigate out of them usually with minimal effort ergo swim parallel to the beach until you feel the water pushing you back in and then by swimming diagonally back to shore

My guess is because they are "harsher" or more noticeable. Say you're out in the water and look up for the flags, i reckon they are waay more noticeable

During the war, red and yellow flags were used to indicate a safety zone or safe area. It sort of just stuck :)

I grew up in Newcastle NSW (Newie). I learned to swim at age 5 thanks to my Dad. I spent EVERY summer weekend on the beach catching waves. Watching these heroes makes me proud to be an Aussie surfer. If you come to Bondi, please LEARN TO SWIM, and swim between the flags. We love our country and its beaches. We hope you do too.

Australians definitely have a great sense of humor. Down to earth and act like everyone is a best friend. Really great to see. Only downside is the amount of beach goers who refuse to listen to the lifeguards. That has got to get truly frustrating at times.

Nicola is a machine ! Not one for diplomacy , imagine her (or H ) dealing with thieves or worse :sex pests ? I would love to see that . Somehow I see Kerrbox or Harry's saying " No I'll deal with this , you stay in the tower Nic' (or H ) " to save the ensuing bloodbath that may happen . Also , makes sense we always see the youngest fittest tallest fastest runners doing for those jobs though. Surely the 'diplomacy skills ' or lack thereof play a part in these decisions but we never see that part . I would love to see one where all the other boys are busy and it was left to Nicola or H to deal with thieves or perverts . Seriously.

Bondi lifeguards.. ROCK! You guys are just so incredibly amazing with what you do. Always keeping an eye out for those on the verge of drowning. What a feat! Thousands of people and just a handful of you guys.. I wish we have lifeguards at beaches in Malaysia. Most Malaysians are not good swimmers. Many never knew how to swim and ended up drowning in waterfalls, lakes, abandoned tin mines, rivers, even during floods.
