I think that when she got cut with her putting pressure on the cut as soon as she did help stop some of the blood flow as the lifeguard did say that there wasn't a lot of blood which was rare for how big the cut was. while it say that she did need some type of surgery it did look like she got cut in maybe the more fleshy part of the thigh and maybe got more flesh than blood vessals which i know from experience that area does look bad but it more of a sliced off skin like injury that looks really bad but it's more of just looks worse than it is. So glad that she is okay

As a lifeguard, these videos help me so much when reviewing safety protocols and procedures. I’ve thankfully never had to treat anything more than a deep cut on a patron, but these videos help me feel better and more aware of what to do and how to do things when the time comes. Thank you Bondi Lifeguards!

A recent study on epinephrine auto injectors found that the majority of them are still over 90% effective up to 5 years past their date. That doesnt mean keep them forever but if you get in trouble and its all you have, USE IT. And use it as soon as severe symptoms start. Light headed feeling, throat/mouth swelling, its ok to use. It wont hurt you but your reaction could. Be safe, everyone.

We were always told, if an epipen is expired, as long as the fluid inside is still clear (not milky or anything) it should still work as it should! Obviously get new ones, but if it’s an emergency, use it as long as the fluid inside is clear (there is a little window you can look through).
@TheWheelBry4 ай бұрын
It's also best to hold it in for 10 seconds (he did in the video 😊) because although for the epipen brand you only need 3 seconds, there are other brands of adrenaline auto injector. A Jext pen needs 10 seconds and an emerade pen needs 5 seconds. You may not be familiar with which one the person has. But the instructions are always on the pen

The girl with the allergic reaction as someone who has allergies that anaphylactic That was cross-contamination. She probably didn't tell the restaurant that she's allergic to not thinking well. I'm just having a burger and burgers don't have nuts on them. You always have to tell the kitchen. Even if what you're ordering doesn't have what you're allergic to on it. So they know to be extra careful with your food. No shame it is very easy to forget. Especially when you're on vacation.

Jules reminds me of a manager I had in college. She was authoritative when she needed to be but was such a Mom to all of her employees. I remember once after a particularly rough night i broke down crying in her arms so hard I was shaking. Staci, the manager, from that night forward insisted that I tell her if I was ever having a mental breakdown at work so we could talk it out. I watch Jules when I particularly miss Staci's second-mother-to-me love.

For the spinal injury trying to move her straight when she was on the surfboard was incredibly dangerous especially the pulling around her head (by moving it upwards and moving the body seperatly). The moment she arrived on rhe beach a collar or blocks should have been placed and if there weren't any better to leave her lying that way until the ambulance arrives. You can google the best grip to keep a neck stable and it's not only holding her head. I get that they did the best they could but for other people watching, don't do that.
@deathbycheese8505 ай бұрын
And when strapping the patient onto a stretcher, you should start around the abdomen, not the head, incase the body moves, causing further damage, even with a collar on. Edit: they were probably improvising.

reminder!!! just because an epipen is expired, it doesn’t mean it’ll do you more harm than good. when they expire, it’s just less likely to work. it’s not like the contents of the epipen will hurt you (but it is good to stay up to date on them becayse ofc when they expire it won’t work as effectively- but also an expired epipen is better than no epipen!!!!)

👩🎤 What happens if you give an eppy pen shot and it’s not an anaphylactic event.??? What happens to the patient.???
@somecoolobscurebandreferen1673 ай бұрын
Epi-pens are full of epinephrine (aka adrenaline), thus the name, they temporarily reduce the effects of anaphylactic shock (mainly the narrowing of airways and the drop in blood pressure) enough that they can be taken to the hospital. Adrenaline is a normal hormone produced by our bodies responsible for the majority of the physical part of fight or flight, so it would be the same as getting a shot of straight adrenaline. Accidental epi-pen injections usually occur when someone stabs their thumb by having the pen backwards, since anaphylactic shock is pretty easy to recognize, and usually just causes your heart rate to speed up and your blood pressure to increase, but in RARE worst-case scenarios can lead to tissue death since the blood vessels contract and can staunch blood flow. Epi-pens are injected in the thigh, so the risk of the blood vessels being super constricted to the point of restricting blood flow there are low. TL;DR: they might feel a little gross at worst unless they have other health issues. It's basically fight or flight without your brain involved. Better safe than sorry.

Most beaches in Australia in population areas have a surf club whose members are volunteers. Most start out as nippers (juniors) training Saturday or Sunday Mornings from about 5 years of age. They patrol the beaches on a roster and compete against other surf clubs in surf competitions. Only very large population areas have professional lifeguards paid for by the local council like at Bondi.

What are y’all doing or even thinking?! Someone cuts themselves that badly, you put a tourniquet (actual tourniquet, or even a belt) on the leg and tie it above the cut to stop her from bleeding to death. How do you not know this?!
@GodschildCC2 ай бұрын
Girly I think you’re the uneducated one. You apply a tourniquet mid thigh for below the joint. The cut was on the upper thigh as well as the mid thigh so that wouldn’t work. Even if it did, they said that the bleeding wasn’t that significant and therefore a tourniquet would injure the flesh because that’s what it does if it’s proper tight for no reason. Would do much more harm then good
