The Samoyed is a breed of dog that takes its name from the Samoyedic peoples of Siberia. These nomadic reindeer herders bred the fluffy white dogs to help with the herding, and to pull sleds when they moved. Samoyeds have a dense, double layer coat. The topcoat contains long, coarse, and straight guard hairs, which appear white but have a hint of silver coloring. The undercoat is typically shed heavily once or twice a year, and this seasonal process is sometimes referred to as "blowing coat". Their coat needs to be brushed daily while shedding. Samoyeds' friendly disposition makes them poor guard dogs; an aggressive Samoyed is rare. With their tendency to bark, however, they can be diligent watch dogs, barking whenever their territory is encroached. Samoyeds are excellent companions, especially for small children or even other dogs, and they remain playful till old age. They live up to 15 years.

My dogs me and my family around all time time, and they love to play! They're so smart that they know when you're about to leave the house, so we have to sneak out if we're going out, because they hate it when you leave them alone. They are stubborn, its true - they know commands, but they'll do it when they feel like it haha - but they love you so so much. They love to cuddle, and love to be a family member. I'd bring 2 dogs in personally because I feel like they'll be bored by themselves if left alone. They are so gentle, which makes them okay to be brought up with another breed in my opinion. This is a thing with all sled dogs - they are difficult but not impossible to train, we had a Samoyed who was a Crufts champion, it's really very much a case of you get out what you put in. If your willing to put in the time, then you'll wind up with a very impressive, very obedient Sammie. Because the difficult in training them is balanced out by their eagerness to please.

Actually Samoyeds can do reasonably well in hot climates. their fur is a double undercoat which acts an insulation against heat. Their white fur also helps repel sun pretty well. In addition, the way their fur works is it causes any wind to run through their fur in a way that helps cool them. Sure they thrive in the cold, but they can be quite happy in a warmer climate too

Yeti and I love your channel. Great advice for a Samoyed owner. My nephew is allergic to dogs and his allergies come out in full force whenever he's around Yeti and other family Samoyeds. Due to all the epic shedding and the fact that everything - dust, weeds, pollen, etc., gets trapped in their fur, it means, they are not allergy-free.

A friend of mine is allergic to dogs and she sneezes a lot when she spends time with my Samoyed (although she doesn't even touch him), so this one is not hypoallergic. And I brush him every day. Once a week isn't enough, parts of the undercoat will be totally knotted by then.

I've owned 5, Nicky, Strider, Crystal, Aurora, and Destiny. I bought my first pair many years ago and they lived to be 13 and 14 years. When their time was up I bought the second pair. Aurora was 16 when she passed but I lost Crystal to a immune disease when she was 8. I replaced her with Destiny and decided that she would be my last dog, but I've changed my mind. Destiny passed in Aug and I really miss having a dog around the house so I'm beginning to look for another Sammy pup. These are great dogs but do require a lot of grooming and can have health issues. Nicky and Destiny both were diabetic and required daily insulin injections.

There's 2 things you should know: 1) You can get pet shampoos which remove the dander (which is what most people are allergic to). 2) Non-Fatal Allergies are very much like a disease, it's possible to build up immunity - via controlled exposure.

sammies are only hypoallergenic because their fur is so dense that it holds in the dander, which is why they're also odorless. when shedding season comes all that dander is going to be released. Edit:spelling

Sunshine Holley that's not how it works. Sammie produce just as much dander as other breeds but their under coat holds it in. That's why breeds that hardly shed or that don't shed are hypo allergenic. When the under coat is blown THEN the dander is released.

Then I suppose all the websites, articles, and books I've read didn't know what they were talking about. I've done 2 years of research and reading and talking to breeders to make sure a Samoyed is the right fit for my family. So no offense to you, but you're the only person I've ever seen say that. Not saying your wrong, but surely you can see where it would be difficult to believe what one person says out of hundreds of articles. However, I'm all about learning the most I can, so I'll do a little more research. We're supposed to get a Samoyed next spring and my husband is allergic. I was going to buy a groomers dryer and blow the coat out outside.

Samoyeds have an undercoat, which protects them from the heat and the cold. In Sibiria, where samoyeds are from, it can also reach temperatures up to 40 Celsius, which is really hot. Only at high temperatures you have to entertain your dog at home and take longer walks in the evening when it cools down.

My girlfriend has samoyed at our house. He is so adorable and cuteeee :) But Im having a super bad alergy of Samoyed Hair. Its sheeds a lot. Even his hair can be everywhere. 1. Samoyed shreeds a lot. 2. Even only the fur that stick on my clothes, can make me cough for hours 3. Everytime i bring him inside our room, i will coughing untill my chest hurt Suggestion 1. Please make sure you check the samoyed fur, bring them with you for 7-10days 2. If you alergic, then samoyed not fit you 3. Check which alergan that makes you alergic. Is it the fur? Saliva? Or dan?

Wendy Here im alergic with : 1. FUR 2. Saliva in Fur 80% doctor said its fur. Ur boyfriend should test with samoyed for a month. My alergic came after 10days ish. Trust me, i felt horrible 1. Coughing for hours 2. My chest hurt badly Before you buy samoyed, u should ask ur boyfriend stay with samoyed for 10days

it can work if you have a shit tone of air conditioning and shade. just be sure to not shave them and give them plenty of water. but it isn't the best place for one to live, but it can work

A Samoyed will expect you (the human) to know what you want. You must know what rules you want to enforce and then enforce them. You must be consistent. Many people don't know what rules they want. Even if you get a trained dog, if you don't know what you want to enforce, if you are inconsistent... then the training will all be for naught.
