The Pomeranian (often known as a Pom or Pom Pom) is a breed of dog of the Spitz type, named for the Pomerania region in Central Europe. Classed as a toy dog breed because of its small size, the Pomeranian is descended from the larger Spitz type dogs, specifically the German Spitz. They are compact but sturdy dogs with an abundant textured coat and a highly plumed tail set high and flat. The top coat forms a ruff of fur on the neck, which Poms are well known for. They also have a fringe of feathery hair on the hindquarters. The Pomeranian comes in the widest variety of colors of any dog breed, including white, black, brown, red, orange, cream, blue, sable, black and tan, brown and tan, spotted, brindle, plus combinations of those colors. Pomeranians have a thick double coat, and while grooming is not difficult, breeders recommend that it be done daily to maintain the quality of the coat, and because of its thickness and the constant shedding, trimming is suggested every 1-2 months. Pomeranians are typically a very friendly, playful and lively breed of dogs. The life expectancy of a Pomeranian is 12 to 16 years.

I have two Pomeranians one at the beginning and a mom breeder Pomeranian. Trained them easy by having ten dogs she learned from routine walks. Although the hair is different from each one. As the personalities. Teeth need cleaning as mine is getting tommorow to be the first time. I also have pomchi pups and Pomeranian females mark like a male dog.

I love my pomeranians but they are NOT accessories. If youre planning on getting one please do a lot of research on the breed especially on obediance training/socialization. If you raise a pomeranian up as a spoiled brat it will grow up into a spoiled yappy/biting brat. I'm tired of seeing/hearing about good pomeranians go bad because the owner doesnt know what the heck they're doing. If you can't handle it please go get yourself a stuff animal.

I'm actually a guy with a Pom as well, it was my sisters but she gave him to me after 2 weeks of adopting it to go off for her studies. The thing that pisses me off is where I live guys are known to have pit bulls and Rottweilers and when you see a guy walking a smaller dog people usually laugh. I mean I don't mind but it's annoying because a Pom is probably know as a "girl" dog which is dumb

For anyone thinking of getting a pom as an accessory.... DON’T. It’s a dog not a new purse. Because people get dogs to show off but forget the responsibility and then the pet ends up in the shelter. Poms are such sweet doggies tho I love mine!

+enjoy5566 actually no, research before you speak please. They have a double coat. The under and coarser coat is basically insulation and helps them cool down. You should not shave them or cut their hair too short or it may never grow back the same.

My Tobias the Pom lived to be over 16, and was very healthy and active right up until the last couple days of his life. He died in his sleep at home, and I miss him every day even after almost 2 years since he went to be with Jesus. Dang it, I got something in my eyes :'( Poms are the best.

My mom has a pomeranian and she trained it horribly carrying him around, spoiling, and giving love when he needs discipline....if you get this dog train it right off the bat or else they will be extremely annoying and bark at everything literally everything

Simon Petkov You probably got your Pomeranian by now, but if you're still clueless on how to train your dog, I'd look to a dog training school or a dog behaviorist. I know that my brother and his wife have all taken their dogs to dog school and they've really learned how to be obedient. They were taken at a young age, though, so I don't know if yours would be considered too old? You can always check.

This is extremely accurate!!! I have a miniature Pomeranian and she’s the cutest and sweetest thing alive!!!!! She’s extremely intelligent, at an early age I brought her to dog training classes and watched videos on how to train a dog and it did wonders. She’s very well behaved. I know of another pom that wasn’t trained properly and he’s very annoying to be around

absolutely! If you do not train your pom, or any dog really, they will be a holy living terror. Kinda like a child I suppose. Train them to mind, and be respectful with an even hand. Reward them when they deserve to be rewarded. Punish them, like scolding them sanely, and if needs be put them in time out in their kennel/room.

I have a pomeranian and I love him but he is very demanding. It's true that he thinks he's a big dog and I have to be careful with him when we're walking. He likes to start fights with big dogs. He barks A LOT, no matter what I seem to do. His hair grows very quickly. Despite all that, he is a great dog.

mittie rowland I had one Pomeranian but I felt bad for her to be the only dog, so I bought her a Pomeranian, man if you think you're doggie is happy now, you're going to feel guilty after you see your dog with another pup, two does double your vet bills, but as caring for them two is as easy as one, after seeing my dog with her puppy I will never own just one.

The cream one at 0.52 oooohhhhh flooooooofffffyyyy! The epitome of blond floof. I am in love. Cute, intelligent, and I love the sass when they challenge a bigger dog. I don't like them clipped too much though, I think it spoils their natural beautiful appearance and I bet it's not good for the dog, especially if it's cold, they are only little, they'd shiver unless they had a dog coat. Seems more sensible to bathe them and give them a regular brush.

I'm seriously considering getting a pomeranian I'm researching as much as possible about the breed and so far I see that they require a lot of grooming and attention which I could totally give it I'm at home all day and want company. I have two.Yes,they need grooming,I do mine myself.I do them twice a week.They are very yappy,make great guard dogs.And are lazy at potty training,but they are great little dogs.They are fabulous dogs,Little energy bundles.OH and in the 7 years I have had them,they have never got sick,tough little little things.

Elii mine loves to chew on everything , furniture wires etc etc and yes harder to train but the trick is to if you have to take the dog for a walk More often leaves training mats at night and if he she does a poo or pee reward them with a treat so the dog will know hey if I do that they will get a tasty treat. mine don't bark that often but if your knocking at the door she will bark . also some have tempers and say you shouldn't get one if you have kids but my pomeranion loves kids so much so I guess everything depends but I have to say they are one of the best and sweetest things ever..

I used to breed Samoyeds and owned 3. Now I have a pom and I adore her. She only barks a lot when she lays by the front glass door and someone walks by. She is 1 year old and she still isn't pee paper trained. That's the only thing that is frustrating.
