These people need to be educated on the dangers of the outdoors for a small animal like a cat or small dog. Towards the end she was so weak, she had to be carried to her litter box. She was so embarrassed by this, but we comforted and reassured her. We had her an extra three months after diagnosis, because our wonderful vet gave us powerful pain meds. Said we would know when it was time to let her go, and we did. I comforted, and was with her to the very end. And God bless you for doing exactly the same thing. Because they know and are scared. That's not the point I think. Keep INDOOR cats IN. You can't force a cat that was raised indoors outside, they could die. to have an outdoor cat is entirely situational, for example, if you adopt an alley cat or stray, one that was born and raised on the street.
@LoveLaw
@LoveLaw 4 жыл бұрын
I agree. Unless there is a way to have your cat in your yard without them escaping into the suburbs, they shouldn’t have that option. Our cats have a small yard that we cordoned off for them so they can’t get out of it. They love it so much, but if that was not the case I would never let my cats just roam freely to go into the street.

This is why I'm such a huge advocate for keeping cats indoors.. if she had been indoors, this never would have happened. She never would have been hit, never would they have had to worry that their cat was smarter than a car. It took me losing two cats to hit and runs for me to realize that yes.. though I want them to enjoy themselves, to have enriched lives, it's not worth putting them at such a high risk of pain and death to have it. Especially living near any roads. I still take mine outside, with a harness however. That way I know they won't play chicken with a car, or get into a fight with another cat/get into a fight with a stray dog ect. I rather them life a long, happy life full of love, than one that can end so short and without warning and with so much distress...

I learned my lesson many years ago I had a beautiful cat that loved going outside and then would come in. He was mostly an indoor cat. Little Boy was his name, unfortunately I went out to get him to bring him back into the house and I found him on the side of my street in front of my house. He was hit by a car. His face was crushed on his left side of his face. He did not make it. I was devastated. After my unfortunate experience with him. Every cat I have had in the last few years have been an Indoor cat. They sit in the window and look out and that's as close as they get to the outside world. The pain of losing Little Boy this way was just heartbreaking.

I lost my little boy, Joesph, when he was 8. He was also hit by a car and they left him on the road. someone who lived on my block found him and moved him onto the sidewalk and told my family. I was devastated. His mother was depressed and often got sick after his death, eventually dying due to illness 1 and a half years after his death. They were very close. This video made me cry because I wanted Bluebell to survive. I'm not sure what the quality of life would be for bluebell if they decided to bring her home and take care of her as a special needs cat, I know that some paralyzed cats can be fine, but I'm not sure with a break like that in the middle of her back. I cried because this made me think of my baby and reminded me how much I wanted to save him and miss him. I have a picture of him framed always. But mostly, I feel so mournful for the loss of Bluebell's life... she was only 2...

Nekorini. Believe ME that I csn so well relate to what you're saying. I had a burmese blue cat name of chunky. The vet who regularly did his checkups shots,and even did his thyroid operation, adored chunky as if he were his own cat. Chunky did live to a good age, but just towards the end of his life, chunky became terminally ill,and a date was fixed to gently put him to sleep. I put him in his cage and made sure he was extra comfortable, and went to the surgery. My ONE overriding thought was,PLEASE don't let it be Olly( chunky's main vet) on duty today. I got into the waiting room and OFCOURSE it WAS Olly on duty. I was really worried about this,cos I knew that this would devastate him having to put his favourite patient to sleep, and he'd probably not be in a fit state to work sensibly for the rest of the day. We took chunky into the consulting room, and lo and behold, in opening up the cage, it was discovered that chunky had died en route to the surgery, so no need for euthanasia. Olly was upset but was anle to accept it as he didn't have to do the hated and dreaded deed. This bondi vet is another such sensitive and caring vet. They're like gold dust.

But the most important thing that I wanted to say is please dear owners don't leave your pet in its final moments alone, don't go!!! As much as it painful and unberebal to see your beloved pet drift away, you are the only one they have. Think about how scared and confused they are in that state, lying there alone, helpless and terrified while breathing their last breath. Your presence there is so important.... let them be with you, their loved ones, so they feel safe and loved at there final moments. While they are a part of our life, we are their whole life!!!!

Bluebell's death really stabbed at my heart. A few years ago, we suddenly had to say goodbye to Umbra, who was "a little speck of a thing" as mom put it, a tiny thing, full of love and a huge personality. She suffered a "saddle thrombus", and there was nothing that could be done, it was already killing her. We had no idea she and her brother had heart disease One morning, I woke to mom calling for me, and all I heard was that something was wrong with Umbra and she couldn't move her back legs. She made little cries all the way to the little (but more comfortable) clinic we go to for our general stuff (Pen gets treated at the closer one because it has the right stuff for the bigger tests, but even though it's closer everything takes longer to get appointments done), and I think my heart already knew I'd have to say goodbye to her. Her condition quickly got worse, we spent a little bit more time with her and the doc put a warmer thing on her to help her be more comfortable as well as gave her some anesthetics, and then left us alone for a little while. I was actually relieved when they came back, because Umbra had starting doing these gasping motions, and because putting her down was inevitable I just wanted it done before she became too uncomfortable, so I became really anxious when I saw her struggle, and when she went I was thankful it was over. We took her body home, because we wanted to make sure Pen would know she's dead. I didn't have the heart to bury her myself, I had to have mom do it. Then, then year's Christmas came around, and I received a little ornament with a photo of her sent by the clinic. It has been months, but they hadn't forgotten, and it was a bittersweet surprise. I'm grateful for how kind they were with the whole thing. It's weird, when my cat Dustin died in 2016, who I had since I was 10 and who managed to just hang on until I got out of the toughest time of my life (high school senior year), it was really hard and it was a while before I was even able to recover emotionally enough to get my own cat(s) again. But, somehow Umbra's death is sadder to me, despite not knowing her nearly as long. Because when Dustin died, he was ready to go. Umbra was young, very close to her brother, and it just wasn't fair. I miss you, little gorl. Your brother is still not very smart, but he's been in good spirits.

The average life expectancy of an outdoor cat is 2-5 years, while indoor cats can live around 17 years, over a decade longer on average. Keep your cats inside or, if they do go outside, in a safe area or on a leash.

Spectral Umbra it can also depend on how well you know your cat. I had two cats, twin brothers named Darcy and Drake. Darcy was a bit on the impaired side, and unfortunately got out one night and was hit and killed by a car before we could find him. Drake was indoor/outdoor but much much smarter, and lived to 18, we ended up having to unfortunately put him to sleep this past May when he stopped eating and the vet noticed he was breathing heavily. They x-rayed him and found a mass on his kidney and fluid in his lungs. Drake knew better than to go in the road, I pretty much never saw him in it and whenever I did it was our little subdivision that has little to no traffic only. He also always stayed around the house.

It's a bit exaggerated to say 17 years. Most will not live that long, it's fairly uncommon. However, you are correct that outdoor cats die MUCH sooner than indoor ones on average! We have an outdoor cat a few doors down and I'm so sad that the owners refuse to listen and keep it indoors. They say it's happy outside and that's true, it seems very happy, but 1) you can't be happy if you end up dead and 2) it never would've known otherwise had they not allowed it to! My cat might be very pleased if she lived outside, but she doesn't know that it was ever possible, so she's happy inside. The neighbors and I hate knowing this kitty probably won't live a long life like it otherwise could.

DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET TO DIE ALONE! There is an article written by a veterinarian that states how important it is that you are by their side when the end comes. Even without that article, you should know they need that familiar face when the end comes. This makes me so sad and angry. Besides that having been an avoidable tragedy, a pet should never go in an unfamiliar place without a face they know. In bluebells case, thankfully, the staff was there and she may have felt them to be familiar but my god.... that is so cold to just walk away. Unacceptable.

But if you live in the middle of a big city like me - or the family of poor Bluebell - I just don't understand how you can let your cats outside unsupervised. Mine for sure doesn't get outside (and luckily doesn't want to, either) except for my screened in balcony. It's enough for you to blame them for her death when the owner already blames herself for her pet's death and her children not knowing what was going on. Just please be more sensitive to the family next time, and don't blame them.

I hope they don't get another cat, after losing two because of their negligence. Sad, RIP Bluebell!

Kara Taylor Two cats don’t just ‘escape’. Perhaps you should consider thinking before attacking someone you don’t agree with.

I'm so disappointed that we didn't get to say goodbye to Bluebell before she had to be put down. RIP sweet little kitty. Cats need to be kept inside for their protection. So sad, so sad. This didn't need to happen.

The look on Bluebells face even looks distressed and scared, and her sad mews broke my heart. The poor baby.

So first the family decided to put the cat down, and to make it even worse they aren't even staying to comfort her when she is in her last moments of life, that makes me so freaking mad, I get that it's painful to watch your pet be put down but your pet is panicked and has no idea what is going on, they look for you cause their scared and want comfort from the person they trust most. I'm sorry I'm just so mad

So sorry for Bluebell. It's so hard to make the right decision for our loved cats, but we have to be strong and make the best choice for them. She is and angel now and she is watching over you and waiting to greet you at the Rainbow Bridge! Bless you Bluebell!!

My heart goes out to Chris and the other vets. They are under so much pressure and at the same time being filmed. If animals could talk, their job would be a lot easier. I love Bondi vet and it inspires me. Love you guys!! ♥️♥️🇦🇺🇦🇺♥️♥️
