I lived through a cat who was barely stitched together. We kept her in an emptied closet, and hung out with her daily. We couldn't let her jump. Or she could die. So we kept her in a closet and took turns sitting with her. It was a nightmare. She howled all night, when we attempted to sleep. But she survived. We have to be careful about her diet, but she's lived many years since. It's traumatic but well worth the love we've had since

I had a cat like Jerry. Sadly, I had to rehome her because of health issues I am having myself. She’s doing so much better on the medication that our vet prescribed. My best friend from high school is caring for her now. I cried all night the night she left. I just can’t match the energy that she needs. She’s a very high energy cat. MS sucks.

I had a beautiful belgian malinois who was like Jerry. I tried for a month everything I could think of to help her panic attacks when I'd leave but I was missing so many classes and she wasn't getting any better. She couldn't be more than a foot away from me, if I was walking her with a friend she couldn't be on the other side of them she had to stand right next to me. She was hurting herself when I'd leave, throwing herself against the walls, wetting herself in fear, and learned how to open my apartment door and was running free on the floor of my building when I left one day. The shelter helped me find a better fit and took her back, I have no idea where she is right now and I worry and miss her everyday. It is one of the hardest decisions I've had to make, and I assume for you too. But you did the right thing. I know we did the right thing.

@kimmarievan-ever65992 жыл бұрын
Oh Robin that would have made me lose the sandwich for definite.. I have a really bad gag reflex..anything like that..or bad smells..or sometimes just the thought and I'm gagging away with great difficulty stopping until I've been sick .. its very annoying and embarrassing to be honest. .people think its funny but it can cause embarrassment if I'm out..if my mouth is dry that sets me off to so always have to have some water with me..its a bloody nightmare when I'm at the dentist..having impressions taken can take up to 5 go's because having all that contraption in my mouth and I'm gagging all the time and the impression stuff has hardened. Luckily my dentist is very patient and sympathetic. But I'm the worst she has known..! So that pus like cheese although it sounded lovely would definitely be a no no for me..I'm 63. So no amount of specific breathing..hypnosis... etc has ever helped me..🤢🤬

I have a cockapoo and she has a similar separation anxiety issue. Hers isn’t quite as bad, but she does howl if she is left home sans human. We even have 2 other dogs that stay with her when we go out, but she couldn’t care less about them. The only thing we’ve found that helps is having a furbo. When she starts to howl, it alerts us and we then open the app and talk to her through it as well as toss her treats. Another thing we do is each (my husband and I) leave her a tshirt we have slept in for a few nights. Dogs have a very different sense of time than we humans do and they sense time based on how strong our scent is in the house. So if you can give them something that is soaked (not literally) in our scent, they don’t feel like we’ve been gone forever. The last thing we do is ignore her for 30 minutes, or so, before we leave. We do not make a big fuss about leaving. We just leave and then when we come home, we wait til she has calmed down and then we give her attention. You can practice coming and going and being calm in short increments at a time until you can build up to your normal amount of time you are away from the home.
@oiseaufeu2 жыл бұрын
I did the shirt thing with my lab mix dog. Though, I didn't get a furbo to watch her and the only things she did was to chew a few charging cables and some of our shoes. After that, the only thing she would do would be picking my mom's shoe and sleep with it. She never howled when we left her in her crate or when we leave her in the house alone.

In one of the segments, Blacktown Animal Shelter was mentioned. Out of curiosity, I browsed their website looking at dogs for adoption and, with the exception of about three or four other breeds, the remaining four pages of dogs listed for adoption consisted of Am-Staff and Rottweilers. I cannot understand why people will acquire these breeds, play with them as puppies and then surrender them when they grow to adulthood.

Every episode, I laugh and I cry; sometimes the crying is relief and joy in a recovery, and sometimes the tears are for a loss, no matter how devoted and dedicated both the vets and owners' care is. I've had many non human family members growing up...one of the good things in my childhood, filled with dogs, mice, rabbits, and the never ending array of critters brought home by both us kids but mostly my dad, on the way home from graveyard shift, that needed nursing back to health...of many varieties, and as an adult I have had many, many cats, as well as gerbils and fish/eels. And I've had to make too many life decisions, and an ocean of tears have found their way down my cheeks. I've had to make decisions because I couldn't afford the surgery needed, and no one wanted to work with me...and the guilt was a heavy burden. Still is, with the memories. I wish I'd had vets like these, back then.
@kellyruddock88222 жыл бұрын
i know how you feel. growing up i had every animal that most people see only on a plate for a pet. and normal pets as well, turtles, fish, birds, half a dozen various rodents. its hard to find a vet that is in it for the money. DR JEFF rocky mountain vet, makes me want to move to Denver so i can afford to treat my critters. it sucks when you dont have a very compassionate vet.these vets are awesome.
@TheJudiBambiPurrsParadox2 жыл бұрын
@@kellyruddock8822 ..exactly! I haven't watched Jeff since he beat cancer, but loved his compassion. It seems most American vets ARE in it for the money more than the animals and their families who love them. Many never actually direct their speech to the animals at all...and THEY are their patients! I love how Chris and Scott greet their actual patients that they know, first...before they greet the family of their patient. They often do that, and I've never had one talk to the patient, before talking to me. I wish I had. I talk to my pets all the time, and always have. NONE come to your home if you don't drive and can't get to the clinic, either. EVER. Unless they are a mobile vet, and they cost even more than a stationary vet. As if people on fixed incomes can afford a regular vet visit to start with. Plus, most American vets tell people if you can't afford to put away a bit of money for emergencies with your pet...like a surgery or/and several tests' worth of money...{which can run into a thousand dollars easily} then you shouldn't have one. THAT is absurd, because those of us who are on tight budgets make sure we can afford the food/litter/leashes/collars/ID/shots/toys/etc. before we buy our own food...and give the love and time to our four legged family members. THESE vets know that, and are just happy someone who loves them are taking care of them...and want to help their clients do that. Even when unexpected expenses crop up. I understand it costs just to run a vet clinic, but for some, American vets should be a bit more open to unconventional ways to pay an unexpected big bill...like bartering, or maybe helping do volunteer work for the vet or associates, or fostering some critters they need to find homes for....or any number of options when a client who is low income needs serious medical help with a beloved family member with 4 legs.

I didn't skim the comments to much so I don't know if this has already been put out there, but would it not be better if that wire fence be replaced with a solid fence? I'm not sure what the regulations are and I'm sure cost is also a factor but.. the way they were talking is that this isn't a first time scenario with the baby kangaroos. Would it not be "safer" to put a solid fence up "Wood fence".
