So to sum it up, train with low impact and intensity until the pain fades. Be it weeks, months, push fluid in and out of the area.

How are you progressing? I had meniscus surgery last week and the xray/MRI they showed me in pre-op showed a bone bruise from where the meniscus was moving/rubbing. It’s still a little sore in the same area but my knee doesn’t click like before since they trimmed the meniscus. I’m a long distance runner so looking forward to recovery after this slight knee ache. Thank you in advance for any insight! 🙏🏼

I found out recently (after dealing with the pain for nearly a year and struggling to be seen by a doc and have it actually looked into) that I have bone marrow edema in my scaphoid bone. But I didn't have any recent injury, and no arthritis in that area, and I haven't been doing anything like any sports or other rough activities, and it is in my non-dominant hand. Not really sure why it developed. Only recently did I finally get a doc to actually look at it, and only just now am able to start some pt. But over the past year the pain has gotten absolutely terrible to the point that doing absolutely anything with the hand is near impossible because of the pain.

Hi. Thank you for the videos! They’re all very informative and helpful. I had tibial plateau bone edema 3 months ago from running, an orthopedic doctor told me non weight bear for 8-9 weeks, but I did ROM exercises. I was extremely painful in the beginning, now I’m in 13th week, using one crutch (partial weight bearing) for walking in the house. It is still a little painful. When do you think the pain will go away? How long does a tibial plateau edema take to recover? Thank you so much!

Thank you so much for this video. There is little information on bone bruise and this answered my question. I have bone bruise due to a fall 8 weeks ago, I am feeling better and have been doing ROM exercises for 3 weeks now but was worried I shouldn’t be moving so much in order to allow bone bruise recover. After this video I am at ease in continuing my ROM exercises. Is it ok to walk on a treadmill for 15 mins slow pace with bone bruise?

It will depend on how your leg reacts to it - if it is pain free while doing it and it does not cause your pain to be worse in the next 24 hours, then it is usually OK.

Hi there. I got an MRI on my knee and was diagnosed with “small medial tibial plateua bone contusion with adjacent medial joint line soft tissue edema” I play soccer and this pain initiates whenever I kick the ball with the inside of my foot. It sends a shock up to knee and is immeditately met with nagging pain. is this unusual for the bruise to be caused in such a way or does that make sense to you
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio 3 ай бұрын
It can be caused in this way - you may have just had a funny kicking incident as the initial cause and now it keeps getting aggravated. Sounds like you need to avoid kicking at the moment and focus on really building strength around that knee so it can have better support and stability when you kick. If you want help with your rehab and an exercise plan, this is something that our team of physios can assess and help you with via video call. Hi Maryke, 0:43sec the picture this man is holding below his knee, same place below my left knee..the bone is paining and it’s a little swelling over there too. Probably last night it got hit with something (maybe furniture which I didn’t notice on the spot) but in the morning it was hard to walk when I put my first step on the floor. I ignored thinking it a normal bruise. But afternoon passed and it’s evening and weather is getting colder, the pain is getting worse. Please suggest something.

I’ve been going to a chiropractor and he’s been giving me shock therapy for 2 weeks now and I have not attended practice in 4 weeks. The chiropractor says I could return to train even with pain because a callus will form but I’m indecisive on returning to practice because I don’t know what to do. I was hoping maybe you could give me advice anything would be helpful.

First of all, stop the shockwave - there is no evidence it helps for bone bruising. I can't really provide advise about whether to go back to play because that would depend on whether you have the control and strength to safely to so and also how it affects your discomfort. Consult a sports physiotherapist - they will be able to assess you and provide your with rehab and return to sport advice.

I hurt my knee when falling whilst skating. When I fell on the knee (left) it was on the right side of the knee cap on the leg bone itself with the edge of my knee pad pressing into my knee from the pressure while the right side of my side was still momentarily falling to the ground. It felt more of a ligament strain at the time, but in that exact affected area I don't believe tendons to be there so putting it down to bone brusing. It's been 11 days since the incident and although my leg /knee movement is better, the affected area is still a bit sore...especially if I touch it or move my leg where the area has to work. What does this seem to you?

Still showing in MRIs. BME, muscle edema, and some atrophy. I walk around the house, run errands, etc. 3-5k steps / day. I don’t know if I should rest more to allow it to heal, or try to walk and be somewhat active. Nothing seems to help.

I have a bone marrow oedema on my os pubis bone. the pain radiates to my hamstring, and glute mostly, so external rotator stretch or tying my shoelace can hurt it. sometimes it gives adductor pain. i tried to train around it, but doing basically anything can hurt it, even just working in a cafe. it has been 5 months now with almost no progress, just keep re-injuring. apart from swimming, i dont have any ideas
@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Ай бұрын
A few things spring to mind: 1. Has anyone properly checked if you don't have an injury to your high hamstring tendon or adductor tendon? It might be that you have 2 areas that is contributing to this. 2. Bone marrow oedema is usually a sign of overuse but it can also be linked to not eating enough while doing high volumes of exercise - so, to get on top of this, you must consider all activities you do in a day and not just your sport and also things like nutrition and sleep. If you want help figuring this out, I can recommend my colleagues Dominic, Sally and Steph for this type of injury - they can assess it via video call and help you figure out a treatment plan. You can read read more about how the video consultation work here: www.sports-injury-physio.com/

@@SportsInjuryPhysio ok thankyou. Well my physio and I thought it was a hamstring tendon injury and I did two months of isometrics / eccentrics which was probably the wrong thing to do with those first two months. then the MRI came back at 3 months in to confirm my hamstring tendon is in tact and it’s aedema - it didn’t mention adductors but I think I may have strained it around the same time. I think the injury was from overtraining / stress / diet I think. Now I am supplementing collagen and vitamins and trying to rest to get over the initial sensitive period

Most mild injuries take 4 to 6 weeks to recover and if you're still training on it, that may make it take a bit longer - so, swelling may be normal at this point. However, I am obviously making this statement without actually having assessed you, so it might also be that you've actually injured something else in your knee.

I tore my ACL and MCL in both knees, four months ago in a ski accident. The MRI showed contusion on the left knee. I feel a little unstable on the left side. I am choosing not to go under surgery. Right now after four months I am not very happy with the progress I have made. My problem is flexing the left knee. I still can’t flex the knee more than 60° unless the Physical Therapist does it by sort of forcing it. Do you know why I still can’t bend my knee on the left side because of contusion? Do the bruises ever get resolved? Would drinking bone broth from Grass Fed knucklebones of cows. I make at home Help to resolve some of the injuries?

Bone bruises to resolve. Not sure if bone broth will help but in general making sure you get all the nutrients you need is always good for recovery. I can't really speculate about why it doesn't want to go straight - perhaps ask your physio as they can get a better sense of what is actually stopping the movement.

@SportsInjuryPhysio
@SportsInjuryPhysio Ай бұрын
It sounds like soft tissue bruising rather - when you sit still, the extra fluid created by the injury accumulate in the tissue and then when you try to walk, it feels super uncomfortable. But as you get moving, the circulation improves in the area and the extra fluid is taken away and it feels easier. That will improve as your injury recovers over the next few days.
