I wish I knew this 5+ years ago.😕 I only started HRT at 54. I wasn’t having severe issues so I didn’t know I needed it… until I realized I wanted to be proactive for bone loss prevention. I WISH I knew about this as an option during my 40’s. I can’t cry over spilled milk. *sigh*

Interesting enough I started asking for hrt or something to help my menopause journey in my 40’s. Was told no continually until 7 years post menopause at 56 dr decided it was time. In a few Facebook groups with menopause woman I hear they too are being told no ands given alternative like help like Prozac and like products. Glad to see more awareness nowadays

In the UK at least, I know at least one private TRT clinic that also treats women with HRT. I couldn't get TRT on the NHS, I don't know if the same is true for HRT, but I suspect so. If your primary care doctor isn't set up for endocrinology, you need to find a specialist.

I had a hysterectomy at 36. At 40 I started on Premarin until this year and I'm now 77 and was just diagnosed with mild osteopenia. My doctor suggested switching to an estrogel which I have done and it seems to be working well. I'm very active and am told all the time that I don't look my age which is an added bonus for sure! My mom was on Premarin all her adult life despite her doctor not wanting her on it. It's definitely a personal choice but I'm happy to see and hear that many in the medical community have finally come to look at ERT in a very different and more positive way.

What if you have a family history of breast cancer? Also what about people with late menopause? Is hormone therapy recommended?

Once you reach your 60s. Is it actually safe to take hormone replacement? My doctor says no. And at this point will it help with my osteopenia? Or is it just too late?

Yes it's safe. Maybe listen to a podcast Peter Attia did with the people who wrote Estrogen Matters

It won’t undo what’s already been lost but it will slow or prevent further bone loss. Dr Barbie Taylor has some good info about this, but she is a bit of a character. I haven’t found anyone on KZbin who explains it better though! She’s a retired OBGYN surgeon from Houston. I think you can search “menopause Taylor estrogen bone loss” and find something here on KZbin.

What if we are just learning about BHRT and are post menopausal?

It's a travesty that women are not tested for bone density until age 65! WTH? Just diagnosed at age 61 with osteoporosis. I asked for the bone scan when I read women with fibromyalgia have higher rates. I wish I had tested at age 50!

We are taught bone, cell, and muscle regrowth if keep healthy. I dont think science can dictate that which we can heal our own bodies as being sickly. People need to understand that we dont necessarily age. How you care for your bodies and minds is important.p

Please also discuss osteoporosis in men. You don't want to find out you have it at age 60 or 70 by getting a fracture. The death rate post fracture is not good to say the least.

What about having Factor 5?? You should not take any hormones if you are prone to blood clots.

The increase risk in breast cancer risk is tiny (not zero just close to zero). But Estrogen *decreases* the risk of lung, colon, and thyroid cancers. As well as protecting against heart attacks and stroke.

It should be good ratio between estradiol and estrone to prevent inflammation and cancer risks. So adding of estradiol (not estrone) helps to low inflammation.
