Thousands of people have been travelling to Drangan in County Tipperary to avail of the healing touch of a bonesetter.
A bonesetter is a practitioner of joint manipulation, a skill that is instinctual rather than learned.
You couldn’t train for it, you couldn’t learn manipulation.
Jimmy Heffernan is sometimes called an osteopath or a chiropractor, or even by the less complimentary term quack. However he is not bothered by the terminology.
"I wouldn’t mind the Dickens what they call me."
After practising on farm animals and minor breaks in humans, Jimmy left farm work to concentrate on bone setting full-time. Many of his clients would visit him before considering going to a doctor and his success rate proves he is anything but fraudulent. One farmer cured by Jimmy says,
I was crippled walking into him but when I came out I was able to jump about.
Jimmy Heffernan does not advertise his services and charges no more than a pound per session, often providing his care free of charge. He has no problem with doctors and 80% of them are positive about what he can do for patients.
In spite of working by instinct rather than by scientific knowledge, Jimmy is keen to point out he knows exactly what he is doing and his patients are not in any danger.
A ‘Newsbeat’ report by Bill O’Herlihy broadcast on 17 January 1967.

I was treated by Jimmy Heffernan for a sprained ankle c. 1965. We lived about six miles from his house. It was considered quite normal to go to the bonesetter for certain issues. In most cases first resort...not last resort....He was regarded as an expert on slipped discs. I believe that some doctors even referred patients to him.

What's an osteopaths chat up line "What's a joint like this doing in a girl like you?"

Anyone rememember Bolger? in Carrick on Suir working from the back of his sisters old shop. He put in horses hips/stifles with a mallet and did my ankle twice; big man wearng a hat. My father was cured by Dr Bowers around 1918 .....his leg was for amputation because of Osteomolitis .....but got a herbal cure from Bowers; His brother Michael was cured of jaundice by same Dr Bowers. I think he was in Pilltown or Fiddown, there was queueq of horses and traps waiting outside, as my grand mother travelled by horses and trap from a long distancce she was allowed jump up the queue. Westill use the herbal jaundice recipe today

Yes. He was there every Friday as that was the mart day in Carrick-on-Suir. I think he lived near Slievenamon.

A remarkable and gentle man. In fact, I found it remarkable how his patients spoke so softly, almost with reverence for his healing power.

If someone can relieve pain, in a person, who has chronic pain, they are gifted. Very special.

🤯👍 Thank you for praying with me at Christmas "Sinead", if you're still on here. It worked, if you're still on here reply to me . I'm talking to someone "chosen" on here that I think you would like to meet. I told him about that last Christmas, and I want this guy to believe me. So we can believe we are worthy healing people in Christ. I'll give a link to the video and you find the comment, I'll describe. 🐟🐟🐟jump...in the water🐟🐟🐟
