I tried both pianos side by side at their Reigate branch and spent an hour in the peace and quiet paying particular attention to Keyboard action and sound. The keys around middle C are around 55 grams ( I did bring small weights with me) Then i switched the piano on and was impressed with both action and piano sounds, as well as the church organ sounds as I am a church organist as well. The upshot is that I purchased the ca 79 in polished Ebony and I'm looking forward to its arrival next week. The reason I went for the ca79 instead of the ca99 is I liked the style more ( currently got a Yamaha CLP 170 circa 2004) and it satisfied all my needs as simple as that.

@@keska01 the most important in my opinion is the action, as it will presumably prevent users of having the well known problem with the sticky keys. Also the touchscreen is slicker and fully integrated with Android and iOS, and the outer design is just as I wished it to be when I first bought my CA97, and I'd love to get on if these but I'm still happy with my current piano and I couldn't justify the investment here, so I'm sticking to what I have

Always love your videos and one of them even helped me decide to buy a Kawai MP11SE a while back ;-) These new CA models look wonderful but as with all cabinet pianos, I really wonder why one would need all those sounds (this is not specific to this video, mind you). Don't people buy this kind of piano to play 'the piano' ? I guess it's just me, but it feels strange playing organ or synth sounds on a wooden cabinet piano...

@@mrpk646 Save yourself the hassle and get the FP-30 cheap with it's original stand then run pianoteq with that and you will never look back. Great keybed, very fast and a nice bounce like a grand piano. The default piano sound is great but with pianoteq you get the feel of playing a Steinway D that sound like Horowitz. Many problems with Kawai, Keys too heavy, a bit mushy because they placed felt fabric or so under keys to stop them from clicking and clacking and instead you have this slow keybed resisting you on every press you make, only noticeable when playing fast. Not sure they adressed other problems like some samples being very missplaced in their sound. I would do proper research first, read others experience. The keybed have potential but need to be faster and lighter and the strange samples need to be fixed.

HI, if we go with a lot of "low Volume" playing, would you recommend the CA79 over the CA99. I read that the CA99 must be volume up to 50% to get proper sound?
@bavariarocks3 жыл бұрын
I have the same question. Did you get an answer elsewhere? I am highly interested in the CA99, but I usually play at "room volume" in my apartment. Is the 99 the right choice then? I hope to get a more profound sound at lower volume, too...
@Zoco1012 жыл бұрын
I think the speakers will open satisfactorily at assorted volumes, but your ears will cry for more if you play very quietly, and this can spoil your touch. How much volume you use should depend on the music you are playing. How much you need to adjust the dial/slider depends on the acoustics of your room. Its better to use headphones than to play excessively quietly, because otherwise you will instinctively start pressing the keys too hard. Hmmm, I'm forgetting about the soundboard on the CA99. I don't know if its efficiency is effected by low volume, but I still think that the biggest issue is playing at a pleasing natural volume (for the room) so you don't confuse your touch.
@Zoco1012 жыл бұрын
This is just my superficial opinion after trying the CA99 briefly and listening to comparisons between the CA79 and other pianos: The CA79 hits the sweet spot in value-for-money. Both have a good but not too exciting action, a nice sound, good build quality and extras. I don't see the value in paying much more for the CA99 just to add the soundboard and make the instrument more vulnerable to climactic changes. At that price, why not go for a good used upright?
@Zoco1012 жыл бұрын
@@verymozart Good by digital piano standards, but there are better, even in plastic actions. If you're spending all that money on a digital piano, you want an action to write home about.

Hi, How good is this ca99 at low volume ? I mean apartment level volume which do not disturb neighbours much ? Compairing to ca79, Should I go with ca79 is it better for low volume usage, or no difference ?
@Zoco1012 жыл бұрын
@Ali_Somnez Seems you're thinking of getting less amplification so you can play with normal touch without disturbing the neighbours. If you turn your piano volume down, you will get the same effect. The problem is that subconsciously, your ears will tell your arms/fingers to press harder - because they seek a more natural volume. If your practice room is small or has highly reflective surfaces, you'll be reducing the volume of the CA99 to below 50% anyway, but if you make the piano sound really quiet (on either model) while playing what should be mf/forte passages, this will mess up your touch. The obvious solutions are to do part of your practice with headphones on, or agree specific practice times with your neighbour. Don't play with one headphone on and one off, as this can damage your hearing. You might consider some open-backed headphones, so you can enjoy the sounds from both (reduced) sources but this requires that you override the internal speaker cutout. Not all models allow this.

I played them side by side last week. Both were very nice digital pianos but for the key action, CA99 felt much more like a real piano, the quality was quite impressive. My Funny Valentine has music by Richard Rodgers & lyric by Lorenz Hart. It is about unconditional love. Funny means strange here, it doesn't mean amusing. Lorenz Hart was a lonely man, who wanted someone to love him for what he had inside. It would have been beautiful if someone had sung his own song about him, and meant it.
