The mystery loading dock is in fact a loading dock. likely for some abandoned mining concern.
@RobertWitham3 жыл бұрын
I should have known you would recognize it, Greg! Some sort of loading dock was my best guess with that earthen ramp behind it, but I had not seen anything quite like it. I'm sure there was a lot of mining in those mountains back in the day.

Cool place. I have a pic of that salt flats sign with my pick up in front of it. Went through there last summer.

I tried to visit here last summer on my way from Oregon back to Wyoming, but managed to "plan" it during a heatwave and with heavy wildfire smoke from California so I ended up just driving through at night. It was pretty cool to finally see the salt flats though.

The BLM sign says not to drive on the salt flats now because of wet areas, but I think everyone but me did it anyway!

Thanks, Kenneth! It's nice to be back again after a pretty crazy season of life. I was thinking it must have been some sort of dock with the earthen ramp in the back of it. I'm sure there were mining operations in those mountains years ago.

Thanks, Mark! That sombrero is from Los Algodones. Had to make sure I found one with a chin strap though since I spend so much time in windy places. LOL Best wishes on your eye surgery. I hope that is a complete success and that you have a speedy recovery.

@@RobertWitham It is quite helpful,, it has been extra windy this spring in New England.

I think it is an old loading dock and then it looks like some one had a fire pit. Maybe then used it for shelter.
@RobertWitham3 жыл бұрын
I was thinking some sort of loading dock as well, especially with that earthen ramp in the rear. I'm pretty sure there would have been some mining operations in those mountains in years past so that would make sense.

Thank you :) I found that sombrero in Los Algodones this winter. It does a good job of providing shelter from the sun, but I had to find one with a chin strap though as I spend so much time in windy locales. Any sign of an old railroad bed? Maybe a "stopper" for parking one?
@RobertWitham3 жыл бұрын
There is a current rail line to the south of the salt flats, but it's probably 5-10 miles from where I was camped. I don't know what might have been there years ago though. I'm sure there was some mining done in the mountains around this area.

Would you be interested on a project right in backyard of Smoky Mountains? Free Mt land to park, access to showers h/c free, even kitchen use..you would be able to get all kinds of great shots for future film, waterfalls, caves, old farms, endless. KOOL during spring, summer because of trees etc. Not sure how to contact you. I think this would be a good experience. If there was ever cows or sheep that were pastured in this area, the loading dock could have been used to move the livestock.
