I have one of these, but unfortunately all the screws on the face are just about rusted away so im going to need to drill them out and replace them if i want to clean the viewfinder mirrors and tune up the shutter
@RobertWitham4 күн бұрын
We ended up hanging to drill those screws too unfortunately. If my memory is correct, maybe one or two were removable and the others had to be drilled.

If I recall correctly, that vintage of Triton engine has the spark plugs from hell. They often go untouched because of the bad things that happen when they sheer off, or roll the threads in the cylinder head. 90% of misfire problems are going to be plug and coil related. I'm assuming your scan tool does not have a live data feed on misfire counts. Waiting for self test results can take a long time. When I was wrenching, it was always recommended to start fresh if possible.That means the dreaded spark plug change and a set of Quality Coils. Piecemealing a repair on this system of this age is going to be a hit or miss proposition. In any event, it appears you have the situation well in hand.

That is my understanding as far as the spark plugs as well (unfortunately)! We had them all changed by my mechanic earlier this year just to stay on top of it. They had last been done about five years and 80,000 miles before so it seemed like time to do it again. My best guess at this point is that the #6 coil was a bit loose as it hasn't acted up at all since I swapped the #6 and #8 coils for troubleshooting. I did pick up a spare coil though so I have it in the van now in case that one or any of the others decide to quit working.

@RobertWitham robert, I totally realize that you have not spent your life as mechanic. I have. I am here to tell you that some of those types of skills are instinctive. You have the correct type of instincts. In my best English accent.... < right, carry on then > 😊 Best wishes

Robert. Was the coil pluged in tight. Or the fuel injector not plugged in tight. If clips are broken
@RobertWitham2 күн бұрын
I couldn't tell about the coil because it was in such an awkward spot, but since I swapped two for troubleshooting it has been running perfectly. That leads me to wonder if perhaps the coil or coil wire was perhaps loose and that was the problem. I did pick up a spare coil though just in case that one or any of the others decide to quit working. Fortunately we were able to limp it into town that time, but it we had been way out in the mountains or something I might have been calling one of my kids to deliver parts LOL

It won’t be a coil it probly plugs they need to be done every 100,000 max. But to do the plugs it is a job. It takes me 4 hrs usually 🇨🇦🛠️🇨🇦🛠️don’t put coil in it till you know what the plugs are like. Just sayn
@RobertWitham2 күн бұрын
We actually just had all of the plugs replaced earlier this year. I have heard they are a bear though so I had my mechanic handle that project to be sure everything was done right and I didn't do something slick like breaking off a plug in a hole that I can't even see! LOL

That was a fun spot to camp and hang out for a while. We just happened to see it on a map earlier this summer when we were down in that area exploring. So far the van has been running great since I swapped those two coils for troubleshooting. My best guess at this point is that either the coil itself or the wire must have been a bit loose and I just didn't realize it because it was so hard to access up under the firewall and fuel rail. We did pick up a new coil anyway so it's in the van for whichever one decides to quit next! LOL

So far it's been running great again. My best guess at this point is that something was loose and I managed to inadvertently fix it when I swapped a couple for troubleshooting. LOL We did pick up a spare coil to have in the van just in case there is trouble with it again.

Whoever wrote the code for the Ford Modular V8s of that vintage needs to have their head examined. It requires a ridiculous amount of "miss-fires" before the code will set
@RobertWitham9 күн бұрын
I remember last winter when it was acting up that it would take a long time for the check engine light to come on - even when it was clearly misfiring.
@cuddlesanddaisy9 күн бұрын
I heard recently to change the spark plug when you change the coil because a bad plug can ruin a coil.

No bikini? It`s such a nice spot. I am curious what happened to the Prius.
@RobertWitham9 күн бұрын
The Prius is still going well. We were actually driving it today for errands. This trouble happened only about two hours from our home base so had not brought the car. All of my sons work here in town and drive big trucks and trailers so they area always willing to rescue us if we are reasonably close. We do plan to take both the Prius and the van to the desert after Christmas though. It is nice for peace of mind to have a second vehicle on those longer trips just in case we have any trouble on the road.

I always change all my coils and save the old ones to use when one or 2 coils go bad. Good luck. Remember if it's not the coils, check spark plugs if not fuel injector. Keep positive. 💯🫡
