Sung with clarity. I'm ready, after listening to this wonderful lady, to become a hermit for a while and to try stop time from running away. Thank you Bonnie Raitt.

Please forgive and accept this half century belated happy bday, please forgive the years not a proper friend, please forgive, can still feel the traces, when I flash back, the lump in this throat from the day you left for the East Coast...everyone leaves, & i helped prove it so, programmed from much earlier not to get too nor stay too attached, just to let go, also never really my forte, never believing my say really mattered. Please forgive, watching those beautiful lips, & clear truth that from them emerges, the sound I've known from so long ago... please forgive, the love that I'd hid away & buried for you, the unnameable fear that fed every weird thing I ever said or did -- criticism, denial, fading back into the darkness or stunned surprise, more than i could admit for our good friend who loved you, too...please forgive me for being asleep at the wheel of that most most beautiful birthday greeting surprise Sun 2 am 3/20/16, waited til I was done with a long teaching week, but when I went to respond you were gone, gone, gone, my last visual memory your vapor trail at d's, please forgive me. I love you, always have, always will. Please accept & forgive. GC

I love this song and I love her voice, very leagendary!! I also love Reba McEntire's cover as well, which I can't find anywhere except on the little rascals (1994?). Anyway, awesome video.

I guess I’m a little drunk at the moment , but long ago I was moved by Linda Ronsdadt doing this song and what it meant to me was someone totally committing themselves to their lover unconditionally. That should only happen to the truest, one and only soul-mate and after having lived a pretty long life I would say that to actually come to that point in reality the odds would make winning the world’s biggest lottery seem like a shoo-in. The rest of us make compromises.

Waaaaay back before she made a career of being a 'non-drinker' and a smooth-jazz super-star. Sorry, my fellow "white people". I haven't taken her seriously since.
