My ques is--should I do hard pruning or simply chop the tree to half..I find both very difficult but also want to convert it in a beautiful bonsai. It's an old tree with nice roots n thick stem. Plz help.

yes you can, if the foliages are too dense. If you want fruits on it then let it grow as it is.
