Love your videos. I thought for sure this one was going to fire up at the end. Good job keeping it real and leaving us hanging!

I'd certainly agree with the "stick a drill on it" brigade, and if not for any other reason, then because the valves weren't cleaned and lapped, and you may be losing just enough compression for it not to fire. Spinning it with a drill should pound away at any rust and dust deposits on the valve seats - Sort brute force approach, but it works Mustie and others, but also, just spinning the engine at a constant speed and working up some heat via the compression should help. Just as an aside, I was watching "Bangers and Cash" tonight, and guess what? They were selling one of these Bonsers. Guess what else? It was bought by the lady who owns the garage where I take my car for repairs and MOT!

Sorry this oldie didn’t fire up, hope you figure it out and make another video just so we can see her run! I also wanted to let you know that it was great to see you wearing a Gas Monkey T-shirt! That garage is about 250 miles from my house! Really cool!

I believe it is the carburetor when you put fuel in the cylinder it pops off but after that nothing completely rebuild the carburetor great video

I was surprised this one did not start Adam. wonder whether you feed it straight into the carb as there might be some crap still blocking the jets. Your storing the engine all these years under cover has paid handsomely. That mag looks new inside. Best of luck with it as it would suit the truck well. How about one of your diesel listers? It would climb a cliff face! All the best

Beats me! I'd have expected it to run with some petrol down the bore at least - your timing looks right (eventually!), the impulse should fire just about at TDC at slow speeds, which it appeared to. I think what I'd do is turn off the petrol to take the carb out of the equation, and persevere with running it either petrol down the plug hole or carb cleaner down the carb inlet. It should run for a second or two on that if everything else is right. You could mark TDC on the flywheel and put a timing light on it just to check the timing is about right, maybe that impulse is sticky and firing late when you turn it a bit faster? Maybe pull the valve cover and check the valve clearances are sensible? Was it flooded or just too rich? I normally find with the petrol down the bore it's worth holding the throttle open and at some point it will find it's own correct(ish) mixture as excess fuel blows out as you crank. I couldn't see if you were doing that? Something I used to do with fixed jet carbs that had a jet blockage was to turn the engine over with my hand completely sealing the carb intake - that way the suction tends to pull hard on the fuel, often pulling the bit of &^%$ free from the jet. It's quick and easy to try, anyway! Failing that, a pagan Bantam sacrifice will always work, with the correct incantations of course. Good luck with it!

Needed to tilt the camera down a drag so we could see the Maggy, it would be much more interesting than your cap 😂 but you got it right in the end 👍. Ona positive note that bore and valves look in great condition

I think it's the HT lead being old, just a guess, bye the way is that a rover sd1 behind the work bench, great video.

I agree, if the mag is producing a lot of power the flow will be the least resistance which could be a small crack in the lead insulation near an earth point.

I think the carb needs to come apart, float valve and each jet inspected and blown through. It wants to run on the fuel down the plug hole, just not enough to sustain any fire. Good luck.

I don't think your spinning her over fast enough to get a good air flow through the engine, also it looks like there's not a great amount of compression, I bet after all these years the rings are stuck. Do you have a compression tester?

Hi Adam Should you be using a long reach plug as was originally fitted. Is that why it won't start
@theoilybeard3287 Жыл бұрын
I have a villiers with a short plug that should be a long one, it works, but probably not the best of ideas!

Carb needs cleaning properly ,that float bowl was mankey disassemble it right down and have another decent muck out and start again .

Hi Adam, I’m inclined to agree with previous comments re long reach plug and or carb block somewhere. Still a good video. You can’t win erm all buddy.

The exhaust manifold is tapped one inch BSP there is the remains of an old piece of pipe stuck in there, if you carefully cut it you can then screw or peel it out. I am not sure you turned the petrol tap on so there may not have been enough head of petrol in the carb, also that carb needs to be cleaner inside you blew it out but there was a lot of corrosion inside that needs to be removed otherwise it will was off and clog the jets.

Put a little oil down the bore give it a little more compression all so pencil the plug aswell but please don't push down on the handle as these are quarter pull and if fire backward can break your arm so be aware goodluck

U want to take the carb of dismantle remove all the jets and clean it properly take the points out again clean them to a fine finish u can’t do half a job and expect it to run u got petrol leaking every where that back fire could have been dangerous be more careful that’s how stupid accidents happen don’t want to see any one get hurt
