Been using this this whole year. This is indestructable...recently fell in some wild bushes with big thorns. I came out in scratches and nothing happened to hippack. Would buy this again.

💯 I've had mine close to two years now, and it has a lot more life in it. Such a solid pack. I should note that (before I could fit a bottle on the bike) I figured out that I could stuff a Camelbak bladder into one of the pockets to nearly double water capacity. Solid fanny pack.

Great review. I really like how you slowed down at first and gave the full review then went back over your reviews. I just got the CamelBak hip pack and will use it for the first time this week. I have to have a lot of water so I can't do these bottle only packs. But that's me.

Thanks! Glad you dug the format. 👍🏽 Yeah. For the more water-needy rides, I used to stuff a bladder into one of the pockets. But my new bike can handle a full-size water bottle. 💦

I've heard good things about this pack. The center position of the water bottle makes a lot of sense. I almost never carry a water bottle in my pack because it makes the one side sag. I do like carrying a hand pump and I'm not sure how that would fit in that pack. I suppose I could just reply on CO2s but I like having that backup. Very well done review.
@seanwalsh30525 жыл бұрын
Brian Vaughn what I do is I hold my pump on my frame. My pump and I think a lot of them include a part that bolts under the water bottle cage and then can hold the pump. If it’s not tight it can be a little loud but as the plastic holders expand a little I just put a bit of tape on the pump to make it tighter.

Thanks for this review - hadn't seen this pack prior. Would a small bike pump fit in one of the pockets?
@mtb_alan4 жыл бұрын
No worries. If it were pretty small, you might could squeeze it in there but it might make it uncomfortable. FWIW, I carry C02 instead. And if I am on a ride long enough where I want something as trusty as a pump, I'll take a bigger fannypack or a backpack.

Alan, do you think this pack would keep a frozen water bottle semi cold? Do you think this pack can provide some insulation for a bottle in hot climates? Thanks and great job on the video.
@mtb_alan4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Scott! My pleasure. I don't think the pack will help keep a bottle cold since the holster is partly the elastic piece across the back. It may keep a frozen bottle from freezing your spine though. I could tell you for sure though.

@mtb_alan2 жыл бұрын
I have in the past been able to stuff my Patagonia Houdini windbreaker in this pack. I dunno if it could hold anything thicker though. That being said, I have a times used the water bottle holster to hold a thicker jacket. Works well if you can put your bottle on your bike.

Hi Joe. I normally have a 650ml bottle in there, so I think either of those sizes would work as long as they have the notch in the standard place...the same place that would work on a standard water bottle cage. Hope that helps.

I bought a Camelbak it came not with George’s cassette it came with Wham! Greatest hits 8Trak, I belive there is an ABBA and Beegees version. I bought it before looking at this video. The Camelbak came in a lower price and with their signature Bike Podium Bottle, Not bad but not a MTB solution by MTB riders product. Still Camelbak was versatile it works great for MTB as for running and trailing. And the Wham! 8 Trak is just on the spot.

Do the straps come loose while riding? Do you find you have to retighten them every now and then?

Good question! Once I have the pack to the tightness I want, it pretty much just stays. The only times I’ve had to tighten it was when I’d had the pack a little too low on my hips when I initially snugged it up. The pack tend to fit best when it’s riding just on top of the hips. Hope that helps! 🤘🏽

What do you figure are the chances of becoming paraplegic if you fall on your back?
@mtb_alan4 жыл бұрын
Assuming you’re talking about the placement of the water bottle. The chances are probably no greater than without it unless one has a spine that’s weaker than a water-filled plastic bottle whose nozzle pops open with the pressure caused by the bubbles from a Nuun tablet. 🤷🏾♂️

@mtb_alan4 жыл бұрын
I can say for sure. I have run on the trail with this pack on when I ran back up the trail to see about a buddy that went down. 🤷🏾♂️😆 But I can say that I wear it up on top of my hip bones (not slung down like I see people do), and it fits pretty snug. Now that I think of it, the design is similar to the runner's belts I've seen. Hope that helps.
@manueleugster62174 жыл бұрын
Hi Matt, I have used this pack for about a year now. I first bought it for MTB and am extremely happy the way it performs as such. I recently tried it for trail running (20 km loop, 1000 m elevation up and down again, on the road, trail and in the snow). I was thoroughly impressed by it. I was playing with the idea of getting a specific trail running pack but now I am convinced that the rapid pack will do the job with ease. I especially like the bottle holder as I have never been a huge fan of hydration packs for running. The bottle allows you to refill super quickly in a stream or at a fountain. As people said before, the pack hugs crazy good (no matter if full or not) and this holds true while running too. I hope this helps.
