TweakTips you deserve a pint!! This was my Hail Mary. I was getting all the E100 codes and nothing from the troubleshooting screen would work. I bought a new 1TB SSD did a simple NTFS format following other tutorials and same results. Ran tests on the original HD and it passed. I was at a loss and almost relegated to sending the Xbox in for repair or waiting for the new Series X. I decided to follow your instructions and OMG!!! It worked. One thing I had noticed was even though it seemed nothing was going on with the new SSD in the box I pulled it out and checked it had all the same files as the old HD but I had never got passed the "something happened" screen even with a factory reset. I reformatted the new SSD with HD Prep Script per your instructions and I believe that made the difference. Your video and instruction saved me money and my Xbox my friend. Thank you!!! NOTE TO OTHERS: If simply formatting a new HD and throwing it in the box does not work and you have followed other instructions with no joy WATCH THIS VIDEO. It essentially creates a brand new Xbox HD that the Xbox likes and is ready to update. When all else failed and repair was imminent this worked for me.

Got the hard drive and caddy you recommended and the software from the description. Everything is working now. Mircosoft wanted $250 for a replacement console. They said they couldn't repair it only replace. Been pissed about the whole situation buying a $400 console and having it break in less then two years and they wanted $250 more to make it right. I was in e101 & e106 Loop on my Xbox one x after doing all the steps. New SSD didn’t work... but now it works again! It was a developer / insider build after all. Had to wait for new OSU to come out a few days ago to fix the insider build corrupt files. I Plugged in new OSU1 with flash stick and it updated great. Then I joined insider hub on the console and went to -> settings -> manage devices -> unenroll Xbox one x from developer program -> restart -> reset to factory. Now I’m back to release build with no issues and a new SSD. Woo hoo!

Hey thanks for this it worked for me on the second go! In case anyone is having issues I tried this twice. The first time I tried with an old 2.5" 2tb drive from an external HDD enclosure that I had reformatted. It didn't work, I kept getting E200 error codes on startup with the recycled HDD. I tried again with a brand new 2tb HDD and it worked first time. Make of that what you will, but if anyone is stuck might be something to consider.

YOU ARE DA BEST!!! Fucking hell the feeling of not being able to game for 3 weeks!! All thanks to you my Xbox is up and running again. It had shown all the errors (E101, E102, E106, etc.) First I replaced the connectors but that didn't work. Soon I realised the problem was in my hard drive. Had a problem 102,103,106. I used your video and followed along, console would still remain on E106. Tried power cycles, bind and eject and nothing. I did one hallmary and was surprised it work . I combined OSU1 with OSU 3 files onto a USB to perform offline system update. Now there are 6 files that share the same name and won't move over. Keep the larger OSU3 files. So basically you are making a USB drop OSU3 into OSU1 and let it overwrite the 6 files. Then try to perform the offline system update. This worked for me, it may not work for you but I wanted to share bc I'm just a normal guy and this video helped me out a lot to get a brand new hard drive installed, formatted. Thanks. Drew. Symptoms of failure: Slowing in loading times. Lagging in games, noises from the hard drive, having to factory reset the xbox often, and finally 3 boot noises and spinning sounds coming from the xbox then the xbox powering off without seeing the boot logo. (if youre seeing this last one you cannot copy the drive it's 💩)

So found your video to be helpful! But through my experience I learned that if a console is part of the "Xbox Preview Program," then none of this, including the OSU1 offline update will work, even with a new hard drive. I thought my Xbox One X had a bad hard drive since a recent update got caught in a fail/restart cycle. Replaced the hard drive with a new one, but same issue continued to happen and offline update would always instantly fail. Decided to test the old hard drive with SeaTools and both short and long generic tests passed on the old HHD. So started looking at other issues. Finally was able to determine that the offline update and/or scripts for a new hard drive will not work for a console on the Xbox Preview Program. To do so, the console must be removed (unenrolled) from the preview program and then offline update or even an online update will work. At least that is what worked for me.

So I’m currently in this situation. Just bought a used xbox one x and apparently it was part of the preview program (xbox insider). The OS version is 19041.6288.amd64fre.xb yada yada yada.. I’m simply trying to upgrade to a SSD. Just did an upgrade last month, and all I did was throw the new SSD in the xbox and do an offline OS1 update. Everything worked perfect. This time around is way different. Keep getting error codes. Have done multiple restores and attempted offline updates. Even joined the insider program and unenrolled to get the xbox serial number off the program. Let the xbox run for 72, which it said it may need that long to unenroll. Restarted xbox, restored xbox, tried everything. Still has that same insider program OS. Won’t accept the OS1 offline update with the factory HHD. If I go through the process in this video with my new SSD, do you think everything will be ok or do you think the insider program has messed it up. Xbox works completely. Just can’t upgrade to SSD or offline update

@@abasiczombie. Hi - on a PC, delete ALL partitions from the SSD so the SSD it totally blank. Then, install the SSD into the Xbox and power on - from the menu select offline update and plug in a USB with the latest OSU1 from Microsoft. After it installs, it will force you to download and re-install the Insider OSU1

@@abasiczombie. When you say you joined the insider program, I assume you did that through your own account/gamertag? If the previous owner originally had it on the preview program, then maybe Microsoft is still tracking that system is enrolled through their account/gamertag? I had two Xboxes have this issue at the same time, and full factory resets doesn't seem to unenroll them from the program. So I had to have my brother sign in to my account on his Xbox and then go to the preview program and unenroll the Xboxes on my account. Then for me, online updates instantly worked on both boxes. So if you by chance can still contact the previous owner, may see if they can still unenroll that Xbox from the preview program. That at least would be my best guess.

Came here after watching some of XFiX's vids and such. This is another excellent video on the subject. The one 'gotcha' is that, after you install your new drive into the XBox, you need to follow this special power-on sequence correctly the FIRST time, i.e. from a "cold boot". If you make a mistake and the XBox starts up "normally" (goes the home screen right away), that's OK -- just UNPLUG it, re-plug it, and start over as from a "cold boot" again. Make sense? Another point of note. Most of the files in the System Update A/B folders are language-support. You can technically exclude the ones you don't need. All of these language-support files are named like "aa-bb.xvd", where the "aa-bb" part is the language-country code; for example, "en-au" is "English-Australia", "es-mx" is "Espanol-Mexico" (Mexican Spanish), etc. As an English speaker, for example, I ONLY included the 3 that started with 'en-**': "en-au.xvd", "en-ca.xvd", and "en-gb.xvd". Notice that none of those are "en-us", United States English; so in THEORY, I probably did not need ANY of the language files. Since US English is the 'default' language of the console, it stands to reason that there's no 'extra language file' for it. But I figured it doesn't hurt to have at least one, if the XBox system-updater starts looking for them. Hope that helps future viewers & hackers. GLHF! =)

Absolute life saver you are!! Thank you for making such a good tutorial! Last week my Xbox one X frozed while I was playing, tried to reboot and it never turn on again. Tried holding sync and eject button but nothing shows up, just no signal via HDMI. My Xbox is out of warranty anyway so I decided to open up myself, took out the 1TB Seagate hard drive and plug into my PC and it won't read the HD, that's when I know something is up with the drive. I have a 240GB SSD lying around and I thought I'd give it a try just to make sure it's the HD. Followed your tutorial but at about 70% update, it always error out with error code E102 which I kind of suspect as 240GB is not enough storage. I went ahead and bought a new 1TB Samsung 970EVO SSD and followed the instructions again, this time it boots up all ok. I'm up and running again saving me fortunes to repair it from Microsoft. Just want to say thank you for this great tutorial!

For those who have xbox one x, already changed the hd and continues to present errors and crashes, I solved my adapting an external hd case and feeding the power of hd by the usb input of the console itself. Because the problem is in the power supply pro hd on the motherboard. The hd is going off or crashing with the console running due to some power instability, so throwing crashes and errors on power up. This tip is only for those who already changed the hd and the errors continued. I had to have surgery on the case plate, because I had to cut and unsolder the Data Sata socket (keeping the power sata socket), so that I could put a sata data cable from these computer and connect it to the motherboard. xbox, I kept the hd inside the console, the case wire I went through one of the side holes, without cutting the case, and plugged it into the usb input of the console. Remembering that the case card will only serve to power the hd, you will have, as said, use a sata data cable to connect to the motherboard, if not the device does not turn on. I'll wait for some technician to post which motherboard component is failing so I can replace this component because it's hard to figure out when the problem happens only once in a while. I've been testing and forcing the Xbox for 5 days, and it didn't crash anymore, no errors either.

How do I know what size SATA Caddy to get for my existing Xbox One machine in order to connect it to my computer? The link you provided shows some for a 2.5 inch drive and another one is for a 3.0 inch SATA drive. Also, I thought I read somewhere that if you upgrade your existing HD from a 1TB drive to a 2 TB drive that you will end up having errors because the Blue Ray Drive has to match the existing HD - is that correct?

Hi Eddie - it is the 2.5 inch version you need (like this one - amzn.to/3aKgk0D). The hard drive capacity has no match with the blu-ray drive so a 500GB, 1TB or 2TB drive will work fine

@@sacg1352 Hi Sergio - this could be a faulty hard drive, or it could be a fault retimer chip. If you turn on your xbox and leave it powered on, does it turn off automatically after a couple of minutes? If you have a PC with two HDD channels (two SATA controllers) on board, yes. You still need to boot Windows for this to work, so you can only add the hard drive as a second device

Hello, I get to 7:32 in the video. It shows the New Volume hhd as Disk 2 in disk management, but the script only allows [0,1]. I do not have a Disk 1 shown in Disk Management. If I click 1, it then shows some caution and warning screens, and says under guid that the "ECHO is off" and no further information. It says it will ease all data on the disk and if I should continue. How can I fix it to get it back on track?

Hi, thanks for the comment. It sounds like it could be either your hard drive is faulty (windows not detecting) or the USB/SATA adapter/cradle is not working. Do you have any lights on your adapter? Can you hear the hard drive spin up when you connect it to your PC?

@@timdowney3337 106 105 those for me was hard drive, by any chance you have not changed the disc drive, but that would be error 100, so why don’t you remove hard drive connect it to laptop via external connector start fresh follow all the steps, than use the cmd program now as we speak I am doing another Xbox 4 to go, and on my one I just got error 101 fresh usb, so my solution to this one is I am going to disassemble the Xbox one x, apply fresh paste to processor than do the above steps to hard drive, connect hard drive as it I am not going to remove again and just put Xbox together only with 1/ 2 screws, out usb front, press left button right button hold them, press power button, keep holding untill second beep, I have usb at the front and I have usb which lights up when in use, so for you does the update process even start? Do you get error second restart?

@Kieran Arnold There is a ribbon cable which is connected to the bottom case - the other end of the cable connects to the motherboard via the metal casing (it has a metal plate with two screws to fasten it). Make sure you have connected that cable back up again when you re-assembled the console. Also check you have pushed it correctly back in place on the motherboard and tighten up the screws.

Hi, sorry can i ask you a question, i dont want to replace my disk, but its damage in a eternal loop error. I simply delete all the files from the partition disk and the xbox start running. My new problem its when i download a game it keep's crashing (installation stopped) i made the hard reset one time, on other time i put the usb with osu1, but after a little while, the intallation error crash everything up again. Im in a loop 102 again, whatever i do it i get 101 on OSU1 and 102 on everything else. My question is, intead of delete everything of the disk's. can i format one for one, or if a format the 708gb disk i f**** everything up? thanks a lot for the video

Hi Fernando - Sounds like you have bad sectors on your hard drive and it will need replacing I am afraid. When you format the drive you will loose all your data.

Hello, I'm getting error code e105 which isn't listed in your video, along with the something went wrong message on my Xbox one x. Do you have any idea whether this is also related to a HDD issue, or something else? It also sometimes gives the "something is wrong with your saved games" message with a screen that gives you the option to either reset the console, troubleshoot, turn it off. It also just randomly shuts down at times. Thanks for any help you can give me as I'm pulling my hair out over this.

E105 can mean a number of issues, faulty firmware and faulty hard drive - I would try swapping the hard drive as in the video with a replacement first of all - hope you get it working again.

I was playing Monster Hunter world and had invited two of my friends on one of my quest. @@Imadeyourun Hi Festering, I am very well thank you, and hope you are too. That is a little odd, and not something I have seen before. I did have a strange date like that when running an update from USB - have you tried to manually check for an update with in the dashboard? It will probably say no update available (if you downloaded the latest update to USB) but worth a try. What version number does it give for the dashboard? If it is 10.0.18362.6065 then you have the latest version. If the Xbox is working correctly, I wouldn't worry about it too much, as the next update they push will fix the date issue. Also, its worth checking that the date and time is set correctly on your xbox.

I have read that other users were experiencing the same issue after having swapped there HDD and, or updating from a USB stick. It doesn't really worry me much, just as long as I don't get any more errors and I'm able to play without and further disturbances. I just wanted to know what the cause was since not even Microsoft themselves seem to have the foggiest. Anyway, thanks again for the swift reply. And I keep up the great work! Hi Andre - your English is good my friend. Did you hold down the eject and bind buttons until you hear 4 start up beeps? If not try it again as it takes a few attempts to get it correctly.

As long as the version of OS on the Xbox is less than a year old, you now can simply delete all partitions off the replacement hard drive and install it.. then boot the Xbox into safe mode and reload the OS from the USB - this will also work now

@@timdowney3337 well here is what i did to fix that...my new hdd is a toshiba 1TB...but the real size is 930gb so I did the format for a 500gb hdd and after I just connected the hdd to my laptop and manually extend the "User Content" partition that was all (you can use mini tool partition wizard) .... something strange that happened to me was the pen drive I was using had this issue and for some reason the downloading process stop at 59% so I changed the pen drive and finally worked all the instructions in this video...I'm already playing again

@@pabloadolfolopezalegria7390 My works again! It was a developer / insider build after all. Had to wait for new OSU to come out a few days ago to fix the insider build corrupt files. I Plugged in new OSU1 with flash stick and it updated great. Then I joined insider hub on the console and went to -> settings -> manage devices -> unenroll Xbox one x from developer program -> restart -> reset to factory. Now I’m back to release build with no issues and a new SSD. Woo hoo!

Hi Laurent - That error code indicates the update cannot find your DVD/Blu-Ray drive - are you sure you have connected it back up correctly? You can test it by trying to insert a disc into the drive to see if it has power

Alternatively, if you are installing the latest OS, you do not need to worry about partitioning the HDD anymore - make sure the drive is blank with NO partitions and pop that into your Xbox and perform a system update via USB. I also tried a factory reset with USB but nothing. I just removed original HDD and plugged it in the PC with Ubuntu. E100 usually indicates that the DVD drive mismatch/not married to the motherboard. Have you ever swapped the optical drive out? Make sure the DVD drive that came with the console from new is connected

@@fabsec4091 If it is the original drive, then it could be a faulty board in the DVD drive. Does the DVD drive take a disc when you try inserting it (has it got power going to it)? If it does, then you might need to change the firmware chip on the DVD board to a spare working board. Before you try that, down load the latest OSU1 file to USB and try to load it again on to your XBox using the method of holding down eject and bind again (just in case the first time you tried it did not work correctly)

The firmware IC on the motherboard is faulty (which needs to be repaired by Microsoft) or it could be your hard drive starting to fail. As it will be a lot cheaper to replace the hard drive, I would try that first. The hard drive you require is a 1TB 2.5 inch SATA drive (like this one (or a similar brand) - amzn.to/3hLNvE1). Once you have the drive you will be able to follow the video and fingers crossed, that will solve your problems.

Certainly sounds like you need to replace the hard drive. The maximum the Xbox will recognize is 2TB - I have never tried a drive bigger than 2TB but you could give it a go by selecting the 2TB option in the script (although you will be "loosing" 2TB from your drive)

I am not sure if this is supposed to be like so or not but the US link to the SATA USB drive caddy is converted into USB type C instead of USB 3.0, this may cause problems for people because not everyone has a USB type C port on the device they are using to download the files onto the HDD.

Main wrecking culprit is Overheating the Southbridge processor by using a Fake white (fabric-mesh) Thermal pad causing hence Data Corruptions. Replace the white fake pad with any Real blue/grey Thermal Pad 2mm thick. SB processor is located in the bottom side of the motherboard under the powersupply-module position. These hardware fix will stop returning datacorruptions caused by the overheated SB i/o processor.

Hi Ed - That sounds like it might be an issue with the USB stick you are using. After the second power on beep, the xbox is trying to access the USB stick - do you have another you can try? It is always best to use a relatively modern one (say USB 3.0). Also, make sure you have copied the entire $systemupdate folder to the root of the USB stick (the only files you should see on the root of the USB is the $systemupdate folder and nothing else) - also might be worth trying a USB port on the rear of the xbox incase the front one is faulty

FIXED: on the new OSU1 new update, theres a file called "all-langs.xvd" dont copy this to A or B and you'll be good to go.
