Not everyone unfortunately. Some people are just very ungrateful in life. I grew up very poor, not having much the power going out from bills. Christmas wasn’t anything special, one Christmas I got a Wii from a relative and it was awesome. But I am very grateful for where I am now and I treat others with as much kindness and respect. Giving back to others in need.

Apart from buying necessities like food/rent/electricity, saving is the BEST thing you can do with money. There's nothing wrong with spending some money on luxuries and presents for yourself from time to time, but spending money simply because you have it is a REALLY bad idea.

John Dennis No investing in money earners, hard assets and things like renewable energy etc is far better than saving. Only a banker would tell you to save. They try to teach kids this at a very young age in schools. Currency in most countries are not backed by real wealth. You are at the mercy of rates, the bankers and imbeciles. Do you know what the banksters do with your saved money? they reinvest it immediately. In most countries the banks will only have about 10% of your saved wealth at any given time because they are PROFITEERING from your honest money. Do what they do, invest! And make sure you are 100% debt free! If you have $20 and are debt free you are richer than teh average person in that country.

John Dennis I agree saving money is NEED TO THING.I for one am always trying to save what i can save.Boggie is right tho it's not that easy for alot of people to get money in there hand's.Because a job is sometime's hard to find or paying bill's while you jobless.It's not easy.I am jobless and i have debt because of student loan's.And its not fun paying it back knowing i got shit out of a Edacation.But i blame myself only.None the less is save my money no matter the outcome.And i try my best to live with out everything.I can go with out cable tv.I can go with out having a house phone.I don't think i can not go with out hot water and having no light's in the house.And i do not think i can go with out the internet.Everything else and let's not forget about food.You need that to live.But for the most part i can live with out most thing's.Most of my life i was and still am poor.So i don't get mad about being poor.So what at least i am in good health and good sprit.

dude I had it all,rented a nice house, missus, kids, good job, two cars, high end computer, big tv, etc, a workshop in my shed with lights and powertools, all the doodads etc. But my missus threw me out because I worked away mining. 2 weeks away 1 week at home, doing overtime so being away for 5 weeks etc. the job was shitty and i didnt like it so i quit. i still had bills and the kids to help pay for etc. Now I live at mums. I have a bag of clothes. And I rely on her for bills and shelter and soon I'll need to rely on her for food too. I'm almost 35. I lost everything and I have nothing and work is hard to find and I'm broke. But your video HAS taught me something. And once things pick back up for me, and they will eventually I'm sure, I plan to save like a demon because I fucking HATE being broke. thanks for your story man, it was inspiring.

i know what its like to have to move back in with your parents. i left the military after 4 years, after some horrible decisions, to move back home. it is one of the most humiliating things ever. You move out and think you made it. you think you made your life happen. that was the extent of my future thinking. i had it in my mind that i was making my future gold. but i did nothing to solidify that. thankfully, im moving out again next month, with high hopes and remembering all of my shitty choices. thanks for sharing boogie.

I'm approaching 30, last year I had to move back in with my parents, a long list of things went wrong, but my health was the main reason, my back is so bad that I could barely do anything to support myself, going outside to the shop was agony, hell even going to the bathroom took up so much of my energy, and sleeping in my living room was easier than struggling to go to the bedroom, which probably in turn made my back worse. I'm finally getting the attention I've been asking for to try and fix this because the NHS is so broken, they never saw it as 'life threatening'. Having to rely on benefits has made me really depressed, I can't go out for walks like I love to do and the room I'm in sometimes feels like a prison, I want to be able to save but a lot of my money goes on upgrading some things to feel more 'at home', I've bought some things to try and start youtubing and streaming on twitch, for the past half a year or more I've been saying I will start, but depression makes me put it off. In the UK since I can't work, I'm not really allowed to save, if I was to save, I would be taken off the benefits I need to live when I reach a certain amount, which then I would have to spend, and go back on benefits, there is no security in it at all, and it leaves you stuck in the same cycle. I just hope to be able to get back into a lifestyle where I don't need to rely on anyone else, it's what I'm used to so this has been the hardest time in my life, it's embarassing. Everything you just said is just another reminder that things can get better, and I hope they do. Thank you

I agree with saving for the most part. I also believe that life is short, and it's nice to enjoy yourself once in a while. I save most of my money, but I'll splurge on the little things. Steak dinners a couple times a month, a few games when they all come out at the end of the year, faster internet than I need, etc. I've bought a few really expensive things, and it was probably stupid to do, but damn do I enjoy them, and I really don't regret it. Life is scary and very fragile. There are only so many years that you are healthy, have money, and even have the time to enjoy the money. I would hate to save every penny, work nonstop, and then die unexpectedly without having any nice shit or experiences. I personally save 75% of my free money and spend the other 25% on things that I enjoy. That way I'm still being responsible, and I'm prepared for the future, but I get to live a little. If I went early at least I had some fun.

Hey boog, I usually don't reach out to many people on KZbin for the sole reason that they never reply. I just wanted to say I'm 18 as of right now and growing up I lived a hard life. I grew up being a rather large kid. I lost my father when I was very young right in front of my eyes. One of the hardest things for a child to except is losing a parent, I felt lost and alone. I was 350 pds. By the age of 12, I lost myself. My whole life changed the day I looked in the mirror and said it was enough. I'm currently 258 and loving it, i run my own non-profit called camp strive that gets younger kids working out by adding fun things in there life. I'm going into college for exercise science and sports medicine. I started running, lifting, training myself for a future of promise. Thank you for all the videos you've shared and for all the courage you've given me. If you ever need tips, or workouts. Just let me know, I'm always up for helping anyone.

I'm not interested in one-upping Boogie. I'm not sure how to phrase this so it doesn't look like I'm trying to compare poverty. I absolutely understand that what he went through was horrible poverty. I'd just like to say a bit about my childhood. I was lucky because I had two parents. Other kids I knew didn't, or were raised by their grandmother, but we lived in a bus (with the seats removed) and parked on the beach and the ocean was where we took baths and we cooked on a stove powered by rubbing alcohol. We didn't even buy from Goodwill. The clothes I got from the St. Vincent De Paul Society were already ten years old when I got them and then I handed them down to my little brother. We wore those Chinese slippers that you can buy for $1.25 a pair In Chinatown to school and couldn't run from bullies because those things have no tread and you fall on your face the second you try and run. My mom didn't work and my dad was a landscaper for hire. He made around $400 a month throughout 1983 (The only year I recall knowing how much he made) Most of that went to food, gas and repairs on the vehicles. We never owned a phone until I was ten and our first apartment was a basement parking structure that a landlord allowed my dad to wall off into a sort-of illegal living space when I was ten. Poverty sticks to you. I still haven't really crawled out of it though I have a phone and internet and a studio. Climbing out has been much harder than advertised. It doesn't matter who you are. Poverty sucks and I don't think anyone's experience is any less than anyone else's. Watching this though I kinda wish I had some of the things growing up that Boogie had.

Geahk Burchill I was lucky too. Here's a little backstory: the 80s-90s for my parents were that my mom and dad kept jumping around the US...once 1995 hit, my sister was born. My mother owned a small house/apartment in Forest Hills, Queens, New York. My dad was declined from the US and had to keep living in the Phillipines. Then, my parents, bigger brother, and sister moved in 2003 to Lumberton, North Carolina. One year later, I was born as an accident. When I saw the house, it was an apartment, but it was rather spaced out. In 2004 or 2005 or so, we went to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Things were fun during the time I lived in North Carolina. However, my mom got a job opening in Pennsylvania. We had to move there into Chambersburg. The whole world turned upside down suddenly. We were poor, money was tight. Two years later in 2008, my dad got a job opening as a teacher in a sort of child prison. Formerly, we were rich, as my dad didn't have a job. But this time, this job had to be taken. The total amount of money per year wasn't great - only $120,000 a year. It was enough to at least get us some decent stuff, such as a Nintendo DS, some games, and road trips. Eventually, I cheered up at the fact that three years later, in 2012 I was in second grade at the age of only 8. I kept getting in trouble, but my dad now had to work the night shift. 11 PM - 7 AM job, only about $30-35,000 a year. It isn't terrific, but in 2012, it got us some electronics. It had been four years, so I had been longing for something. In 2013-14, we had trouble with immigration. Green cards were expiring, but a payday saved us. My parents had become US citizens. In 2014, I spited my brother so much, I refused to do the pledge of allegiance. But he had become a citizen. Just last week, my life turned upside down. A used car at only 33,000 miles which isn't bad, 2013 model, and a switch from Verizon to T-Mobile. All four of us but me got Nokia's, and today...I'm having a good life.

Thanks Ben Zimmerman The really good thing about it is it taught me (And I'm sure Boogie as well) to be resourceful and also to care about poverty as an issue. I'm mostly okay now, though struggling. However there are kids right now growing up as poor, or poorer, than I did and I'm motivated by my own experience to get to a place where I can help. Whatever success I eventually attain will be something I look forward to paying forward.

I grew up with a good amount of money, enough to get us through our days. That was up until i turned ten, my mother got very sick, so sick that the doctors didnt think she would make it out alive, this had a big impact on how we lived because we had no money coming in, it got so bad to the point where we had to live on the streets and beg for money for about 2-3 months and sometimes that money wasnt enough to get through the day. I'm 14 now, still having money problems, and still havent found a house/apartment, we've had to live off other people. I've found myself a small job helping my brother and we only make about 5-6k a year, and it's very hard, i'm just lucky enough that i have food on the table and clothes to wear. This video spoke to me and i thank you for putting this video up.

i grew up poor and i am still poor i can't move outta my moms house because of social anxiety. i finally got a job as a dishwasher but only work on the weekends. so i don't make much. i have been spending a lot of my money recently and i feel aweful about it. i remember when i actually had 700$ in my bank. now i barely have 200$. i'v learned to stop making those small little purchases that i don't NEED but only WANT!! i wanna reach 700$in my bank again and feel so safe knowing if anything happens to my mom. (only parent) i have money to help her and help myself. 700$ isn't a lot i know but if spent wisely i know i could really help my mom out with any troubles. it's just so tough saving cause there is so many things i want but i know i gotta hold back so i can save up. great vid boogie it was awesome..

Before working or making any mony at all you should focus on getting rid of your social anxiety. Ask your mom to pay a therapist, speak about it, search Inside what is it that you are insecure about, what are you afraid of. And that's going to be the first step. Once you get rid of it, you will see the freedom you have. To search for jobs, to meet amazing people that share interests with you, and they will teach you things and you'll be able to gain mony and be independant for your first time. But that social anxiety is the first thing to beat. And you can beat it, even if it doesn't seems like it. Belive me, i went trought it, and now i'm one of the most extroverted person you could find. I've done things, and entered into social situations even "normal people" or people without social anxiety can't, because they are shy. And i met great people and learned a lot trough them. So, stay strong and good luck.

+shogan flamemasta thanks for that. well actually me getting a weekend job has helped a LOT with my social anxiety. i'v met a lot of new people at my job and almost all of them are really cool to me. now i only get upset/scared or freaked out if i am alone in a unknown public place with strangers focusing on me about something. so in short now my anxiety is more about being lost in a unfamiliar place. i still worry though cause i can't completely function in society i'v done really well at making small talk, but i know i couldn't survive if i was forced to live alone. heck i only just learned how to pay my phone bill and i still need help doing simple things like that sometimes. thankfully though my weekend job has has helped me be more comfortable around strangers. now i have nightmares about waking up in a unfamiliar place alone with no friends or family in sight and i'm desperately trying to find my way home but i never do. it's gotten a little better though. i'm glad u cared enough to respond to my comment means a lot.

I got rid of all if my anxiety by changing my diet and exercising! Learn to make your own lacto-fermented foods. They have probiotics which make your brain happy! 😊 Just focus on that and getting omega 3 and bringing down omega 6. Saved my life! Oh and try juicing. And stick with it for a few weeks. Once i did this and started running i had to continue to run everyday or id go stir crazy!.. Think vegan but with some fish added in and homemade probiotics like pickles etc..

Don’t know why this popped up in my feed today but wow. Boogie has certainly changed, and so have the comments on his videos. FWIW I spent almost a decade living about half an hour from where he grew up. The situation I saw in Kentucky was remarkable similar to what Boogie describes in SW Virginia. People watching KZbin often don’t really grasp what true poverty looks like.

Subscribed to your channel because I feel this. My route was slightly different. I saved for almost a year, every penny I could, so that I could move in to a place on my own and buy my own furniture for the first time in my adult life. I had always had hand me down items or things purchased from a thrift store or second hand. The first night I laid in a bed that I paid for entirely myself, with furniture that matched and had that feeling of “I made it”...it was priceless. I was able to keep a little in savings, but now my goal is to keep putting as much as I can into savings so I can have that same feeling of security. Good on ya and even though you don’t know me, I’m proud of your work and determination.

My Family was middle class my Mum is a Nurse and my Dad supervised several shops for a multi-national company. I was very well treated and in Christmas and birthdays I was spoiled and up till i was about 10 i got a new game or toy every month. However, my parents brought me up to know the value of money. I couldn't just ask for things in fact I'd be embarrassed to ask for things and was always hugely grateful when I did get something. I had a great upbringing, my parents are awesome but there was no way they where going to let me be a spoiled little shit. I'm glad they brought me up to know the value of money. I'm now 18 years, studying computer science and earning 700 dollars a month, which isn't great but it's good enough.

Thanks for sharing your story. There are lots of reasons as to why money is hard to acquire, but I think the main issue today is that human labor is being slowly phased out. The technology and automation is getting better and better and is making human workers less and less relevant, and companies are naturally going to continue that trend because it reduces their expenses. The important question today is not how we can create more jobs, but how to translate that increased productivity into more prosperity for everyone.

I am really struggling with being broke , I had a good paying job , cars , dirt bike and lots of stuff and didn't save any money because I was too busy living day by day ,then I got involved in drugs which lead to depression and 3 suicide attempts then 9 month's in rehab ,I recovered from that then I returned to work and continued on with life then I suffered from seizures which stopped me from working which turned my life upside-down sending me broke because I never saved any money when times where good, now I'm going through a divorce because I can't provide an income which left my wife to pay all the bills and honestly I don't blame her she deserves better than me, I never really understood what it was actually like and now I know how soul crushing it actually is. I have been really depressed and even thought about suicide again just to escape from it all but after watching this video really inspired me and made me think "what the hell am I thinking " I know that I'm the only one who can change my situation so I am going to get help with my issues and I have you to thank for that, you don't know how much you have helped me, I have struggled with depression for 10 years now but I've tried my best not to show it because I considered it as a weakness but it's actually a illness that never really left me and watching this video really opened my eye's and help me understand that I have to get help. My family was broke (better term for it is poor) until I was about age 7. My parents then both had great jobs and made money but because they had been broke for roughtly the past 15 years they never spent their money like they were rich. My parents always made us earn everything we got and were never given anything. This was a good thing because after I grew up and became an adult it made me be able to deal with being broke a lot better. My wife was given everything her whole life, doesn't know how to handle money or know how to do without but since she married me she's been learning. I earn a decent wage now, enough to pay all the bills in our household, but I keep having to point out to my wife what we don't NEED. She has a problem telling the difference between what we NEED and what we WANT and that stems from how I was raised and how she was raised.

You know man this speaks to me. Im 22, grew up poor. Sure we had some luxuries but it was scraping by just to eat everyday. There were times where we all has to sleep huddled together in the living room by a small kerosene heater so we wouldn't get hypothermia. Since I was 16 I've been working to help my family pay thier bills. My dad then worsened things by buying so much shit he couldn't afford that if I moved out they'd be on the street. I've worked shitty jobs folding burritos, scrubbing dishes, kicking boxes around a warehouse, etc. I put off my education, have to walk 5-10 miles daily to work, survive on $1 hot dogs and Faygo for weeks at a time. Now I'm going to be able to move out and get my degree, but it took years of struggle and grief. Mind you I've made some mistakes, maybe spent money I didn't have for a good time here and there, but once I learned to budget, save, not spend on anything unnecessary, etc; I started getting better off. Life can be a drag. It can suck.

I have moved back into my Mom's house I don't know how many times.Worst time was when I got sick, got hospitalized in pulmonary intensive care, couldn't work, lost my driver's license, had to quit my job when the medical leave ran out, lost the house, lost the car and was too depressed to move into my Mom's. She just about dragged me there and let me bring my cats (which she did not want) but would not take 17 year old daughter. I left her there so she could finish school--her Dad wouldn't take her either. eventually police became involved but so how messed up I was and didn't charge me. eventually my daughter stayed with friends . . .for a few weeks. Then she stayed with for a few weeks . . . I ended up in the psych ward for popping 24 Advil in front of the admitting desk because I was tired of no one listening to me. . . . . All of this was in 2005-2006 and it still feels like yesterday.

While my childhood was OK financially, I couldn't help but notice that my parents spent a lot of leftover money to buy luxury items for themselves and never for us kids. I think people who start from the bottom and work through all the muck and hell to get somewhere are the people who in the end become the most well rounded. Mind you I intended no joke in that statement. This story is inspiring. I'm trying to make a KZbin career for myself and a couple others. I'm working very hard at it. I suffer from depression but I keep people around me happy and for what it's worth it keeps me okay. My back was destroyed in football so I can't endure any tedious physical work. So, most all jobs are out of the question. I have a pain called Osgood Schlatter disease, which is built up scar tissue below my knees, estimated to have gone away by age 15. I'm now 18 years old and there is no sign of retreat from it. I've suffered some emotional trauma. And I'm pretty much a broken man at this point. But I keep striving. This has turned into a passion of mine, I love posting KZbin content. I don't know how to hold viewers attention, I don't know how I can convince more people to like and subscribe to my videos, and yeah that's a little unfortunate, but it's also a big part of what separates big and small KZbin posters. So I feel pretty down a lot, But I keep pushing forward. Watching this, I've seen this video at least 10 times. It's one of the biggest motivational sources I have. Because how things were for you, remind me a lot of how things have been going for me. But you fought on, you pushed through and you're here today. And even though it isn't me I still feel overjoyed to see that someone did it, it's not too far gone, it's a reality that people can make it. I think this video was a really good thing to post and helps a lot more people then it may seem. Boogie I really appreciate the video. Keep up the terrific work.

22 here, just graduated school and I still love with my parents. I got student loans (about 6 or 7 of them) for the past 4 years I've been going to school full time and doing 25-30 hrs on the weekend working retail just to have enough money to eat and go out occasionally with my friends. Now that I've graduated I've had my hours cut to 8hrs a week minimum wage and it's been hard. Got just under $200 in the bank. But I've also been blessed, blessed with a car, my business degree, my family and friends and girlfriend. Lucky I had found a job finally and am starting next week. Life is hard I've learned that. But I agree, saving money is the best thing you can do. I've had to put $4000+ in my car to keep it running but I had no choice. Things do turn around if you keep at it and never give up.

You got that right... My rents moved away to a small town where I had no chance to grow personally. I stayed behind and lived off credit cards and student loans. I have a decent job now, make good money and saved, saved, saved, I only splurge on food and my girlfriend, I can't even remember the last time I bought something for myself. But, I do have savings, and the security, I can go into the mechanics with confidence to pay for my cars maintenance, I have confidence I can pay rent, or a mortgage payment for three months if I get laid off or lose my job. It's a good feeling.
