Hello Miranda and Donna, well what a lovely surprise and as a fan of Rumer Godden I am very happy to join in with the Comfort Book Club. As always you have brought us such delights - new books to add to the to be read pile and, of course, a delicious recipe to try as well. Thank you both so much and have a wonderful week, Teresa 🏡📚🌻

Hi Miranda and Donna. Delighted to hear about the book club. Your plan to combine the best of Tea Reads and the previous Book Club is just another indication of the thought and care you put into your content, including a genuine interest in making us viewers really feel like a part of your channel. I get 'comfort' from all the content you provide, so the book club is just a delightful bonus..the cherry on top of the blueberry cake, perhaps? 🤷🙈😂 Thanks for giving so much to the bookish (and baking 😂) community on YT and IG. 😊 🦊📚🤓

Oh, meant to add that Dean Street Press is great ( publisher of the Gibbons book). That looks like it might be part of its 'Furrowed Middlebrow' imprint? Either way, recommend that imprint - and Scott's blog of the same name - if you are not familiar with it. (Seemed from your previous video that DSP and FM might be new to you? That would surprise me given your reading tastes and prolific consumption of books, but we can't read everything I guess - more's the pity! 😂) I've read and enjoyed several books published by FM.

Thanks so much for your lovely comment! So glad you like the idea of the Book Club, combined with baking! Oh yes, I do know the Furrowed Middlebrow books with Dean Street Press very well - I've got dozens of them 😂 I'm sure they'll be featuring within the book club selections!! Have a lovely weekend xxx

I ordered the book for the book club and recently got it in the mail. Started reading it and kept wondering what a knife boy was and a knife room. I found this description. In the 19th century one of the most junior and worst-paid male servants in a large English household was the boot-boy (also called ‘the Boots’), whose job it was to clean and polish all the shoes and boots of the family, and usually the senior servants as well. There were a LOT of shoes to polish, since people in high society changed their clothes and footwear several times a day (morning dress, afternoon dress, dinner dress, etc) and expected their footwear to be polished after each wearing. It was a dirty job too, as the polish was often home-made and was a lot stickier than modern polish, requiring much more hard work to get a shine. Sharing the bottom rung of the pecking order was the knife-boy, whose job was to sharpen the kitchen and carving knives, and polish the table knives. This was before the days of stainless steel, so the blades of table knives went black and squalid-looking if they weren’t polished after every use; and the kitchen knives, being made of softer steel than today, needed sharpening every day. (Inns and hotels also employed boot-boys and knife-boys.) If the establishment wasn’t big enough to need a full-time servant for each job, it was logical to combine the two jobs and employ a boot-and-knife boy.

Hi Miranda and Donna. ‘The Comfort Bookclub’ sounds like a wonderful idea (as does the bookclub title). I belong to a local bookclub, which I enjoy attending. At the start of each year we are given a list of 12 book titles (one for each month). This is always helpful. I was wondering, would you be willing to give us a book list for the next few months (i.e. two or more books), so we can source and read the books in time. Thank you for considering this. I won’t be able to source and read your first bookclub read ‘The China Court’ by Rumer Godden in time due to a busy month ahead (with work + my own local bookclub book etc.), but I could start reading September’s book. Do you know the title of September’s bookclub title? If so, would you be willing to share this, to give me/the viewers time to source and finish reading the book in time. Thank you kindly for considering this suggestion. As always, I enjoyed your vlog, and the Blueberry cake looked delicious 🍰☕️
@MirandaMills3 жыл бұрын
I couldn't provide a list a whole year ahead, I'm afraid. I don't know September's choice yet as I'm still debating a few titles. I need to be able to fit this book club into my own planning schedule, or it can't happen at all, and I do like to have some flexibility so I can change my mind! However, I may announce titles for two months at a time, as I can see that is helpful. But I haven't firmly decided on September's title yet, so I'll announce it once I've made up my mind which shouldn't be too long from now xxx
@catherinepatterson47203 жыл бұрын
@@MirandaMills Thank you kindly Miranda for your reply. Yes, I understand and respect your need for flexibility with the bookclub reading list. Announcing 2 books ahead would be helpful. I look forward to September’s title announcement, and your next vlog 📚
