My friend had a Victor reader back when it was new, and it felt similar to this explanation. I had no idea how to begin to figure it out, though she said I could play with it, while I dog sat. By then I was getting something else to work for me reading on my desktop. Probably it was Kurzweil 1000. I somehow saved some file formats from the NLS to a card in my old cellular one phone with mobile speaks, reading with microsoft Mike. The software had a way of converting braille files to speech in mobile speaks. Now it's Voice Dream all the way, almost.

I feel like a lot of these devices are very similar to each other. The victor reader definitely doesn't have as many buttons and everything, and doesn't have as many capabilities. You can download things on it just form wifi and you don't need to use an sd card. :)

I love the device! You're right when you say nothing beats physical buttons. Controlling phones with it is also very handy, though I wish we had a Braille input mode using the keypad. This would make typing both on the device and connected devices much faster. The battery life is fantastic! I can get about 12 to 13 hours out of a single charge, and I have an extra battery. What do you think about the screen reader and Android app support? It definitely makes the device more capable, though I think the experience is more clunky compared to using the native software. I hope the device gets updated to Android 12 at some point, just like the BrailleSense. I like the fact you can install any app you want, though experimentation is required to figure out what will and won't work. I tried installing Google Play, and it failed miserably.

Definitely! I agree with that. I wonder if it will come in a future update. I love physical buttons. haha. But it can also be a hassle to have so many devices to keep up with. ItI guess everything has its pro's and con's.

It's a very cool device. I haven't found I want or need a dedicated book player for many years. Also I found downloading books or audio to an SD card and loading them a big hastle

Oh, this is the comment about the SD card, woops! You can just do it from the device for certain things like NLS.. once that come sout for the Sense player It should be updated at the end of the month or so.

Hey Carrie, great video is always. I know there is still an increasingly small segment of the accessibility market that wants simplicity and physical buttons. However, I also believe that due to financial constraints, and just general necessity of somewhat informity, this segment of the market is getting smaller by the day. Most people just can't afford 7 to 800 bucks for such a device. And more and more people already have pretty good if not. Excellent smartphones! Honestly, any modern smartphone can do pretty much the same thing. And, there are still a few that even still have 3.5 mm headphone jacks. God I love that! Hint hint Google and Apple and Samsung! Lol. But, I just don't believe there are that many people who want a fairly limited use device at such a high price. Keep up the great videos.

I agree and I think that's why the price of AT continues to creep up. There is still a market though and it's a global one. There are also other people who have other disabilities, not just blindness that can benefit from having physical buttons. I do agree with you though that a phone is super capable and is more than enough for a lot of people.

I enjoy using my phone, but when I use a device like this to rebook it is a game changer. I have far more options to how I read the book and mark it up. I can’t do all of that with my phone as easily. Yes, these devices are very expensive but as someone who loves books I just don’t think I could live without my victory stream.
