Smaller than I expected! I am Roman Catholic but, being a native English speaker, I really adore the simplicity and beauty of the 'native' English language ('Cranmerian') of Anglican prayers (I mean, come on, nothing could hit home harder than the 'we have offended against thy holy laws...there is no health in us'!). I also was looking for something that had the BCP Morning & Evening Prayer with all the other 'catholic' trappings of an office observance.

Fr. James+, thank you for this review and especially the spot on the lectionaries. My AOB arrived a couple weeks ago and as excited as I was when I ordered it, I’ve yet to find time to open the package. Almost ashamed to admit that. But after watching this, I’m motivated to open it up and perhaps makes the switch for several weeks to see how I like it. I suspect I’m going to really like the 1962 lectionary. BTW, I love the St. Augustine Prayer Book.

The reason you couldn’t find a breviary that also contained the Morning and Evening Prayers of the BCP is that Cranmer intended the BCP to be a shortened distillation of the Benedictine hours but for parish life instead of the monastery. He offered the spirituality of the monastery to the whole church.

Good preliminary review, but please start people on the 1928 and encourage them with the majesty of language. Also, if they want to sing at all, the 2019 is impossible. I'll forgo the rest of my critique of the 2019.

@@barelyprotestant5365 I meant as opposed to starting them with the 2019 ACNA BCP. We have used the BCP (1928/1662) for family and corporate worship for years but this AOB is going to take me a little while to figure out.
