The drum playing is totally appropriate for the groove. I might even say the Roots killed the rhythm track for this, allowing Booker T ample space to build the melody and slay it in the end. This is not Booker T and the MG's, it's Booker T and The Roots, so of course it's gonna sound different. Props to my mann, Bosco for capturing it as only he can. Best track I've heard from this record thus far!

Opinions are like a**holes, everybody's got one. The song, in itself, is no big hit or a great tune as far as mainstream would be concerned, but the mix, the performance, the entire feel of the song is perfect for what it is. Just sit back and listen. It's to enjoy--not criticize.

happy birthday Booker!!! Booker T. Jones (born November 12, 1944) is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, record producer and arranger, best known as the frontman of the band Booker T. & the M.G.'s. He has also worked in the studios with many well-known artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, earning him a Grammy Award for lifetime achievement.

The best rythm section that Booker could find since the Mg's!
@abkane12 жыл бұрын
How are people criticizing a song this good? This song is arranged perfectly to highlight booker t's organ. This is how jazz and soul used to be made to have one focal point and i think we could use more of this production method today.

OMG!! OMFG!! I'm in LOVE again! I stay away from EVER writing on youtube for online privacy reasons but I setup my whole damn KZbin account, gave away all my privacy rights forever to Google just for the option to publicly declare my love for this song and the woman this reminds me of! She is everything! Everything like this song, this smooth, sweet, jungle beat, seriously neat, divine, melt my innards, take over my heart tune, and a whole lot more, She is everything! Thank you Booker T and all on the band who I don't know about but will learn about asap! You guys .. WOW!

is it proof that my guitar playing is pretty good when i find all of these songs very easy to jam along? Why is it that when I can play along; I tend to think that their playing is sub par? Instead of thinking they are not too good; I should tell myself that perhaps they are very good and that I must be a pretty good musician to be able to play along with them. But for some reason, perhaps bc of my humble nature; i stead of putty myself of the pedestal with them; I tend to put them down bc if I can play just as well as they can; instead of thinking i am just as good; i think they are not as good as myself. Its time I start thinking of myself as a good musician too

I am ashamed to say that I had never heard of this version of this song until listening to the jazz station on Dish. Wow! I'm from Memphis, Tennessee and grew up listening to Booker T and the MG's and all the Memphis/Stax Sound my whole like. I'm ashamed. This is so darn good, that I've had to listen to it over, and over, and over some more again.

I hate to admit that I didn't even know Booker T was still alive. :(

My wife took piano lessons from the same teacher, Mrs. Amertha Cole as Booker T did as a child in Memphis. She taught Music at my Elementary School in Memphis. So I took Music from her but not an instrument...just singing and stuff and the basic rudiments of music theory. So Booker T, my wife and I share a kinship of sorts. :)

People think this is a remake of Lauryn HIll's cover of this song. It is NOT. If anything, this is a cover of what was first composed by guitarist Phil Upchurch. It was also covered by the late Donnie Hathaway -- and it was an early cover by Earth Wind & Fire.
