I’ve noticed something different with Canadian English and American/ my state English. I’ve noticed it with Ariel Bissett and Jenna Phipps too. Kayla said “I’m not done my closet” whereas I would say “I’m not done with my closet.” I love noticing different things like that! It makes my heart warm because it’s a piece of someone’s home you’re not even trying to convey.

Ashley Winstead seems like such a fascinating author to me because her books really don’t seem much alike? Her range seems broader than other authors who tend to stick to the same genre.
@julieannelovesbooks

The problem with her for me is that none of her books worked for me… so one could call it range… but I certainly wouldn’t 😂😂 of course that’s all subjective but reading your comment made me giggle a bit.

10:04 I haven’t read Our Missing Hearts, but I do believe that if the book is about censorship I definitely could see Ng making this a point too. When I was in school for my MLIS (Masters of Library and Information) I did my last project on censorship. A LOT of censorship is said to be for ‘protection’, but what it turns into is control and the fear of losing it with their own children. Books don’t make straight people gay in the same way that it doesn’t turn gay people magically heterosexual. And yet for the last 10 yrs the most challenged books in the US have been either about Black people and/or LGBTQ+ for a reason.

I just realized that even though I have favorite authors, I don't have any authors with three five star books, so either my bar for five stars is too high or yours is for a favorite author 🤣 I love this idea, though. It inspired me to revisit my favorite authors this year.

On the dry shampoo-hair tangent, I agree about the Batiste. I have very curly hair, and if I actually go to the trouble of straightening I want to keep it for a while. For inexpensive I like Herbal Essences, but my favourite is the Redken dry shampoo.

I love this idea of 3 5 stars = favourite author, Simon Savidge does it too. That feels right for me for people like Atwood, Sarah Waters etc. but not for people where I’ve read a trilogy/series. I can’t believe how expensive your books are, I looked up the price of the Celeste Ng here and it’s £10 brand new, less than half of what you paid. I know Australia is also super pricey for books, it makes me sad that that would put people off but your library service does seem better.

I waited to watch this video until I had read A Million to One because I wanted to form my own opinion. But ultimately I agree with you. It wasn’t a five star for me. I did also find it read young. I struggled to care about the budding relationship and wish it wasn’t there. I liked the heist part but it was difficult to get into and imagine all of these things actually happening. Adiba has another book coming out in the summer so maybe that will be a five star. I also have both of her previous books 5 stars.
