I try to make my shelves representative of me/my taste. I want the books there to be ones I read and want to re-read, or at least smile fondly at the memory of reading them every time I see them. Generally I only buy books: I've already loved from the library, sequels to series, preorders for authors I really trust (I know preorders are important to their sales/contracts) I'm really, really close to 0 remaining physical TBR! So I'm almost exactly opposite to how you do it, lol.

It's been a little while since I did a bookshelf tour and I've just acquired a 4th bookcase so I thought it was about time that I did an updated bookshelf tour! At what point does a collection become a home library, because I'm sure I have enough books for my entire area. My goal for 2025 is to get my entire book collection back onto 3 bookcases, but will I do it? Bookcases are the GERSBY from Ikea. If you would like a more indepth and chatty bookshelf tour, instead of a brief overview like this, please do let me know!

I love watching bookshelf tours. 😍 I try to get rid of books I didn’t enjoy to make room for books I really loved.

Thank you for doing this! Fun to see other people's shelves. I won't lie though, while my book cases are very chaotic because of lack of space, I do try to keep series/authors together because I like being able to find them together...but whatever works for you! I 100% keep books that I like and even some I don't like, though I'm trying to be better about that. I still have most of my childhood books, though they are in trunks in the basement. Over the last couple years, I have started purging doubles and ones I know I'm not going to read/don't enjoy, but it is a slow process. I am very much out of space so I should devote more time to going through and purging what I don't want, but...I like having a choice. I am very much a mood reader and if I'm in the mood for something, I don't want to have to wait to get it from the library/store. I don't want to rebuy books either. I just keep telling myself that I could be buying much, much worse things! lol!

If you enjoy what you read I would say to always keep it. I only started reading again this year after maybe 10 years of not reading. I had about 600 books that I just gave to charity and now massively regret. I had every single Terry Pratchett in hardback, special editions of the hobbit and LOTR, classic scifi from the 50's and 60's that I was given by a teacher. All gone and now it makes me sad.

I love watching bookshelf tours 🥰. For me, if I did not enjoy a book I get rid of it, and really the only books I've unhauled and regretted somewhat are the entire gossip girl series, which I read during high school. Now, if I liked a book but don't want it on my shelves I put it away to save for my little ones 😆.

I organise my TBR by most excited to read to least, and I put colour coded tabs on the spine to tell me if it is a standalone (blue), first in a series (red) second (yellow), third (orange) etc. Makes it easier to make a split second choice about starting something larger or something quick. I also use a pan lid stand to store the next 5 books I plan to read - finishing 1 and seeing 20% of the stand empty motivates me to pick up another. For your book sleeves, if you have the space, you could try an acrylic magazine holder on the side of your outer bookcase. I loved These Broken Stars - I don’t like jumpscares, but those books were consistently eerie, loved them.

This is such a brilliant organisation strategy!!! And the magazine holders is life changing advice omg 👏 I might actually rethink organising mine by excitement, might take me a few days to do though 🤣

I am such a book hoarder. For the most part I keep all my books. I have sold a few that I wasn't interested in reading at all or I started to read an hated but for the most part I keep them. I listen to the books and if I love them I will try to get a special edition of it if available. They are my bookshelf precious treasures. For 2025 I need to sort through all mu books and get rid of those that I have no interest in reading that I got through book subscriptions. They are taking up necessary space. One of my issues is if I love a specific book or series I will collect multiple copies of it from various places. I have 4 full sets of hardback Harry Potter books and a few not complete (Mina Lima and Jim Kay-gutted they will not be complete). I have the first editions of the Twilight books too that I will not sell. I am hoping to make some pretty shelves to store them all at some point and not mismatched ones that I have now. I don't have room for them all with what I have now. I watch those videos of people customizing theirs and adding things to them and paint them to all look like they were made in the walls. Pipe dream for now.

I organise my books by author. My bookshelves are also overflowing. I keep my favorite ones and have recently started giving away the ones I don't like. Gorgeous books you have.
@WandernessКүн бұрын
How do you go back and put new books in though, do you not find that it's a pain if there's no space?
@badfaith4uКүн бұрын
@@Wanderness I put books on top of books or rearranging the bookshelves. I also started buying eBooks and audiobooks. Giving away books also helps.

A fate inked in blood and Serpent & the wings of night were so disappointing to me and I had only heard good things about them. I hate when that happens so I just thought I’d let you know 😂 hopefully you like them though, I just hate when I only hear such high praise and then I don’t see the hype when reading the book
